Townend Barn Holiday Cottage

In the centre of Lydford, Dartmoor, quietly tucked away within the owner’s garden sits a detached cottage. Surrounded by a mixture of flower beds, apples trees, vegetable gardens and wild areas.

The property

Mr and Mrs Skeaping have let the property for over 8 years. In this time they have met a wide range of wonderful guests. Many of whom, have enjoyed their stay so much they have become friends and repeated guests.

Renovating the old grain store, Mr and Mrs Skeaping were able to revitalise the historic space and turn it into a wonderful and unique experience for guests. They were able to maintain the open, one room layout whilst keeping the interior understated and tasteful.

Designed with peace and comfort in mind, the cottage encompasses inspirational art from paintings to statues. At the heart of the cottage is a stunning Steinway grand piano, made in 1890. This is an item of true splendour that has been played by professionals and aspiring pianists alike. This exquisite piano is well maintained and guests are encouraged to play as much as they like!

The beauty of the surrounding rolling hillside provides a picture postcard backdrop to the tune you are already tapping away to.

The area of Lydford

Lydford is one of the most important historic/archaeological villages in England due to its association with the tin industry and ransacked by the Vikings in 997.

The area is also well known for its entry to the ‘Granite Way’ cycle path that runs along the North of Dartmoor, showcasing the granite moorland landscape. Borrow some bicycles from Mr and Mrs Skeaping to explore the 11 mile track to really find yourself.

Guests can expect to relish in the country air, enjoy the peace and tranquility, stare in wonder at the magnificent star littered skies and listen to the beautiful bird song.

This country escape is a great getaway from the hurly burly of the modern world.
