Magpie Cottage

David and Zena were very welcoming and kind hosts.

.They always had a smile when greeting us.

Warm welcome, made to feel at home.

The owners were wonderful.

Very helpful, friendly and quick to deal with a small issue that arose. The first time we’ve stayed in a two person property for a long time. We find them too small. This one wasn’t. Spacious and immaculate. Everything we needed and in a good location to relax and exploring the area. Really enjoyed it.

Wonderful stay, very helpful hosts David and Zena.

Has everything you need for a restful stay, Helpful information pack with places to visit and eat, Sunday lunch at the Old Red Lion wonderful. Going back hopefully at the end of the year. Even the flooded roads in Somerset didn't put a dampener on my stay. Ha Ha

Absolutely beautiful cottage, excellent surroundings , and wonderful hosts.

Loved the peaceful surroundings , occasional sheep bleating and watching the swallow fly in and out of the farm building . The cottage was very well equipped, didn't want for anything . The bed was so comfy , and had quality linen, but sofas a little worn and sagging so not good if you suffer from bad back . Cleanliness was OK, there were lots nick nacks about so easy dust catchers. Overall would definitely stay again. Even the drive to and from the cottage was exciting , narrow lanes and the chance of meeting a tractor or combineharvester. Had a chilled week and came home feeling very relaxed.

Feeling like we were sleeping in our own comfortable home yet in the beautiful surroundings of Stourhead.

Walking through the fields to King Alfred’s tower was great for us and our dog. Lovely pub nearby and friendly people. We love Somerset!

Lovely stay at wonderful comfy cottage.

David and Zena wonderful hosts.thank you for tea on arrival and chocolates and flowers in cottage, have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous cottage.

A very comfortable and well equipped cottage in the midst of beautiful countryside with lots of walks and a traditional pub (with genuinely home cooked food) nearby.

David and Zena are wonderful hosts who were very kind and made several helpful suggestions about places worthwhile visiting.

Beautiful cottage with wonderful hosts and everything you could need will be returning

Very comfortable and well equipped.

Peaceful stay and lovely warm welcome from owners

This is a lovely cottage, very comfortable and superbly equipped with everything you might need including quality bedding, crockery and kitchen utensils - greatly appreciated.

It was perfectly located for us to spend a week visiting various sights in Somerset. The owners are friendly, charming and could not be more helpful. Our only negative comment is that having to stand at one specific windowcill to use the owners wi-fi signal is frustrating, if either of us had been working it would have been very difficult. Many thanks for such a warm welcome to Magpie Cottage. Christine

A lovely cottage, beautifully equipped and very comfortable.

Everything you might need for a quiet break in the Somerset countryside….except, perhaps a phone signal ! As the only contact with outside world is the internet it was a little frustrating at times as we could only access Wi-Fi by sitting in front of living room window. The signal was lost as soon as you moved away. Perhaps a router booster might be an idea? However, it didn’t spoil our enjoyment.

Beautiful cottage in really lovely setting.

It is really well furnished and maintained. So lovely We loved it so much we returned this year!

Magpie cottage was a beautiful cottage set in a beautiful part of the country and the owners David and Zena were so welcoming and made us feel so at home definitely will be visiting again

Really enjoyed our holiday at magpie cottage.

Owners very helpful .They gave us a list of places to visit with post codes also pubs were they provided meals. National trust places to visit with postcodes.Hope to return next year.

Perfect cottage that had everything we needed.

The owners met us on arrival with refreshments and in gave us a comprehensive info sheet regarding the local area. Very comfortable cottage with all you need for a great stay!!!

Excellent property, well maintained, clean and very cosy in a lovely quiet and relaxing environment, very quiet but with lovely views.

Excellent should you have a dog, very large enclosure which is all fenced. Lovely owners who are there for you.

Lovely cottage and very friendly owners.

Good location of cottage, good walks from cottage, owners very friendly, highly recommended

We had a lovely week in Magpie Cottage, made very welcome by David and Zena who were on hand if you needed anything.

