Brilliant, really thoughtful and friendly owners.

A comfortable flat with everything provided, if not in the flat itself then downstairs in the garage (eg freezer space, iron and ironing board).

An attractive garden with sitting space provided. Lovely hosts, friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive, who thoughtfully provide everything for a first breakfast ( cereal, tea and coffee, milk) plus the luxury extras of home-made bread and their own hen's eggs. The place feels safe too for a single woman traveller like myself.

We were welcomed by the owners when we arrived with amazing home cooked bread and eggs from their chickens.

Accommodation was very comfortable and it was nice to be able to have a relaxing garden to sit in.

Shephards Retreat is a real home from home.

Neutral decor, beautiful setting, comfortable, clean and everything that you need is provided. I loved my week here and even in the extreme red alert heatwave I was able to cope! There was a fan in the wardrobe and with the windows being dual aspect it was possible to get good ventilation during the cooler parts of the day. Would highly recommend and will definitely rebook if I come back to Somerset.

Well placed for visiting the area's many attractions.

The accommodation is beautifully maintained with views over the owner's lovely garden. Although small, everything is thoughtfully laid out and offered us everything we needed for a two week stay. We received clear directions to the property and a warm welcome when we arrived. The owners are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Definitely recommended.

I had a wonderful month-long stay at Shepard’s retreat.

I was in the area for a university placement and was lucky enough to book accommodation at shepards retreat. The owners are incredibly accommodating and friendly and the accommodation itself is lovely. The flat was beautifully decorated and had absolutely everything I could have needed during my stay - it was clear the owners had thought about every little detail including having things like tupperware , playing cards, a heated drying wrack and travel mugs at the property. The flat was very clean and exactly as described. I could park right outside the property. The area was lovely and quiet - perfect for a holiday or short stay. Couldn’t recommend Shepard’s Retreat enough! :)

The accommodation was very nice, and the hosts always helpful, and generous with their "welcome pack".

We found a few things not available in the kitchen - e.g. bread bin, container for biscuits, measuring jug, and small dishes for cooking for 2. Apart from that, it was all lovely.

From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed and relaxed. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, a true countryside escape. The place was spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our toddler absolutely loved it, especially getting the chance to feed the chickens with Phil, such a special experience for a little one. Phil was so lovely, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. He made us feel right at home and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We also really enjoyed the delicious fresh bread that Maureen made, such a thoughtful touch and absolutely lovely! Everything about Shephard’s Retreat felt special. It’s clear a lot of care and thought goes into making guests feel welcome. We made some lovely memories as a family and can’t wait to return again soon.

Shepherd's Retreat is set within a beautiful cottage garden, within a pretty village. The nearby small market town of Somerton is full of attractive stone buildings and has all the facilities you would need. There are lots of places to eat out. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Phil went out of his way to check access along a local footpath was still possible after the recent flooding in the area.There was fresh bread, eggs, butter, milk and all manner of goodies waiting for us on arrival. On first impression, an accommodation above a double garage, didn't know what to expect.

After gaining access, via the high tech keypad, what we found was quite amazing, a wonderfully set out accommodation and an incredible amount of thought has gone into this property. Such a comfortable apartment, it had everything we needed and we enjoyed the homemade bread and fresh eggs from the hens in the garden.

I heartily recommend visiting the local Fox and Hounds pub, delicious food at reasonable prices run by very friendly welcoming people. Thank you Maureen and Phil for a very enjoyable weekend in your lovely property, I especially liked looking out of the window in the morning at the beautiful garden and the view of your thatched cottage.

! FAB-U-LOUS!! A “home from home.” The hosts were very welcoming and the accommodation was beyond my expectations. The little extra touches were a lovely surprise. With local footpaths you can start your day with a walk with your dog (if you have one) before setting out for the day. An ideal location to explore Somerset. The peace and tranquility were ideal if you wanted to just chill in the garden. Thoroughly recommend and will be going back again

The grounds are fabulous and the owners both approachable, friendly and helpful. The provisions were a bonus,especially the gorgeous bread, even treats for our little dog. The location was brilliant for visiting other areas. We were lucky enough to have been there when the local gardens were open and this gave us a good excuse to investigate the village

Stunning holiday accommodation.

