Hobbs Cottage is nestled in a row of 19th century workers' cottages in the friendly village of Sticklepath, near South Zeal and Okehampton.
Located at the bottom of wooded Skaigh Valley in Dartmoor National Park, this period property is ideally located for adventure.
With its untamed beauty, Dartmoor is one of England's most rugged national parks where you can discover ancient stone circles, granite tors, wild moorland and encounter herds of wild ponies.
This very pet-friendly property is the perfect place for a family or a group of friends with two well-behaved dogs to explore the splendour of Dartmoor and its stunning surroundings; within walking distance of two pubs, a village shop and multitude of beautiful walking paths.
Enter through the front door to find a welcoming living room to your right complete with woodburning stove and Smart TV, ideal for relaxing after a fun filled day.
Continue through to the bright, traditional style kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook up your favourite dish and then serve to your guests at the dining table that seats four people.
If you don't want to cook there are several recommended options for dining-out within walking distance.
The cottage is equipped with a barbecue and outdoor dining set for those long, warm summer evenings.
Mucky pups can be comfortably cleaned up in the outdoor dog bath with hot and cold running water.
For cyclists, secure and spacious bicycle storage is available, accessed from your courtyard at the rear of the property.
When bedtime beckons, head upstairs where you’ll find two well-presented double bedrooms and a beautiful tiled bathroom in which you can refresh after the day’s activities.
If you can tear yourself away from relaxing at Hobbs Cottage, you can explore right from the doorstep, including the spectacular and wild moors and many National Trust locations.
Stop off after a long walk at one of the pubs or the tearoom and you’ll also find a well stocked village shop offering all the essentials.
Nearby attractions are Finch Foundry, Castle Drogo and Rosemoor RHS Gardens, and to really appreciate the spectacular beauty of nature, visit Cosdon Hill, Belstone Tor, go horse riding at Mary Tavy or cycle to Lydford Gorge.
Cyclists will find the Granite way and the Wray Valley cycle paths gentle and pleasing and there are plenty of more challenging routes out across the moors.

What guests are saying
Hobbs Cottage was beautiful, nestled in the lovely Devon countryside.
When we arrived we were greeted with some lovely touches. Homemade scones, orange juice, butter, milk and some beautiful bread, delicious. The cottage has everything you need to make it home from home. With plenty of walks from your doorstep. If you walk through the Finch Foundry opposite to the Taw River Pub, you can access the river walk. You also have Belstone where you can access walks on the Moor. The Tors Inn in Belstone also offers beautiful food, and you can sit outside enjoying the beautiful moors after a nice walk. If you fancy a nice hearty breakfast, we recommend the Farmer Luxtons, which is on the way to Okehampton. Unfortunately the local cafe in the village wasn't doing breakfast. But the shop has essentials and also sells newspapers, along with delicious cakes. The local Taw River Inn are very friendly and do lovely pub grub. The Devonshire inn is certainly worth a visit, very quirky, selling real ales and cider. Only open on certain days, but Anne the owner makes you welcome, along with the locals. Overall Sticklepath is lovely, just the base you need to explore.
Absolutely loved our stay for 3 nights.
The cottage is beautiful, fantastic welcome pack and facilities are great. Every effort is made to make you and your pet feel welcome. The only way we could mark it down is that the courtyard that we thought was enclosed for the dog at the back turned out to be a shared walk through for the builder working in the end cottage. This information is in the info book at cottage but not in the info when you book. Still loved it but maybe update booking info in case.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Hobbs Cottage in Sticklepath.
Communication from the owner was excellent throughout — every query was answered quickly, and the information provided before our trip was incredibly helpful and made everything feel effortless. The cottage itself is beautifully kept and very thoughtfully designed, especially for guests with dogs. It’s genuinely dog‑friendly, not just dog‑permitted, and you can tell a lot of care has gone into making sure four‑legged visitors feel as welcome as their humans. The beds were extremely comfortable — we had the best night’s sleep. The whole cottage feels cosy, peaceful, and well looked after. We arrived to a generous welcome pack including cream teas, bread, cheese, butter, milk, and orange juice, which was greatly appreciated after the journey. It’s those little touches that make a stay feel special. Sticklepath is a beautiful village surrounded by wonderful walks right from the doorstep. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and perfect for exploring Dartmoor. Great local pub serving great food with friendly locals who make you feel right at home. With its charm, comfort, and outstanding hospitality, we would not hesitate to recommend Hobbs Cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Devon.
