Miners Dry

Miners Dry is a truly great getaway from it all type of holiday .

Its location being detached was great for us with the two dogs . Once you have put on those walking boots you can trek all week and enjoy the wonderful surroundings and see very little fo the outside world . If your not a walker just sit in the garden and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst listening to the birds singing, the cottage has everything you need and could not fault it .

Regular visitors of foxes and night jars singing at night. Tavistock is a lovely town to visit for any supplies. Would recommend.

We found the property very nice and the bed was very comfortable there was walks in the woods just outside the door but very muddy when we were there

What a lovely stay at Miners Dry.

It's a tiny cottage in a very secluded peaceful area, comfortable, quiet, clean and well appointed for its size. The owner left us milk and cream tea which was very welcome and was excellent with comms. Great walks directly from the door but if you have dogs you will need to keep them on the lead as there are open mine shafts and vent shafts to be aware of. WiFi is very sketchy, as is the phone signal so do any trip planning before you go as complex websites won't load and don't expect to stream Netflix - take a book and enjoy the digital detox. A great place to stay at to explore the delights of the tamar valley.

Cosy and welcoming.

Love the fact you do not have to drive anywhere as you can walk out from the accomodation onto great trails. Excellent farm shop at The Copper Penny and Lamerton stores are great for stocking up.

Excellent for dog walking. It is also away from busy roads and is therefore very peaceful. The property is very well equipped and the owner is so nice and helpful. We have been here many times now and love coming here

It’s small but has everything needed for a relaxing break and the dogs absolutely loved it.

Our return visit & as per the original stay, it was faultless, this just about sums us up.

Secluded, no neighbours, open the door to some really fantastic walks, large garden, a bed that made you just fall asleep, cozy sitting room & facilities matching our needs. If you are looking for a comfortable escape this is it, look no further, cannot recommend it highly enough. The test is would you go back - the answer definitely yes!!

Miner's dry is situated in such a beautiful area if you like the quiet life.

There are lovely walks on your doorstep, and there are plenty of birds, rabbits and deer to be seen outside. The cottage itself has a comfy sofa and double bed. En-suite shower room and toilet. All kitchen equipment you need to cook meals on electric cooker. Tv has enough channels for you to find something to watch. Wi fi was pretty good considering where you are. Shops are 10 mins by car in Tavistock. Great cottage to relax and unwind in. Highly recommended.

Miners Dry is a pretty stone cottage situated in the middle of a very large garden on the edge of the tamar valley it’s quiet and very peaceful with amazing walks on its doorstep for humans and their dogs.

Plenty of Dartmoor walks and reservoirs to walk around but the busy town of Tavistock to spend a day browsing its many shops, statues, churches, river walks and much much more.

We had a great week at miners dry, peaceful and relaxing and away from fireworks which our dogs are reactive to.

We personally didn't find the sofa very comfy that could be just us. The bed was nice and comfy. There is a lot of black mould in all the corners of this property and this bothers my chest due to health issues if I had seen this in reviews we wouldn't of booked, maybe it's due to all the wet weather but it needs attention. Toilet seat was quite dusty and sticky at the back and Toilet brush holder was full of old dirty water. The garden isn't fully inclosed as we thought but our girls are not wonder's but worth mentioning. The TV sound has gone funny i think the speakers are gone. It's was a shame because this property is delightful and in a fantastic area We made the most of our time in miners dry and we did enjoy the area very much.

Great cottage, in perfect position for good walking from the door, yet close to good farm shop & pubs & only 3 miles from Tavistock for larger shops if needed.

The cottage was spotless as usual and the afternoon tea provided was delicious. We have been coming for years now as the cottage is our peaceful place. Beautiful location with walks from the doorstep. This year we couldn’t get subtitles on the television ( I need them to follow a program) and the owner changed the television within the hour

Lovely quiet location, clean, comfortable and well equipped.

Our Springer, Bella, loved the garden areas and meeting the occasional dog walkers going past. Most of whom gave us lots of advice about walks, places to visit etc. We did lots of walks directly from the door on the Tamar trails and there plenty of things to see and do in the area. Tavistock is a lovely lively market town and well worth a visit. We also had lots of lovely walks on Dartmoor!

Everything was good apart from its advertised as secluded private setting.

There is a track in front of the entrance and pot holers, horse riders, dog walkers, and walking groups all went past the cottage. I did pick this place due to the advertised location and so I was very disappointed. Everything else was fine as expected.

