Dowrich West Wing Apartment is a characterful duplex apartment occupying the west wing of an impressive 15th-century listed property, set within the Devon countryside.

Rich in history and architectural interest, the apartment is well suited to couples seeking a distinctive and atmospheric base from which to explore the area. The wider property has a long and fascinating past, having been associated with the Lee family, who farmed the surrounding land from the 1920s, and earlier with the Dowrich family, whose name is recorded here between 1200 and 1717.

Influenced by the home of Horace Walpole, the building was later reimagined in a ‘Strawberry Hill’ Gothic style, complete with a castellated gatehouse that once served as a prison.

Today, original leaded windows, arched wooden doorways, and exposed stonework remain key features of this striking historic home.

Inside, guests are welcomed into a generous reception space before discovering the ground-floor living and dining room, where an inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove creates a focal point for evenings indoors.
