Valise

Lovely clean and well maintained property which we visited in a heatwave - a number of doors to open so could create a cool climate for our dog.

We spent more time at the property than we envisaged (due to high temperature) and was a comfortable place to hang out. The garden had sun most of the day. We took disposable bbqs. Location was was in easy car reach of a number of beaches. We mainly went to Instow as it has a dog friendly beach with couple of bars, restaurant and cafe. We ate at Instow Inn and Westleigh Inn a few times but couldn’t get a booking at the Boat House so recommend booking early. Tescos and Morrison located nearby for provisions.

We had a lovely stay at Valise it was one of the best we have stayed in for comfort and location, Garden was a very relaxing place with a hot tub bonus, Would stay there again when visiting Devon

Lovely ground floor appartment, it was very clean, bright, spacious and modern, in a quiet location at the end of a housing estate behind electric gates.

The owners live in the appartment above, if anything is needed. The appartment is located down a flight of outside steps as it is built on a hillside, so if mobility is an issue, the appqrtment might not be for you. The hot tub is to the side of the property and it is not overlooked by anyone. The appartment is a fairly short, downhill walk to Bideford Quay although it will be a fairly steep uphill walk back. The appartment is in an excellent position to walk or cycle the Tarka Trail (a disused almost flat railway line) Cycle hire is available close by. We would stay here again.

Valise is an absolutely beautiful apartment.

Spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The owners were very accommodating and let us park our car as we arrived early. We took the dog for a walk and it started raining and the owner rang and offered to pick us up. Although the owners live upstairs, you wouldn’t know as we never heard them. A short 10 minute walk into town with some lovely shops and cafes and a great base for exploring further afield. The Tarka trail is a lovely walk with a great little cafe at the station. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. Thank you for a lovely week!

Local area VERY hilly lots of steep roads, not for people with walking issues.

Great location for visiting areas around North Devon. The apartment was wonderful! Bigger than we expected and very comfortable. A smashing view, which was great from the hot tub, we loved watching the bats darting in and out of the trees at twilight whilst in the hot tub. Where the hot tub is situated was very private and having a gated entrance was very reassuring. The kitchen has everything you need and the large bathroom was a delight. Where the washing machine is situated has a drying rack and being a warm room our towels and swim wear were dry by the time we needed to use them again. The bed was really comfortable and we enjoyed very restful nights as a result. Plenty of storage space for clothes etc. Hairdryer and clothes steamer was provided. Just 2 very minor things for me, there is a dishwasher but no tablets were provided so we bought them. Also we were given one toilet roll which prompted us to buy more as that wouldn't have been sufficient for the length of our stay. As I said that was very minor as everything else was brilliant. Great communication with Val and Steph, prompt replies when I messaged asking about the waste disposal upon leaving. Highly recommended and will certainly stay again when visiting that part of the country next time.

From the moment we stepped into the property it was welcoming.

It is new and modern, well presented and lovely and warm. The hot tub was lovely on the cold evenings and the nearness of Instow and Bideford meant we could have car free days. Really enjoyed our week.

Very comfortable one bed apartment. Electric gates and space for parking a car. Friendly Steph showed us where to walk into town. Great location for exploring North Devon. The hot tub is such a lovely added extra. Much needed for relaxing after a day out. 5/5

Everything was lovely.

Steph was really helpful and was available if we needed him. On a personal note the bed was soft and I prefer a harder bed. The hot tub was brilliant the accomodation was clean and well thought out. It was very quiet and very safe. I would definitely go back if I stay in Bideford again

Fantastic owner very nice man spotless nice modern property high end fixtures and build.

The bed and bedding could do with an upgrade fine but doesn’t make the quality of the rest . Mattress bit tired. Frying pan needs replacing not flat . But would not hesitate.to stay again

A lovely warm, clean home, garden is well kept and have all you need to enjoy your time away.

Steph and Val, the hosts are lovely people. They live upstairs but leave you to enjoy your holiday. The hot tub is hot and clean and well maintained. (Lovely sat in there watching the squirrels) If I had to pick out anything it’s to add a potato masher to their utensils and a microwave bowl, very minor things. Close enough to Bideford to walk to the town if you don’t mind the hill back up. Would recommend ‘Mr Chips’ for fish & chips or ‘The Black Smiths Inn’ for Sunday Calvert. I’m sure there are others but we only ate out those days as we cooked at the house. We would definitely book again if staying that way

A perfect stay - everything was exactly as described, spotlessly clean, fantastic bathroom with a huge bath, lovely hot tub and has a secure well kept garden for the dog who loved squirrel watching.

The listing advertised the property as “self-contained,” but that was not the case.

The owners live directly above and even have a door leading into the rental space. Throughout our stay we could clearly hear them upstairs, which completely undermined the sense of privacy and made it feel far from self-contained. After a five-hour drive, we arrived on Sunday evening (after 6pm) to find no shower gel provided. Since all nearby shops and supermarkets had closed at 4pm, this was very inconvenient. The “welcome provisions” were also disappointing—just two tea bags, three Nespresso pods, and no sugar—for a multi-night stay, which felt thoughtless. Adding to this, the owner came by during our stay to check the chlorine levels in the hot tub, further disrupting the sense of privacy. When we raised these concerns with Sykes, their response was simply: “Why didn’t you speak to the owner?” As if it’s reasonable to tell the very person renting the property that what they’re providing doesn’t reflect the price we paid.

Secluded and quiet.

Clean, comfortable. and adequate. Can recommend it. Anyone with walking problem may find the flight of steps down to the flat not easy. A rail could be a useful addition. The host was very pleasant.and helpful.

Steph the owner was very helpful in explaining local attractions and routes. Lovely easy to use hot tub, a very spacious property for a 1 bedroom, lovely bath/shower room and very clean and tidy.

We loved the property.

Real top quality. The sofa was a little small for our personal liking. The bed also was a great size but the mattress wasn't too comfortable for us. We're used to stiffer mattresses. Although there is an electric gate at the top of the property a gated area may be nice so could let our dog roam. All of these are small things though as we did love it and property owner were incredibly friendly.

The property was amazing,it had everything you needed and more location excellent hot top excellent use in sun or rain definitely becoming again
