The Mews

The Mews was a perfect place to stay.

We chose it because of its location to the things we wanted to do. The property is of an exceptional high standard with everything you could possibly need for a break away. The beds were so very comfortable and the surrounding area so peaceful. Andy and Charmaine were fabulous hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them. They made us feel very welcome, the cream tea that was there for us was a lovely touch. We will definitely return to The Mews.

Charmaine and Andy are truly lovely people, nothing was too much trouble for them and they made sure we always had everythng we needed.

The property was so well equipped, they had thought of everything. Also the lttle touches on arrival that were there to welcome us was very much appreciated ie: milk in the fridge along with homemade scones, clotted cream and jam. The accommodation was so comfortable and very clean and it was such a peaceful place to stay. Would definitely recommend stayng at The Mews

I've been using Sykes Cottages several times a year for 15 years and this is the best yet.

Set in tranquil surroundings and furnished to an exceptionally high standard this really is a place to make you feel totally at home. I was using The Mews as a base for walks on the stunning Devon coastline and out into Dartmoor and coming back here after a long day trekking was sublime. Andy and Charmaine are the perfect hosts, always on hand if and when you need them. And the welcome pack of scones, jam, cream, eggs and mill was a lovely bonus. I look forward to a return visit

Andy & Charmaine (the owners) greeted us on arrival, just to introduce themselves and made us feel most welcome, telling us that the door was always open in case we needed anything.

The accommodation was spotless and comfortable, and lovely and warm. The scones, clotted cream and eggs were most acceptable. Central location, home from home, would return. Thank you both.

Stunning accommodation

Lovely accommodation/location, however, incorrectly advertised as dog friendly and owners expectations were not reasonable as to how a dog should be managed.

1-Told dog must be on the lead at all times, including in the private garden. Not as advertised and owner had clearly seen our dog off lead playing ball on first day and said nothing. Also picture in advert clearly show a dog off lead in the garden (owner was going to delete when we pointed this out to him!) 2- Sign in garden stating dog must not pee or Poop on grass. Not as advertised and as most intelligent dog owners know, it is not possible to stop a dog cocking his leg! 3- Private garden not secure. Luckily we had taken our own fence to make sure dog was secure. 4- Owners asked if dog could be kept inside when barking even though they had two very excitable dogs that yapped for hours on end when they were not present. 5- Incorrectly assumed our Doberman was dangerous and might jump the fence and cause harm to child playing next door. As responsible dog owners if we thought he was dangerous he would be on a lead and having spent all day off lead at Exmouth beach with 100s of adults/children and bought as a therapy dog, this was never the case. 6- Moaned that a few petals had been knocked off a plant by the dog. This pot was strategically placed in the middle of the lawn. No plant pots indicated in any pictures when advertised. 7- Wrongfully accused of dog not being on lead when down the lane. Dog was on long line or lead at all times around the farm as stipulated in the rules. In general, owners made us feel very uncomfortable and at no stage admitted that the advertising was not accurate. Unfortunately we left a day early. Extremely upsetting to all the family as it was the first opportunity in a long time we have had the chance to holiday together. Had the advert covered points 1-5 as above we would never have booked and gone elsewhere, where dogs could be dogs and the size/breed and our integrity as responsible parents/dog owners would not be questioned!

We had a lovely short break at the Mews.

Andy and Charmaine were excellent hosts making us feel welcome and ensuring we had everything we needed without being intrusive. The facilities were excellent throughout from the kitchen being well equipped to the beds being comfortable and the garden area was a pleasant place to sit in the evenings. We found everything to be clean and tidy too. The location was remote enough to be nice and peaceful but only a short drive to shops and amenities when needed. Also well positioned for coastal locations, Dartmoor, Exeter and other places of interest to visit. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again should we choose to revisit the area.

This lovely apartment cannot be faulted.

From the warm welcome we received from Andy and Charmaine,(perfect hosts) to the comfortable beds, sofas and the kitchen that had absolutely everything you could need. Liitle touches like the scones and jam, milk and eggs were lovely. Great views across peaceful countryside but close enough to shops and tourist spots. We hope to be back next time we visit Devon.

A comfortable central location for exploring South Devon with good access to A38, yet hidden away in a peaceful woodland clearing with beautiful gardens (which needs postcode input for accurate guidance on satnav).