This is not a criticism but maybe an outside tap would be useful to wash off the dog and boots in bad weather.

We have no complaints at all, the property was idyllic, so peaceful the weather was beautiful. Would recommend to family and friends and definitely come in the future.

Excellent property that we have visited for several years now.

Well situated for Tamar Trails and for touring. Property is excellently maintained. Shower stopped working and Katherine arranged for a plumber to come out to us on a Sunday morning to solve the problem. Can't ask for better service than that.

It’s four years since we last stayed at Miners Dry and this latest visit was every bit as enjoyable as before.

It’s a unique setting providing access to walking trails right from the door and, essential for us, dog-friendly. It’s comfortable, cosy and, since we were here before, carefully refreshed. A definite 10 out of 10.

The property is lovely, it has everything that you need for a comfortable stay.

The location is perfect, at the very edge of the Tamar Trails. I had a wonderful dog walking holiday, friendly pubs, beautiful scenery and a comfortable cottage - what more could you ask for?

Lovely property set in and with direct access to the Tamar Trails.

It is clean well maintained and equipped. There is limited work service space for food preparation so I'd recommend simple meals, but at least the oven and hob did work! This was our second stay at Miners Dry and providing we can get away from the family the two of us will be back for a third.

Everything was just perfect. Thank you Katherine for all the added touches especially the cream tea, milk, eggs and welcoming flowers. We are looking forward to another visit.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location.

We absolutely loved our stay at Miners Dry, the setting is just perfect, we loved it so much asked the owner if we could extend our stay!

Sadly it was booked up. We met the owner, and her lovely children when they were out on their ponies. Our dog Lola also loved her stay, she kept hinting that we wanted to go into the woodland for a sniff, standing right by the big gate, but also loved the freedom of the spacious garden. We definitely want to come back.

This was our second stay at Miners Dry.

It is a lovely place to stay for a relaxing and peaceful time. The cottage is comfortable, cosy, secluded, private and perfectly located for beautiful walks from the doorstep. On our arrival, Katherine, the owner, had provided us with a lovely afternoon tea, milk and eggs etc. and lots of useful information about events in the area during our stay and which we were grateful for. We did not want to leave and will definitely be returning.

Miner’s Dry is a little gem of a retreat for two.

Situated in woodland with walks from the door. Inside is tastefully decorated and complete with all you need. As soon as we stepped inside we felt “at home” and the generous Welcome pack, consisting of full cream tea, fresh eggs, milk, biscuits and fresh flowers, was much appreciated - and enjoyed! We spent days at Princetown, Buckfast Abbey, Perranporth, Saltash and Tavistock, The evenings were spent cooking and cwtched up in front of the log-burner. We would thoroughly recommend Miner,s Dry and would love to return in the future. Thank you very much.

Need a space to hang wet coats, clothes that's not in bedroom.

Dogs loved the gardens lots of space. The walks in woods were brilliant. Unfortunate we had to cut holiday short for reasons at home,if we come back to the area we'd book again. The owners were friendly and couldn't help enough. Love the fact no phone signal in spots.

Our second visit and hopefully not the last.

Small but well laid out accommodation, with efficient night storage heating, wood burning stove, large comfortable bed and modern shower/w.c.. Fairly isolated location adjacent to heritage woods. Quiet and restful especially as Wi-Fi and mobile signals are weak.

Miners Dry is a wonderful place to stay.

Nestled in a beautiful forest, with wonderful walks,and very peaceful surroundings. The cottage is beautifully maintained and this just adds to a perfect holiday destination.

We found this to be a truly wonderful stay / location / accomodation, every step was without issue, from booking, directions, accomodation, facilities, this was without doubt a thoroughly relaxing break.

The location has wonderful walks right on the doorstep, stunning scenery and Miners Dry itself was fantastic, the dogs had the time of their lives, the welcoming pack was greatly appreciated by us all and the local information provided was a huge benefit and informative. We had a wonderful week at the idyllic Miners Dry.

We can’t recommend it enough. Secluded, peaceful and quiet, everything you need for a relaxing break. The setting was perfect with walks from the doorstep. Oh and the bed was the comfiest we have ever slept in!

Small property but well laid out with all necessary facilities and considerable character.

Good size comfortable bed, and modern shower/wc fittings. Ample parking. Beautiful position, fairly isolated with superb forest walks on doorstep. Wi-Fi very intermittent and mobile phone signal can be weak. Ideal for couple - with or without dog(s).

