The Coal House at Mendip View

This was our second visit to The Coal House, as before it was clean, comfortable with everything we needed.

Thank you for the goodies and beautiful fresh flowers. Wedmore itself is just a short walk away with everything you should need with plenty of places to eat. Only one downside was the building work taking place in the next field, it could be very noisy at times. We hope once this work is completed The Coal House is still a quiet and not overlooked holiday accommodation. We would visit again

This property was very clean and comfortable, the location was good, very quiet and peaceful, situated in a lovely village with a shop, deli and a couple of pubs.

It was a real boon to have ev charging available. It would have been nice to have an outdoor umbrella to use on the patio as there was nowhere to sit in the shade outside in the recent very hot weather.

The Coal House was clean and comfortable and was in a lovely quiet location within easy walking distance to various pubs and eateries in the village which also has a very good village shop selling local produce.

Unfortunately there was no shaver point in the en suite which would have been an advantage, However the overall experience was really good and I would not hesitate to make a return future stay.

We had a lovely stay at the coal house at Mendip view the only slight problem because of mobility issues the unadopted road leading to the village made it impossible to walk to the village at night, as a recommendation we feel this should be listed in the property summary.

This issue was not a spoiler we had a great holiday.

Coal House is a "little gem"!

! Tucked away in Somerset at the top of a lovely village with lovely views of the distant Mendip Hills..but close to coast & places of interest. Spotlessly clean beautifully presented & well equipped. The bed is comfy & shower is amazing. Easy walk down to the village which has a lovely selection of shops to browse & plenty of cafes & pubs to provide lush refreshments. The owners are very friendly & helpful Definitely a place we hope to revisit!

Excellent accommodation in a fantastic location.

Easy walking into a thriving village with very good amenities. Charming hosts. The number of returning visitors speaks volumes and we hope to join the " club". Middling mark for Sykes "recommendation" is purely because we don't do recommendations one way or the other.

Coal House is ideally situated - with easy access to the centre of Wedmore with its shops, cafes and pubs but also a great view north to the Mendip Hills.

The property was clean, comfortable and mostly well equipped and having access to a car charger was brilliant - we will definitely focus on booking accommodation with car chargers from now on. There are great walks direct from the property and Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury and the Somerset Levels nature reserves are only a short drive away.

It was an excellent cottage - no complaints at all Only comment (was mainly my mistake - I was focussed on the Coal House being our destination and overlooked the sign saying Mendip view.

The directions are from google maps 'your destination is on the right'. I would have found it more helpful to say 'take the first right and go past Mendip View where you'll find a parking space'

Another great holiday at the coal house.

We loved this little cottage.

So cosy to come back to after being out in December weather. We only turned up the heating on the first day, and even after turning it back down it stayed lovely and warm all week. It had everything you could possibly need and more. The owners left milk, tea and coffee, biscuits and a lovely bunch of flowers. A couple of minor issues arose but they were sorted very quickly and with no fuss and a friendly manner. Such a lovely village to stay in too. We would happily stay here again. Thankyou

This was our second visit to this cottage, so we knew what to expect.

.. and we weren't disappointed. Great location and really well appointed for a small cottage sleeping just the two of us. We are booked to go back again in May 2026.

Great accommodation, lovely setting and we will definitely book again.

Only very minor gripes, are a longer tail rail for wet towels, and a large shelf for make up and toiletries. Otherwise a home from home in a lovely village.

What a gem, when we arrived (easy place to find) we were delighted to find the accomodation at the Coal House was spotless, fresh and a nice welcome pack (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and milk.

Also a vase of fresh flowers.) which was a nice touch. Location is perfect for various locations and good walking routes abound. The allotments next door were full of produce and looking bountiful, a credit to the allotmenteers. To sum up...A perfect location.

Beautiful well equipped cottage in an excellent location for visiting places in Somerset.

Excellent very clean property in a quiet location but only 10 minutes walk into Wedmore which has some great places to eat and all the facilities you are likely to need.

Perfect for a couple and well placed for visiting all the sights of Somerset. Will definitely return.

A really lovely comfortable cottage.

We didn't want for anything. The bed and the sofa (although soft for us) were very comfortable. Welcoming eggs, milk cookies and lovey flowers were great. Beautiful area. We didn't travel more than 20 min. We visited Ham Wall RSPB , Avalon Marshes, Wells,Cheddar and Wookey Hole. Lots of walks provided in the welcome pack and we did 2. 3 lovely local pubs within easy walking distance and great local store. EV charging point a real bonus. Would definitely return, this is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in.