We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay - extremely warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage quiet and peaceful setting David and Zena made you very welcome, really enjoyed our week Thank you

what a fantastic place to stay and recharge your batteries ,spotlessly clean David and Zena were fantastic hosts always there if you needed them.

Would recommend Magpie cottage.

This was one of the best cottages that we have ever visited.

It was extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable. It was very quiet with lovely countryside views. The owners were friendly and gave us a lovely welcome. Being walkers we were pleased to have two local walks we could start from the cottage.

Beautiful location .

Friendly owners . Very clean and comfortable cottage quiet and peaceful . Will certainly stay again in the future .

We had a lovely week here, although weather very cold, have been to this cottage before, and cannot fault it in any way, the owners are very friendly and are there if you need them , we are happy to use again but will go in the summertime when it will be warmer we hope.

Lovely cottage, Very clean and well equipped.

One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. Set in a beautiful location . Our hosts David and Zena were very welcoming with lots of helpful information to enhance our stay. I would highly recommend Magpie Cottage. Tony Davies

A lovely cottage, very neat and clean and exactly what we were looking for.

The owners were really helpful and very friendly. A quiet and peaceful location. Perfect.

Beautiful cottage and gardens in the most idyllic setting.

Well equipped and to a high standard. The owners were friendly and offered advice or assistance but were not obtrusive. Wi-Fi was intermittent but the area is very rural. A car is essential if you want to get out and about.

Beautiful cottage in serene setting.

We loved staying there; it was so peaceful. Cottage really lovely. Hosts were very helpful

Absolutely superb, could not recommend enough, the owners, David and Lena, were most welcoming and the cottage itself is delightful.

We had an extremely restful time with visits out combined with time spent just relaxing at the cottage.

Hosts were lovely.

Cottage clean, comfortable Location beautiful, cottage close to all local attractions in a nice village setting!!!

Arrived tired and drained but the welcome "Cuppa" by Zena & David went down a treat.

One of the warmest welcomes we have had in 20 years of cottages. The cottage itself was spotless and a joy to stay in, surrounded by lovely gardens . Just a shame we had not found it when we were more "Youthful". Altogether an excellent week away for us "Northerners" Zena & David ...Thank you. Trish & Geoff [Haydock

Wonderful experience.

An idyllic place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet with quiet country lanes to walk or drive. David and Zena were wonderful hosts with a cup of tea on arrival and a box of chocolates at the cottage. Thank you

Beautiful location, wonderful host's well worth a visit .

We had the best week at Magpie Cottage surrounded by glorious countryside, especially the oak trees, unexpectedly good weather, just what you need to unwind and relax.

David and Zena were the best hosts, not forgetting Gillie the dog

We were extremely well hosted.

The cottage is very clean and comfortable. The location is idyllic - very peaceful and quite. We have not been hosted so warmly before. Lots of local knowledge from David & Zena. Very happy to recommend Magpie Cottage.

We had a lovely stay at Magpie Cottage!

Everything we needed was there, it’s in a beautiful quiet location and the owners are lovely and very helpful. We will return if visiting the area again. The only slight niggle for us was no phone signal inside and had to stand at the window to get WiFi, but hey we could get it when out and about if necessary so not too much of a problem.

Excellent cottage, clean, comfortable & quiet.

Only slight niggle, is the lack of a reliable WiFi.

Very welcoming hosts and a very comfortable, cosy stay

David and Zena were ideal hosts - very welcoming but not intrusive.

They provided us with lots of helpful information about the area and also left chocolates and flowers. We really enjoyed our stay - thank you.

This is a great cottage in a great location.

The owners are lovely people who make you feel more like friends than holiday makers. The single lanes to it can be a bit hair raising but worth it. Lots to see in the area and some goods pubs. Would definitely rent again.

Friendly helpful owner, gave info on local attractions and amenities, peaceful location

A beautiful cottage, comfortable and cosy with everything you could need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

David and Zena couldn't have been more welcoming and informative about the area. A really delightful couple. Definitely a place to return to.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage.

