2)     Golf at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club

Don’t forget to pack your golf clubs as the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club boasts an 18-hole course, driving range and pitch and putt, offering a game for a range of abilities. On-site there’s a popular sports bar and restaurant, and keen golfers can enjoy the pro shop.

3)     Stroll around Chard Reservoir

Discover stunning scenes of nature, from birds to dragonflies, in the wildflower meadows, enchanting woodland and open water. With a children’s woodland play area, this is a lovely place to loose track of time as a family.

4)     Visit Forde Abbey and Gardens

Forde Abbey is one of the oldest inhabited houses in England, home to the famous Mortlake tapestries, woven by Raphael Cartoons, which can now be found in the V&A Museum. Uncover the rich history of the property, spanning 900 years, and it’s idyllic gardens linking to Cistercian monks.

The Abbey hold regular events, including seasonal activities such as pumpkin rolling, so be sure to see what’s on at the abbey before your visit.

5)     Walk along the Jurassic Coast

A 30 minute drive away, we highly recommend spending a day discovering the dramatic Jurassic Coast. Delve into the region’s fascinating history, stunning beaches and family-friendly attractions. There is so much to see and do, come rain or shine, from rib rides and fishing to a Dinosaur Fossil Museum, aquarium, a selection of beaches and stunning coast path.

The Cotley Inn

Situated just a 15 minute drive from the estate, The Cotley Inn is an award-winning gastro pub set in rolling countryside. Serving beautifully presented, delicious local produce on their seasonal menu, with the option to eat indoors or out, this fantastic inn is everything a British pub should be.

Cricket St Thomas Golf Club 

The nearby Cricket St Thomas Golf Club features a family-friendly bar and grill with a welcoming atmosphere, less than a mile from the estate, open daily until 3pm (6pm on Fridays). The restaurant here offers ample seating both indoors and out, and we highly recommend looking out over the green as you indulge in a refreshing beverage and quality food. There is also a sports bar, so you don’t have to worry about missing that anticipated match.

On Sundays, the club offer a delicious carvery from 12pm that’s well worth a visit for a laid-back family dining option.

Bath House 

Enjoy your much-loved British classics, as well as some Asian and European delicacies, made from local produce. The restaurant is located a 10 minute drive away from Swandown Lodges, and is open for dinners, and lunches too Thursday to Saturday. Book online on the Bath House website.