Katherine was very helpful and accommodating Refurb has made it very clean and comfortable, facilities are very good. Exactly as described in the listing - a 2 person cottage, with the remote location providing peace and quiet, with access to the local countryside with walks, and a comfortable garden

Gorgeous property in amazing setting.

Everything we asked for and more. Lovely welcome basket on arrival. Bed so comfy. Our dog loved it. Lots of lovely walks without having to go in the car but nowhere too far, we visited St Ives, Port Issac, Dartmoor, Looe and many more places so easy access to everywhere. Will definitely be coming again

A lovely, cosy cottage with walks ,onto the Tamar trails, straight from the door.

There were welcome goodies on arrival for both ourselves and our furry friends. A very quiet, get away from it all location, but when walking the trails met so many friendly, helpful people including the owners extended family.

With it's ideal siting next to the Tamar Trails, the property is excellent for holiday makers/dog owners.

The property is always clean and tidy when we arrive and the provision of eggs,milk, cream tea and dog biscuits is a very kind thought.

We had a lovely peaceful 4 days at Miners Dry.

Such a cosy private cottage, the bed was really comfortable, so many walks nearby and loved ‘Florence’s fresh eggs from the honesty box up the lane, thank you so much for the welcome pack of a Local paper, eggs, milk, cookies, delicious scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam, also doggie biscuits for our Springer Bertie, he ate them all! We really liked the fact that our dog could walk about the grounds freely without having to have a lead on him all the time, hopefully we’ll be back! Thank you

Lovely peaceful detached cottage in the middle of woods.

Just beyond the gate was the Tamar trail and lovely walks. Cottage had everything we needed for our stay. It was lovely and warm and the log fire was a bonus for a chilly night. We managed to sit outside on a few occasions with a glass of wine and watch the different birds on the feeder. Thanks also for the welcome pack of scones, jam and clotted cream. Also the decorated eggs and milk.

This is a lovely cottage with beautiful forest walks from the front door.

The walks and the cottage are of historical and industrial (mining) interest. It’s so peaceful and cosy. The log burner adds to this cosines.It’s a well equipped cottage.At night the stars are amazing to see as there’s no light pollution. The owner was very thoughtful with her starter pack, including cream tea, biscuits milk etc and helpful information

Have just returned from our first visit to Miners Dry, having spent a week there.

The property and location….wow!!! Was well equipped and really comfortable (if I could of taken the bed home I would of done!). Amazing walks in and around the Tamar Valley where you could, and we did, walk for miles, which pleased the dog! Had fantastic weather all week too which made it all in all a great holiday. We will definitely return.

Internet very poor and the cupboard door by the fridge annoying everything else was 5 Star will definitely recommend

For a late Autumn break Miners Dry was a perfect location, it also ticked the box that let us stay in an idyllic property away from it all.

We were comfortable, cosy and wonderfully quiet, with superb walks on the doorstep.

The miners dry was exactly what we look for in a holiday cottage, and we will be booking again.

Great situation with Tamar valley on your doorstep and comfortable cottage to come back to even when weather poor , which made the difference and break enjoyable .

This was our 3rd stay at the Miners Dry and it's as great as ever!

Lovely and isolated but not too far from civilisation. The added extras on arrival such as fresh flowers, scones, jam and milk were a welcome treat.The walkes from the cottage were quite and peaceful, we even saw deers right next to the cottage. The Miners Dry now has wifi, it like the mobile signal is patchy. If you really need wifi and a good mobile signal then maybe this holiday is not for you, but if you plan to leave all that behind then this is ideal. Definitely will be returning again and again.

What an amazing place this is.

Tucked away in a stunning location you could not ask for a more private retreat; it's no wonder so many people return time and time again. Good facilities in cottage and a lovely welcome pack of goodies and essentials on arrival.

If you want a get away ,pick you up break in the most beautiful quiet location this is the place.

Our only disappointment was only having two days to explore .

The accommodation is in a wonderful setting and quite secluded apart from the odd passing runner or dog walker and with the Tamar Trails on the doorstep it was a delight to take our dog for long walks.

In addition, it is a great base for trips out to places in Devon and Cornwall being very close to the border. The scones, clotted cream and jam provided at the accommodation were very welcome after our long journey from Leicester.

We very greatly enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again some time in the future.

