Description

This unique Devon retreat is off the usual beaten track, with fabulous far reaching views across green meadows where horses peacefully graze, towards Dartmoor.

Situated adjacent to a small caravan site with only 5 pitches, and close to a golf course and fishing site, this cottage offers a quiet bolthole for walkers, cyclists and countryside lovers.

The cottage is detached, spacious and flooded with light.

There are also some superb reminders that this lodge was an art gallery in the past, with stunning local artwork available to purchase if you feel tempted.

The open plan living space with cosy woodburning stove looks out to the moors, as does the superking double bedroom which is sure to give you a comfy nights sleep.

After a day in the countryside, relax on the patio in your little private garden and fire up the barbecue for some local Devon produce.

Close by is the small town of Okehampton with plenty of amenities, including a heritage railway and the Granite Way cycle track & which has the added benefit of being able to hire good quality bikes at Sourton.

Walkers can enjoy the many fantastic routes nearby over Dartmoor National Park.

This is a wonderful escape from the hurly burly.

This is our second stay at the View, and equally pleasant as the first.

For us everything on one floor is so much easier for us both these days, and makes it so much more enjoyable. Everything you would need for your stay was there as it was well equipped. Ideally situated for both the town and access to the A30, whether you are travelling north or south. To avoid shopping this time around, we used home delivery and we were easily found. We were left a cream tea by the owner, which was a nice touch on arrival. We had a great time, thank you.

Extremely disappointed, stayed for 3 nights out of 7.

Firstly, no clear signage to locate the property. No answers or call back from owners, even though they requested a call 5 mins before we arrived to meet us with the key. Upon parking there is a massive pylon right outside the property. The trees and bushes are very overgrown and had to walk on the grass, not the path once inside the garden. As we walked around the corner the stench of urine was very strong. The property photographs on the website are not accurate or up to date. We eventually found the key. Inside the property, although spacious, it’s not clean. Cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The floors, corners and skirting boards were not clean. The bath had a film on the inside with cobwebs and dust present. The crockery and utensils were not clean. Cooker, slow cooker and air fryer had stains and was not clean. Thank goodness we bought ready meals for the holiday as I would not use the equipment provided. The duvet cover was a king size duvet in a superking cover. We used our own bedding. Towels felt like cardboard. The two good points was the enclosed garden, although the grass should have been cut prior to arrival. The other good point were the barn swallows and their chicks. Absolutely no excuse for lack of communication availability or standard of cleanliness. There are no excuses for lack of hygiene. I would give 1 ⭐ for this property and that is for the garden and views. Grim.

Lovely property with views of Dartmoor.

Quiet location and everything you need in the accommodation. The secure garden is great for dogs. A short drive into Okehampton for supplies. We had a very nice meal in the Taw River pub in Sticklepath and also at the Tors Belstone. All in all a great stay.