The recent modernised loft conversion lacks no equipment for a very homely stay and positively encourages home cooking. Andy and Charmaine are charming and caring hosts, even providing fresh vegs from their garden. Thoroughly recommended.

What a stunning location - peaceful and idyllic with stunning views.

Located within working farm with plenty of animals to look at The hosts were extremely welcoming nothing was too much trouble. The property is very comfortable it was like home from home. There was nothing that had not been thought of Our dog had a lovely holiday too Plenty of welcoming touches which are gratefully accepted Very highly recommended

Beautiful and quiet location. The accommodation is emaculate and the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. Easy to get to Exeter and the coast so we'll located and lovely pub, The Claycutters Arms a 1 mile walk away. Would thoroughly recommend The Mews to anyone

This property is superbly located for accessing Dartmoor and the surrounding areas.

It is very close to the charming town of Bovey Tracey but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. The apartment is finished to a high standard, spotlessly clean and well-equipped. The hosts are incredibly kind and thoughtful; we felt very much at home. We will definitely return.

Warm and friendly welcome from Andy and Charmaine on the day of arrival, very helpful explaining everything about our accommodation and just to ask them if we needed anything, the location was exactly what we expected, peaceful and quiet.

The accommodation had everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay, the weather was lovely so didn't need to use the log burner, A few tips from Andy on locations to visit with our dog who appreciated the long walks, We would recommend this apartment for a lovely holiday, would like to thank Andy and Charmaine for a wonderful holiday

Lovely place to stay for a great family holiday.

Andy and Charmaine were excellent hosts, the homemade scones and fresh milk and eggs were a lovely surprise. The property was clean and excellently maintained and in the ideal location. The property itself is in beautiful surroundings but there is so much to do within easy reach. We'll definitely be back. Thank you!

Nothing was too much trouble. We arrived and it was beautiful, not only were we impressed with the cottage and its amenities, but we were welcomed with a tin full of scones, homemade jam in the fridge with milk and fresh eggs for breakfast. We had a superb 5 night stay.

The property was well appointed, comfortable and a real home from home. The hosts are excellant. Attentive, friendly, professional and quick to respond to any queries we had. The location is fab. It feels so rural and peaceful yet you are a short drive to a decent pub and nearby towns. We enjoyed our stay so much we have already booked a return visit. I would recommend this property to family and friends without question.

Warm welcome with smiles from the owners and lots of information and scones with clotted cream and jam. Owners are very helpful and friendly. The Mews is fully equipped and spotlessly clean, the photos don't do it justice, and it's perfect for exploring Dartmoor and nearby Torquay and beaches. My daughter loved feeding the lambs on site with farmer Geoff, who was brilliant with her. Cannot fault the mews and it's owners who went out of their way to make our little break memorable. Thank you so much. Can't recommend the mews highly enough.

A very warm welcome from Andy and Charmaine - home-baked scones (delicious), helpful tips on the apartment and local area and friendly chats through the week. The apartment was really comfortable and kitted out with all we needed. Great location surrounded by nature (lots of bird varieties, cute lambs and sheep and we even saw a couple of fawns on the lane early one morning!), close enough to Bovey for shops and activities and a short drive to Dartmoor for wilder exploration.

We stayed at the Mews while visiting family in the area for Christmas.

The annexe was very comfortable, immaculately clean and welcoming - and it was very well equipped. Andy and Charmaine went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay, including putting up Christmas decorations and very kindly baking us a Christmas cake! The Mews is close to local amenities and well situated for lots of great local walks which our two dogs absolutely loved. Thanks again for being so welcoming Andy and Charmaine! We hope to be back again soon.

It’s a beautiful accommodation, and very well equipped, and tastefully decorated. Very comfortable and relaxing, with fantastic views and centrally based to get around the surrounding areas with ease.

Charmaine and Andy were very friendly and welcoming and the homemade scones and jam was a lovely surprise. The freshly picked tomatoes and cucumber also went down a treat! Would definitely recommend.

The property was very clean and well furnished. The bed was comfortable and the views were nice. The owners lived next door and are friendly without being obtrusive. Milk and scones with cream and jam were in the apartment when we arrived. Fresh vegetables were given to us and was a wonderful gesture. We would be happy to return.

