What guests are saying
We really loved Barton Lodge and will definitely re book.
We found it clean, tidy and well organised - the owners had put a lot of effort into providing everything we needed. Very comfortable bed! We are used to living in the countryside and were quite happy to see the badgers in the garden. We thought some negative comments left by a few previous holiday makers were completely unjustified! We just loved it!!! Can’t wait to go back!
Location is beautiful and very peaceful with lovely walks from the door and the convenience of Porlock just a short walk away.
Overall the house was very well equipped and comfortable, the beds were particularly comfy. The garden was a great space to relax in and we did see a badger on our last night, which was a treat. We loved the period features of the house. Minor niggles were that the sofas weren’t very comfy. Husband ended up bringing in a garden chair to relax in! We respect the rules regarding dogs eg no dogs in bedrooms. Previous occupants clearly did not, as all carpets, including bedrooms, had a liberal coating of dog hair that did not belong to our two. This also suggests the standard of cleaning leaves something to be desired This didn’t detract from our enjoyment of our stay in Barton Lodge.
My second time at Barton Lodge, unfortunately this time my first impression was of disappointment.
You drive up to an overgrown cottage, in fact you can barely see the cottage due to overgrown bushes and weeds. On arrival the cottage was clean however the bedrooms wasn’t, dusty wardrobes, spiders and a lot of cobwebs, we had to get the hoover out and hoover sides of the wardrobes and all the cobwebs, behind the headboards full of them and inside the wardrobe very dusty
