Offering comforting furnishings throughout, this charming dwelling is an ideal choice for families or two couples looking to escape normality and explore the luscious landscapes of Somerset.

Discover the open-plan living space following a day of rambles, offering a cosy sitting area where you can kick back whilst the woodburner keeps you toasty.

Outside there is a patio and lawned garden to the side and rear of the cottage, making a great place for the kids to let off some steam or even some alfresco dining.

For the evenings away from the kitchen, venture into Wells where you can find a number of bars, cafés and restaurants, providing something for all budgets and palettes, as well as twice weekly farmers markets so that you can pick up local ingredients to enjoy at your self-catering cottage.

For a spot of history, visit Wells historic buildings, including the magnificent Wells Cathedral, the moated Bishop’s Palace and the 14th century Vicars Close, the oldest inhabited residential street in Europe.

Nearby are the fascinating Wookey Hole Caves, where you can explore the caves, while there are also plenty of educational sources on Dinosaurs, Minerals and Rocks, Paper Making and the Stone Age, fun for all the family!

Immerse yourself in local culture at the Somerset markets, indulging yourself with artisan food, antiques, vintage and retro wares, hand-made gifts and artworks.

We loved our stay in Lilac Cottage.

It’s a really beautiful and comfortable house with everything we needed - the welcome pack of eggs, bread, milk and butter was most welcome. The garden was perfect for our two terriers and gave them plenty of space to run around while being secure. We had a very peaceful stay and hope to visit again!

Lilac Cottage was a wonderful base, in a fantastic location, for our holiday to Somerset as it is so close to the attractions of Cheddar, Glastonbury Tor and Wells (which we walked to across the fields).

Jenny was a very attentive host throughout, adding little touches such as the selection of locally produced delicacies on our arrival. We cannot wait to visit again.

The property has been recently modernised to a very high standard.

The garden is well maintained and has wonderful views out to the West. The host was very responsive to any questions. It was so nice to arrive to find locally sourced sourdough bread, butter and cheese all from the nearby area. Also all the kitchen cupboard basics were available, along with a coffee machine. It’s about a half hour walk across the fields to the edge of Wells and Waitrose. We would thoroughly recommend this property.
