Description

Sheldon 0.5 miles.

A real rustic retreat!

An atmospheric log cabin in a valley on the edge of peaceful woodland, within the grounds of the owner's trout farm, half a mile from the picturesque hamlet of Sheldon, and 7 miles from Honiton.

Situated within the Blackdown Hills, and made from weathered pine logs, this unusual holiday home has an open plan living area, a woodburner in a large inglenook fireplace, and a covered veranda ideal for an evening drink and BBQ.

Walk the woods and country lanes in peace, explore the region's beautiful countryside and visitor attractions, or fish in the nearby lake and enjoy grilled trout for supper on the veranda, before being lulled to sleep by the sound of running water.

It's the perfect country escape.

I had read the previous reviews so knew what to expect.

The position of the cabin is lovely very remote and quiet exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately the accommodation needs a deep clean and a bit of TLC and it would be amazing. We took our own bedding (not just the covers) as I had read on previous reviews it was not very clean and im glad we did. There is very limited phone signal or Internet in the area but we enjoyed a few days without the phones. If your looking for relaxation, remote and rustic this is perfect. We would definitely go back again.

The accomodation was tidy enough but did need an intensive clean as pillows and mattresses were grubby.

However it was homely and comfortable but basic. The location was remote and the roads became narrower and narrower until it was a very steep dirt track with sleeping policeman in and no real pull ins so if you had met someone coming in the opposite direction pity help you. We had an automatic car that helped. However it was beautiful and grounds were well kept although be careful of the boulders and keep to the tracks. Had a good week but wished we had been aware of how remote the location actually was.

This COULD be a really lovely holiday property.

BUT it really needs a deep clean and some maintenance. The location is beautiful and the lakes and grounds well kept. However, the lodge however is not. It is in urgent need of a bit of maintenance, decoration and cleaning. Such a shame as this could be a fantastic holiday location for those seeking peace and quiet but the accommodation is just neglected and poorly looked after.