Equally adaptable to be used for remote working. Really comfortable, friendly owners and beautiful walks from the front door. We loved the remote location and the village is really pretty.

Phil and Maureen (and their 4-legged family) are fantastic hosts.

The flat is impeccably furnished with everything you could need, down to very detailed instructions on how to operate all the kitchen equipment. A welcome assortment of goodies upon arrival that included: fresh made bread, eggs, milk, and butter. Their homemade bread is a special treat. And if you brought a dog, there is even a little doggy bag with treats for your furry loved one

There was also a garage for a car or, in our case, our tandem. The owners were nearby to offer advice on places to visit, when asked. Conveniently situated for visiting Somerset places of interest, the small village provided easy access to walks and cycle rides.

So impressed with Sheperds Retreat Owners communicated well and have put so much thought into ensuring that your holiday is perfect Detailed information about using appliances, information about tourist attractions as well as local facilities including map how to get there Groceries for your arrival ensuring you can have something to eat and drink if not manage to bring food.

Facilities unbeliveable everything you will need to make it a home from home even including a picnic bag for your days out. Just so impressed into the thought and detail that has been put in to your stay at such an affordable price

Shepherds Retreat was the perfect base from which to explore the area, and there was lots to see and do within easy reach. All in all, a fantastic stay in a fantastic property - can't fault it.

Alles is aanwezig. We voelden ons direct welkom door de manier waarop Phil en Maureen ons ontvingen. In het huisje lag een welkomstbrief. Wij hoefden niet direct naar de supermarkt, er was eten in het huisje aanwezig zoals brood, cornflakes broodbeleg en drinken. Super een echte aanrader. Binnen een straal van 60 km. veel mooie bezienswaardigheden te bezoeken.

The accommodation was perfect for us and our dog. Everything you might need was there ready to use. Shephard's Retreat is located perfectly for exploring Somerset and with local walks for our dog right on the doorstep. We would definitely stay again and recommend to our friends.

Close enough to facilitate visiting all major towns and landmarks in the county and surrounding areas. Close proximity to a number of National Trust properties, so ideal for those wishing to enjoy historical buildings and gardens. We would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment

Lovely holiday apartment in quiet, rural hamlet.

We were welcomed with a nice basket of fresh bread, butter, cereal, eggs, and a pint of milk (and a few dog treats for our dog!) with little extras like tea and coffee also in the cupboards. Easy access to country walks on foot, plus lots of woods, country homes, and historical sites not far away by car. The apartment itself had very modern and clean furnishings and fittings (including a dishwasher). For anyone looking for a workcation, the wifi was strong enough for video calls, Netflix etc.

Quiet! Relaxing! Beautiful scenery! Nice places to walk to and not far to drive any where perfect. It ticked off every thing we wanted. The accommodation had every thing you needed which was great. We really appreciated the fresh baked bread, fresh eggs from their hens and all the other extras when we arrived. Charlton Mackrell is a great location and close to NT Lytes Cary and Montacute House. Most locations are only a few miles away and there are some great local pubs nearby.

We had a lovely suprise when we arrived after a long journey , freshly homemade bread , eggs ,tea , coffee milk.

The owner was in the garden and as we arrived he greated us and explained about the electronic gate and how to use the keypad to enter the property. The property itself was lovely and laid out really well , very comfortable and lots of books and guides to help you visit the local area. Everything you need was supplied from washing up liquid , dishwasher tablets and washing tablets for the washing machine. I would like to thank Maureen and Phil for making our stay at Shepherds Retreat a safe and relaxing stay and I look forward to returning in the future.