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable with everything we needed. The view up to King Alfred’s Tower was splendid. The owners were excellent hosts and so welcoming with a beer on our arrival on a very hot day. Flowers and chocolates were a very nice touch. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

a lovely cottage and Zena and David were very welcoming and helpful, wold highly recommend

Excellent hosts.

Excellent facilities.

Magpie Cottage is ideally placed in idyllic surroundings which guarantees a restful, peaceful holiday in the Somerset countryside.

Zeena and David are the perfect hosts, friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area and so are able to recommend places to suit each personal taste. All in all a perfect holiday, which I would not hesitate to recommend to those wanting to savour the delights of this area of Somerset, which has lots to offer the curious holiday maker.

We've been on many cottage holidays and this has been one of the best properties.

It's a wee gem of a cottage tucked away with a spacious garden and grounds to walk around in. The hosts, David and Zena were absolutely lovely.

Lovely break at magpie cottage.

Dave and Zena are brilliant hosts. Fantastic walking from the door step. Local pubs good too.

A lovely clean and comfortable cottage.

Very quiet and secluded and the hosts David and Zena were very pleasant and helpful. Only downside was the lack of mobile phone signal and very intermittent Wi-Fi signal.

We enjoyed our stay at Magpie Cottage.

The cottage was clean and the large bed very comfortable. As dog owners it was nice to be able to walk directly from the cottage on tarmac roads especially with the damp weather we experienced. The owners are very welcoming but not intrusive.

The cottage was in an ideal spot for walking relaxing and exploring the area.

The owners Dave and Zena were some of the most obliging, helpful, and friendly people you could wish to do business with. We had a delightful stay and would love to return as soon as possible. Thank you Sykes for a great time. Dave and Ann.

Very friendly welcome by David, Zena and Gilly.

Lots of local information provided. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location, very comfortable bed, some great walks in the area, very easy directions to follow to find the cottage supplied, would happily book another stay in the future.

David & Zena are a fantastic couple who make your stay great The cottage is very clean warm and homely If you are looking for peace and quiet then this is the place for you

Lovely rural retreat, lovely owners David and Zena on hand with useful information of the area Lovely warm well equipped Cottage, and a lovely comfy bed

Made us feel very welcome

Situated in a place of welcoming tranquility, Magpie Cottage is beautifully furnished with excellent and clean facilities, as well as the obvious Covid safe measures that had been undertaken to enable us to feel safe and comfortable during our stay.

The calm, peaceful and picturesque environment made it a perfect getaway. The hosts were extremely friendly, helpful and caring. We would strongly recommend this wonderful place.

Very comfy and clean cottage with plenty of space for a couple.

Big private garden area behind the cottage if weather is good. If you like beautiful rural retreats away from the hurly burly then this is perfect! Plenty of areas of interest a short drive away and the owners (very friendly and helpful) gave us lots of useful information including a handy local info sheet with names of good places for food and sightseeing etc. We stayed for a week, but left feeling we could have easily spent another week exploring and enjoying the local area. If you unfortunately needed to do any work while away be aware that wifi access is very limited inside the cottage - a blessing or a curse depending on your situation! Although the listing on Sykes was very accurate, and the information we received before the trip with regards key collection and directions etc was detailed and useful, we were not so happy with Syke customer service. It seems if you have any additional queries or issues ( for example our deposit took ages to go through and I didn't know if the booking was secure) they are impossible to contact by phone and don't replay to emails.

Perfect location for a quiet getaway.

Perfect owners who made us feel welcome

Fantastic situation, very peaceful.

Owners, next door, were extremely helpful and friendly, as were the dog and cat! A wonderful 'Away from it all' holiday.

SO PEACEFUL QUIET AND SECLUDED ZENA AND DAVE WERE SO HELPFULL

This cottage is ideal for those who like peace and tranquillity.