Booking The Coal House online with Sykes was straight forward.

The description of the property was honest. The cottage was really lovely, spotlessly clean, light, warm & deceptively spacious. The bed was comfortable & the shower was great. It is attached to the owner’s home, but we didn’t feel overlooked at all & enjoyed sitting out in the peaceful private gravel garden, partaking in friendly chat with our hosts & some of the allotment holders over the fence. The location of the property was perfect for days a out exploring , the beautiful City of Wells, being our highlight. We would highly recommend this holiday home. Thank you to the owners for sharing & your kind welcome.

A very well equipped and cosy cottage for two people.

Lovely views across to the Mendips and a very good location for all that the Somerset Levels has to offer. The village of Wedmore is lovely, with excellent facilities including a very good hotel restaurant.

We have just returned from a lovely weeks holiday in The Coal House.

We found the property clean and well equipped with everything you would need. The village of Wedmore is just a short walk from the cottage where you will find all you need, can highly recommend The Swan and The George for eating, the locals are very friendly and welcoming. We found lots to do and see in the area... even a trip to the coast is not too far. The only thing we would criticise about the property is that the sofas aren't very comfortable but other than that a very enjoyable holiday was had and we would return and recommend.

This was our second time at the coal house ( will return again ) as before on entry it smelt clean and fresh, the whole place was extremely clean and tidy, plenty of local information if you’re walkers and views across to the hills, if you like peace and quiet this is ideal.

The en-suite shower room is excellent and plenty big enough , the shower itself is excellent although the glass panel of by the door is difficult to see at night unless the light is used.thanks for a lovely peaceful week

Our 4th time staying in this property, it was as good as usual.

Clean and very comfortable. If I can make a suggestion the only thing that would improve it would be a small table in the lounge to put your cup/glass on.

The property was very comfortable and well equipped.

There was ample wardrobe space. The views of the surrounding hills were lovely. The cottage was perfectly situated for easy access into Wedmore and the local shops plus, of course, the three pubs.

A great location for visiting the area and we loved Wedmore, a lovely friendly village. Lots of places to eat out within walking distance. We enjoyed several cycle rides direct from the cottage.

The Coal House is the nicest property we have stayed in.

Although we only booked for 3 nights, due to other commitments, we could easily have stayed far longer. The photographs are accurate and the level of equipment and cleanliness are 100%. The kitchen is particularly well stocked with everything you would need. The bed was very comfortable, and the ensuite clean and spacious. The welcome pack was generous, including milk, eggs and flowers. The location is perfect for a relaxing get away and so quiet. It is close enough to Wedmore village and also other areas of interest. Excellent cosy cottage/annex well equipped and spotlessly clean having the essentials you need for a short break.

Served us a a central base very well for the surround tourism area and Wedmore has pubs/villages shops /eataries/church on your door step to explore. The views were beautiful from the coal house, even the allotments next door when the sun shines is nice to enjoy . Very peaceful stay, friendly and welcome pack was unexpected. We loved seeing the farm dog coming to say hello.. overall would stay here again for a short break and suited what facilities we needed for us. I guess as it’s for adult max two people be ideal with the Mendips in sight for a walking holiday. Great patio area and for washing your boots .. overall it’s a lovely property with great views and centrally based for exploring Somerset we managed to cram a lot into 4 full days because we were locally to travel out and about. We did Bath/Wookey Hole/Wells/Cheddar village/Cheddar Gorge/Burnham On Sea/Stream Train To Minehead/Wedmore itself twice for eating at night The George/The Swam so you can move around easily by car .. definitely stay here again or recommend the Coal House to stay in. I guess the only thing that could put some people off might be no washing machine/no smart TV.. internet can be very up and down .. but that didn’t bother us at all in the slightest and it was nice to switch off a little … thank-you Sharon & Dave

Excellent cottage with all facilities nearby.

Owners on hand and very helpful.

A beautiful cottage ideally situated for days out and local pubs and shops.

We’re not walkers but sure that it is fabulous for those that are. Left to our own devices throughout but knew that the owner was on hand if needed. Only down point, which is no reflection on the cottage or the owner, is the very close proximity to a very active allotment complex. Could be quite noisy at times. Overall, excellent cottage.

Ideally situated for visiting Wells and Glastonbury plus amenities including four pubs within a ten minute walk, including decent restaurant at the George.

The place was fabulous - just what we wanted.

The area was lovely and quiet and the facilities provided were excellent apart from the Wi-Fi which was rather disappointing. But this did not spoil our time at the Coal House and made up by the cooking facilities along with the best range of utensils etc that we have experienced in all the places we have stayed at. All in all superb.

