Description

A tastefully furnished and well-equipped, mid-terrace holiday home, tucked away in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, a short stroll from the quayside in the lovely, historic Dorset town of Christchurch.

This charming cottage is an ideal base for families or friends with the Dorset coast within easy reach, as is the beautiful New Forest National Park.

Once you enter this lovely cottage you will find a pleasant and well-equipped kitchen/diner that has everything you need to create tasty treats for your group, and from here there’s a door leading out into a small, enclosed decked garden, which provides a great place to sit out with your morning coffee and plan the day’s activities.

Also on the ground floor is a cosy sitting room with electric fire, and there’s the convenience of a basin and WC on this floor too.

Upstairs, both bedrooms boast en-suite facilities, so there’s no queuing for the bathroom in the morning!

To the front there’s allocated parking so you can leave your car all day and wander the short distance into the town centre and treat yourselves to a meal and a tipple at any one of the numerous quality pubs and restaurants.

Enjoy exploring the old castle ruins and stunning priory, or just relax with an ice cream in the riverside park, where often bands play, and if you fancy a boat trip then take one of the regular ferries that gently chug their way up the River Stour.

Take the short Wick Ferry by the Captains Club Hotel and discover a lovely pathed walk through fields towards the famous Hengistbury Head, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which boasts stunning coastal views.

Within reach are the golden sands of Mudeford and all the attractions of the vibrant seaside resort of Bournemouth.

This really is a superb Dorset holiday home to be enjoyed all year round.

Our third visit to Captain’s Retreat.

The property is in such a convenient position for walking from the house. We used the conservatory as the weather was kind for October.Overall the level of cleanliness and the upgraded kitchen and bathrooms add so much to the property.

This was a return visit but first since the new kitchen and bathrooms, very good.

Plenty of cutlery etc, beds and chairs were very comfortable for us. New garden room gives an alternative sitting area. Parking just outside the door. Car parking available in town but also just a few minutes walk or bus ride from across the road. River just around the corner, children’s splash pool in summer, ferry to other side or river cruise. River is actively used, rowing club interesting to watch. Swans etc to feed .

We are repeat visitors and think this was our best stay ever.

Despite the heatwave, the house stayed reasonably cool (although we could only used the garden room in the evening!) and everything worked perfectly. We didn’t travel outside the Christchurch/Mudeford area, just walked and sat in the sun, ate nice food and pretended we didn’t have to go home. We have just booked another week in October, thank you so much.