We live in the South East and very much wanted an escape from all the busyness of the world. We were not disappointed. The cabin is perfect for a retreat but it is close enough to beautiful and interesting places to also have a holiday. In fact we took advantage of the trails that pass right past the cabin and took the long walk past the old mine workings and along the valley and down to the quay. These walks are mostly through pine plantations with occasional views of the beautiful valley and fascinating for anyone with even the most casual interest in Victorian industrial archaeology . Anyone wanting more open countryside can take a short drive to Dartmoor which is as open as you could ever get! We had a fabulous lunch in Tavistock and at every turn we were surprised by how quiet (in a good way) everything was. Even Totnes and the South Ham's coastline is only an hour away so if bad weather requires something different this place is perfectly situated. Catherine, our host, was helpful and friendly and when I foolishly left my laptop charger behind she quickly returned it without my having to ask or pay for the postage. She made the cabin inviting for our arrival with scones and cream, which once heated up in the oven created a problem by way of awakening a taste for these delicious treats. Most importantly she allowed us to bring our very elderly cat, a very important personage without whose company we wouldn't have been able to come. The cat appreciated the warmth of the cabin and also enjoyed sitting outside with us soaking up the sun. The cabin is situated by itself so there is total privacy, peace and solitude. The very occasional person walks past on one of the trails but this in no way spoilt the solitude of the place. The only sounds are the wind in the trees and bird song so all in all - for anyone seeking escape from noise and bustle - this location is a winner.

Very good accommodation, quite and romantic

There is no internet and mobile signal is very flaky

Miners dry was very cosy but not very comfortable we found the arm chair and settee extremely uncomfortable when we sat on them we found them virtually impossible to get out of we think another one should be in order thankyou.

Wonderful setting with a real feeling of isolation and peace yet still close to reality.

Lots of lovely walks through Forrest with good footpaths if you stick to them with streams flowing down through eventually leading in to the Tavistock river. The owners were so nice and friendly and the cottage was an absolutely amazing, comfortable well equipped property with lots of very thought goodies on arrival. The wood burning fire was a doddle and only needed to sit by and enjoy on evenings and electric heating was more than adequate. Will definitely go again.

Beautiful peaceful setting, we barely saw another soul.

The place was lovely and the bed was comfy. Great garden for the dog with loads of walks straight from the door. We hardly used the car. The real fire was a bonus and we didn't want to leave. Friendly welcome with a cream tea and fresh eggs and milk kindly left for us.

Perfect location for us.

Miners' Dry is comfortable, quiet and ideally located for us to enjoy our walks.

We absolutely loved the location, many walks from the door and a wealth of history around every corner.

We loved the total seclusion and the peace, but we still saw people whilst walking and spoke with the few dog walkers and runners who passed the garden. The cottage was quite petite but fulfilled our needs and the bed was very comfortable, the surroundings were exceptional and both humans and dogs enjoyed the whole experience.

We love going to Miner's Dry.

It was out 5th or 6th visit and we go back every year for a rest from life break. Rosie is a great owner and is lovely. On this visit we knew we would be late arriving so she put a heater on and set the wood burner so we could just light it when we arrived. Would thoroughly recommend visiting here. The location is amazing, the quiet is perfect and it's just for 2 adults (dogs welcome too - ours love it too)

I was able to book this holiday through Sykes very easily.

They contacted me when they said they would and the whole transaction was seamless. Miners Dry cottage is beautiful and the surrounding walks are amazing.only 12 minutes drive from Tavistock for all the shopping you need. Such a chilled out holiday! I’m looking forward to booking again.

We love Miners' Dry.

We try to get there at least once a year for the secluded and peaceful area. Our dogs love the trails. The owner is lovely and friendly and we love a homemade cream tea. Tavistock is not far away and a lovely town. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here

We loved how secluded the cottage was whilst still being close enough to civilisation should we need help.

The Tamar Trails are literally on the doorstep so there are great walks easily accessible but the rest of Devon and Cornwall are within driving distance too. The cottage had everything we needed for a week away with no frills or excesses. It was clean and cosy and the owner was lovely and welcoming. Normally when we go on holiday we charge around doing stuff but here we spent quite a lot of time just chilling and watching the wildlife from the table and chairs in the front garden, it was so quiet, relaxing and beautiful. We have already recommended it to a friend.

We enjoy the peacefulness of its locality and the nearness to the Tamar Trails which we enjoy walking with our dog. Also location is ideal for travelling to many tourist attractions.

Miners Dry is situated in superb walking country within the wooded Tamar Trials and the historical mining area.

Didn't need a car for first 4 days as walked from the cottage, also good for birds, deer, bats etc. Recommend it.