We found the Coal House lovely, peaceful and well equipped.

We had a nice arriving hamper of Coffees , tea's, biscuits, eggs and milk. Sharon and David were pleasant, but unintrusive. The views from the cottage were amazing, the night visits of the bats was great to see. The cottage is situated in the middle of so many place's to visit. We also found a lot of very good eating establishments. The only reason we didn't give top marks for comfort, was because of the heat, obviously not the owners fault, but a fan would have made the cottage prefect and sleeping would have been easier. Having said that the weather was great for the holiday. Thank Sharon and David for a really enjoyable holiday and we hope to visit again one day.

A lovely, welcoming cottage thoughtfully presented throughout.

The views are amazing and we enjoyed watching the martins, swallows and bats from the patio area. The view across the valley was stunning, especially with the early morning hot air balloons floating past. Having the E-charge facility was a big draw for us and made our stay so much more straight forward.

A very well appointed and comfortable cottage and we throughly enjoyed or stay.

We'll be booking for 2024 very soon.

The Coal House is a cosy little cottage in a perfect location for all the places we love to visit - Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar & Weston.

The village of Wedmore has everything you could possibly need to enhance your stay - wonderful village store & a number of places to eat. Unfortunately a couple of things that marred our week were the uncomfortable sofas & the persistent awful smell in the bathroom.

This property is absolutely divine.

So comfortable and cozy. Excellent location to the local village and beautiful views. Well situated for visits to Glastonbury, Wells and Cheddar and plenty of local walks. Will definitely return for a repeat visit.

It feels bigger than the photos show. Ideal and very comfortable for two. Nicely appointed and well equipped kitchen. Ideal position with fantastic views of the mendips. Owner very helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.

This property is small but perfectly formed.

It has everything you need and the settee's and bed are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped., although the tap in the kitchen takes getting used to. This is the 2nd time we have stopped here and we will be coming again.

Second stay at the Coal House and as enjoyable as our first stay.

Shame we could only book for 4 nights, but late decision to have a break. Great place to stay and love the village of Wedmore.

We were very impressed with the property.

The bed was excellent and had good night sleeps, the shower was also excellent but we found the lounge sofas were not very comfortable. The facilities in the kitchen were very good and you had everything you needed and more.

Lovely place ideal for couples and in a perfect location for visiting places of interest.

Very comfortable and cosy. The only thing we noticed was a strong intermittent ‘drain’ smell in the bathroom possibly coming from the shower.

Very clean and modern and the location was superb. The village of Wedmore is very attractive and easily walked to from the cottage. Good mattress - walk-in shower wonderful. Very comprehensive welcome folder with maps and places to visit, etc. Nice to have a pint of milk in fridge on arrival as we always forget.

Beautiful views of The Mendips. Own parking space provided. The owners take great pride in keeping the cottage and garden in tip top condition.Although the cottage is attached to the owners property, it still feels private. It is very quiet and peaceful. I must add the owners are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Very happy with the place Ono one think that I think needs attention is a new mattress on the bed.

The kitchen was well equipped and we loved the under floor heating. The owner had left us some eggs and milk which was so kind.

It was a nice touch to find that some eggs and milk had been supplied.

The email that you sent regarding 'how to leave the cottage' was unable to be read until the day after we arrived home. The idea of a holiday is to leave stuff like having to deal with emails behind, so I suggest that you send this particular email before anybody leaves to go on holiday.

The owners have prepared and presented the Coal House extremely well.

It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There's a beautiful view from the kitchen and garden and it's a quick walk into the village for anything you need. We would happily recommend the Coal House to others.

Wedmore, the village, is lovely with lots of nice little shops and a lovely church.

A perfect cottage for two situated on edge of the village but within easy walking distance of local amenities including 3 pubs ( although one closed at present time).

The cottage was clean, light and airy, lovely views from the windows and contained everything we required.The rooms are a decent size and comfortable. Parking no problem. Appreciated the contact from Sharon before we arrived. Lovely welcome with tea/ coffee tray, biscuits, a basket of fresh eggs, pint of milk and fresh flowers. Several golf courses in the vicinity, we played Burham and Berrow and Weston Super Mare. Sadly didn't have time to play Wedmore. Visited Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and Weston Super Mare. Lots of walks available. Hoping to return as a lovely cottage in a perfect/ central location and we still have lots more to do, not forgetting the peace and quiet!! Thanks for a lovely stay.