The property was very well maintained and was really comfortable.

The owners were very nice and scones were delicious. The downside for us was that the garden was not fully enclosed and not allowing the dogs to wee or poop in the garden was a bit unusual. We book cottages twice a year with gardens, for the ease of taking dogs. The latter element drives the rating given.

The couple that run this lovely property are lovely, very kind and helpful.

The property is spotlessly clean and done up to a very high standard! One of the best we’ve stayed in! When we want to explore Dartmoor again, we will be back! I cannot recommend this little idle more highly!

Superb accommodation in a tranquil location.

Owners very friendly but not intrusive. Welcome pack including scones and clotted cream went down well! Weather was awful ( a months rain in one day!) but always nice to get back to accommodation and relax. Thank you Charmaine and Andy for a lovely week.

Brilliant cottage, great location to access seaside towns and Dartmoor.

Hosts were fantastic and kind to leave us with treats on arrival and some delights from the garden through the week. Their gardens are immaculate and the duck pond next door was the highlight for our two year old. Would definitely stay here again.

A real home from home and the owners (who live next door) Andy and Charmaine are perfect hosts. We had a cream tea, fresh eggs and milk awaiting us in arrival and so an excellent start! The beds are comfy and the linen and towels are sumptuous. The kitchen has all you need including a full size fridge freezer and dishwasher. We will definitely be back.

The Mews is situated on a smallholding and surrounded by countryside.

It is set in a very tranquil setting. The apartment itself is exceptional and tastefully decorated with everything that you need. Charmaine and Andy are exceptional hosts and very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed the home made scones, clotted cream and jam and also the fresh eggs. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Mews. Thank you both.

! What a fantastic apartment, well equipped and spotlessly clean,this is down to the owners Andy and Charmaine . Beautiful cream tea on arrival and fresh eggs from their chickens. Located on a small holding and close to all of Devon's attractions.I highly recommend the Mews and will certainly be back.

We had a lovely week at the Mews.

All the facilities were first class, the bed and the sofas were very comfortable. Our hosts were available to help with questions and suggestions and there was a very helpful list of local amenities provided. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Mews to anyone visiting south Devon So full marks from Alison and Terry Jenner!!

My friend and I stayed in The Mews for 7 nights and I have to say we had a wonderful time!

I hope to stay here again. The house was clean and comfortable and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. The house is well equipped and there is a lovely fireplace which we used most nights. The house is a comfortable temperature anyway without using the fireplace. A very modern bathroom and a modern country house feel throughout the property. The house stands on at an excellent location, set back from the main roads and amongst a pleasant farm. Bovey Tracey is nearby. My friend and I visited Dartmoor National Park on every day of the trip. The views from the main bedroom window are lovely, looking over green space where wildlife can sometimes be seen. I hope to stay here again.

We had a great 5 days at The Mews and found it to be comfortable with everything we needed.

Andy and Charmaine are friendly and very hospitable but not intrusive. The apartment was warm with plenty of hot water and very quiet. Our visit was in mid October and being keen walkers we found the location handy for coast and moor. On a clear night the stars are amazing as this is a dark sky area.

Four adults and one dog enjoyed a very comfortable week in The Mews.

Andy and Charmaine were very friendly and welcoming but didn’t crowd us at all. The Mews is in a good location and feels remote enough to be peacefully quiet but only 15 mins away from Bovey Tracey and shops. Ducks and geese were our neighbours! Ideal for a recharging holiday. Nice and clean, very warm with plenty of hot water. The outside tap is a real bonus for washing muddy paws after walkies. Dog leg-stretching a little bit limited without walking down the lane but Andy mentioned plans to expand the fenced area which would give dog-guests more space to roam. He also offered to dog-sit if we wanted to go out, which although we didn’t need to take advantage of this time is still really appreciated. Lovely fresh scones (huge!), a pot of jam and clotted cream awaited us on arrival which started our Devon holiday in the best way. We look forward to our next visit!

We have been to many cottages over the past 15 years and would rate this as one of the best.

Very accommodating owners who were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A comfortable and well equipped Mews cottage in a superb location. Highly recommended.

Accommodation is excellent, spotless, best nights sleep in a long time in the comfortable beds. Location is lovely and not noisy despite being on a working farm.