Very well equipped and clean cosy coach house accommodation. Lovely welcome goodies on arrival with lovely friendly hosts. We enjoyed the patio area and garden and loved meeting the dogs, cat and chickens.

The only reason I’ve said that it met and didn’t exceed expectations is because it did exactly what it said on the tin.

The holiday was exactly as the description suggested and that meant that it was an extremely enjoyable get away.

Second visit, so we knew what to expect.

............which was all very good. One concern only ; from time to time a very unpleasant smell was noticeable in the bathroom,bedroom ,and corridor that joins them. This was of internal origin ( ie definately not from outside the building). The smell was similar to that given off by blocked drains. We did NOT make the owners aware of this ; it did not seem appropriate to write it in the visitors book! Perhaps you ought to make them aware of this though. We intend to return for a third visit if smell can bev rectified.

The owners could not be more helpfull.

Lots of little treats for us and the dog. footpaths only meters away, which was ideal first thing in the morning, with a dog bin.

Had a lovely 4 nights at the shepherd's retreat very well equipped apartment and a very comfy bed.

There was a very nice welcome pack awaiting us of homemade bread (very nice) some butter, milk, eggs and some treats for the dog who enjoyed them very much. There are several walks on the doorstep across fields and open countryside, the owner was very helpful would highly recommend for a lovely break.

It didn’t disappoint. A lovely apartment full of nice touches like homemade bread, eggs, milk and biscuits for Cooper! Beautifully appointed and comfortable; we had a lovely weekend away.

Along with their beautiful dogs and a bengal cat they made us most welcome. Maureen bakes her own bread and left us a loaf, milk and lots of other little goodies. If we are this way again, we will most certainly book this cottage, it is very central for visiting all of the wonderful sites Somerset has to offer.

It was really nice to have fresh bread and milk in the kitchen on arrival, we really appreciated that little touch. Great location with some good walks near by and easy access to main roads to get further afield.

We really enjoyed our stay at Shephard’s Retreat.

The cottage had everything we needed and the owner's (Phil and Maureen) were very welcoming and friendly. The welcoming pack was highly appreciated including the homemade bread and eggs from the owner's chickens.The garden is beautiful and our dog enjoyed playing with the owners dog's. The use of the garage underneath the cottage was great for my husband to store his bike during our stay. We would highly recommend this cottage to others. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi could be a bit slow at times but we find that often happens on our cottage stays in rural areas.

Mr and Mrs Trevethan were very friendly and helpful and the food items that were in the cottage on our arrival were a very nice touch.

In addition, the maps, local area books and many leaflets for local places of interest were also welcome. The property was very well appointed and one of the best that we have stayed in over the years. A really nice area and one that we will probably return to in future years.

There was everything we could possibly need for our stay and the owners were very helpful and welcoming. The location was perfect for several national trust properties and other somerset attractions. We would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday to anybody wanting a luxurious rural retreat.

Lots of beautiful villages and towns within a short driving distance. Plenty of idyllic walks and in the evening the stars are heavenly. The Shepherds Retreat exceeded my expectations and I have already recommended it to family as a perfect place for couple, or like me, someone staying in their own.

We didn’t have to buy any bin liners or other daily provisions at all and the facilities are plentiful The resident dog is adorable,there is a cat too. I had a fabulous break at the very peaceful Shephard’s Retreat, hosts were brilliant and very welcoming.

This holiday rental is in the grounds of their beautiful home and exactly as it appears in the photos but I felt completely free to come and go as I pleased. They provided everything you could want and lots of local information, both in person and via leaflets and magazines. This is a beautiful part of the world with lots of do. One of my favourite things was to go on nice long walks in the late afternoon, such a good way to explore.

We were extremely satisfied by the property in particular with the quality of the equipment, all of which was first class.

To arrive with a freshly baked bread, fresh eggs, coffee and milk was great. The owners were very friendly and to have the option of using a garage was a satisfying new experience. It is a good location for getting to places in Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and beyond.