Lovely couple who run it. Internet is hit and miss due to location which personally i thought was magic. Plenty of places too travel too for days out. Lots of information supplied by the owners for attractions. Very clean accommodation and the added touch of fresh flowers etc on arrival. Highly recommended for those who love the country way of life. Many thanks to david zena gilly and shoo. Perfect hosts.

The cottage was a perfect break to refresh, quiet and comfortable.

David and Zena were welcoming and very friendly..

Lovely spacious cottage, a little dated (which didn't bother us) but immaculate, all covid rules and cleanliness applied.

Situated next to owners farmhouse in beautiful peaceful, country surroundings. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. They Invited us in to their house for a much needed coffee after our long journey. Central for Wells, Glastonbury, Longleat, Stourhead house is lovely. coast about hour away. A relaxing first break away since covid started.

Peaceful location and helpful hosts

This was the second time we've been to Magpie Cottage and the place was every bit as good as we remembered it from our first holiday there three years ago.

If you're looking for peace, seclusion and serenity with extremely friendly and helpful hosts, you couldn't do better than Magpie Cottage.

Well located for visiting a good number of small picturesque towns, villages and National Trust and English Heritage properties.

Bath and Bristol not too far away. Friendly and helpful owners live next door without being intrusive.

Great cottage.

Lovely hosts.

David and Zena were amazing hosts, very welcoming and friendly.

Set in a beautiful location, there's plenty of walking and things to see. The cottage is spotless, well equipped, and the bed super comfy. We'll definitely be back to explore all the places we couldn't get to.

David and Zena are wonderful owners who welcomed us and then allowed us to relax without any intrusion.

We will return !!

We had a fabulous time at Magpie Cottage!

David and Zena first welcomed our arrival with cups of tea in their farmhouse and suggestions of favourite places to visit. The cottage was absolutely delightful and spacious, from a beautifully appointed kitchen to an enormous and most comfortable bed! Flowers and chocolates were on the table for us to enjoy too. We made several excursions to Wells, Sherborne, Castle Cary and Frome finding farmers markets with lots of local produce and also an antiques and flea fair. Our spaniel Ruby loved the walks from the cottage and happily trotted up the path each day for her adventure. We were sorry to leave such a pretty place and hope to return again very soon.

We had a wonderful week at Magpie Cottage.

The cottage was very comfortable and clean. We had a warm welcome when we arrived and the added bonus of a box of chocolates waiting for us in the cottage. Zena and David were lovely hosts and gave us lots of information on the surrounding area and sights to visit. We had a relaxing time in the peace and quiet of the cottage. Just what we needed.

We did not want to leave the tranquility of this property set in the most beautiful area.

We definately would return.

Ideal for walking not far from Alfreds Tower and National Trust at Stourhead. Many historical towns villages and landmarks of ancient Britain and Wessex. The owners are a very lovely couple full of information about the locality and provide a list of places to visit and local eating places.

A very warm comfortable cottage.

Fabulous king size bed. Super kitchen too. We went over christmas and the cottage was decoratated too.

We enjoyed our holiday in this lovely cottage which was clean, comfortable and well equipped.

Welcoming owners gave us lots of local information and the flowers and chocolates in the cottage were a nice touch.

Of all the houses that we have rented , Magpie Cottage is without doubt the best.

Hard to finde anything to say except that it is really just a home from home. M and Mrs Dabinett could not have been more welcoming and helpful with tips about what to do, where to go and where to eat. All in all, excellent - sad to leave!

My wife, myself and our dog recently enjoyed a fantastic week at Magpie cottage .

On arrival we met the owners David and Zena who, over a cup of tea, were able to offer plenty of suggestions for places of interest in the local area.We found the cottage to be spotlessly clean and really well equipped, lots of interesting towns, villages and n.trust properties within easy driving distance. We look forward to a return visit.

Magpie Cottage was exceptionally clean, comfortable & equipped.

The people of Somerset are friendly and we will be definitely returning to the area in the near future.
