What’s on In Devon This Spring
When: 13th – 14th March and 23rd – 27th September 2026
Where: Budleigh Salterton
One for literary enthusiasts, the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival hosts talks from top names such as Mary Portas, Dr Gavin Francis, and Simon Hart. You can also attend readings, have conversations with other literary enthusiasts and writers, and listen to a spot of live music.

Where: Hartland Abbey, near Bideford
What better way to welcome Spring than with a day at Hartland Abbey?
The annual event allows visitors to explore the home’s large collection of daffodils, many of which were planted 150 years ago! Whether you fancy a stroll through the woodlands, Walled Gardens, or down to the beach, there are a variety of trails to follow. There is even a wooden summerhouse with a log fire, perfect for chillier days!

Where: Powderham Castle, Exeter
A lifelong gardener and host of a weekly gardening show on BBC Radio Devon, Toby Buckland is the founder of this lovely Devon festival. The event takes place over two days at the historic and imposing Powderham Castle, located just a few miles from Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.
The festival hosts expert gardening talks and practical workshops. There’s an array of nurseries exhibiting here, as well as arts and crafts stalls to peruse.

Where: Brixham Town Centre
Ever fancied dressing up as a pirate for the day? Well, you can during this festival in Devon. The Brixham Pirate Festival is exactly what you’d expect it to be. Watch re-enactments, meet some local pirates, and step aboard a real pirate ship! The Atyla is the only wooden ship of its kind that uses traditional sailing techniques with some engine assistance.

Where: Barbican, Plymouth
If you missed the Brixham Pirate Festival and still want the chance to dress up with the family, then consider Plymouth Pirates Weekend. This annual event in South Devon is sure to put a smile on your face. Expect to see lots of family-friendly activities, a wealth of pirates, and so much more, dotted along Plymouth’s beautiful waterfront.

Where: Westpoint, Exeter, Devon
Devon’s largest agricultural show, the Devon County Show is a great 3-day outdoor event. Exceptional livestock, stunning horses, and canine superstars will be in attendance. Expect entertainment in all forms throughout the day.

Dart Music Festival continues to be one of Devon’s most popular events. With over 100 acts across 15 venues, their ethos is ‘Music for All’. Enjoy live music in Devon in amazing venues like an ancient fort, old castle walls, a fisherman’s church, a Victorian Bandstand and open-air street performances.
When: 22nd to 25th May 2026
Where: Sidmouth Parish Church, Blackmore Gardens
Promising 4 days of exceptional live music, the Sidmouth International Jazz & Blues Festival returns with a stellar lineup. This Devon festival hosts a range of musical genres, including jazz, blues, roots, soul, Latin, funk and much more.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay close to the festival action, Puffins is a great choice! This Edwardian cottage sleeps 4 and is a stone’s throw away from Sidmouth’s bustling town centre. The English Riviera Airshow is an annual event held in Paignton, showcasing breathtaking aerial displays by world-class teams, including the iconic Red Arrows. This family-friendly spectacle combines thrilling performances with ground attractions, making it a major highlight in the South Devon events calendar.

Where: Plymouth Hoe, Plymouth
This superb weekend event in Devon offers a myriad of charities the chance to showcase the amazing work they have done throughout the year. It’s also a way to celebrate the veterans and those currently in the Armed Forces.
Catch the awesome parades, live music and a host of activities taking place throughout the day, as well as a free evening concert.

Where: Clovelly
Next up in our ‘What’s on in Devon’ guide is the Maritime Festival in Clovelly. This event promises a fun-filled day and raises money for an amazing cause, supporting 1.5 million crewmen and women. It is perfect for families, with a wealth of entertainment and activities for the little ones to enjoy.
Watch or get involved in the exciting Clovelly Cup Yacht rally, which sees a variety of yachts set off to race across the bay. What’s more, there’s maritime-themed fancy dress, street entertainment from Marvellous Eventures, and some yummy food stalls too.

Where: Blackborough, Devon
Altitude Festival plays host to an eclectic mix of DJs from across the UK. It strives to represent both emerging artists and well-established legends. All in a little field in Devon. Since 1955, Sidmouth Folk Festival has proudly championed traditional music, dance, and song creating an inclusive community that celebrates folk arts in all their forms. Set in the stunning seaside town of Sidmouth, this week-long festival offers an exciting mix of top-tier concerts, emerging talent, dance displays, workshops, and more.

Where: Plymouth Hoe, Plymouth
Another exciting event on the What’s on in Devon calendar is the British Firework Championships. Taking place in Plymouth, this dazzling two-night event showcases several displays from top pyrotechnic companies, all competing to be crowned the ultimate champion.
Attracting thousands of spectators every year, it’s a summer highlight, combining vibrant fireworks with a stunning waterfront backdrop.

Where: Escot Park, Devon
The Levellers’ popular family-friendly festival has several stages, with music spanning from folk rock to techno. There’s a seated theatre tent and art installations, as well as a children’s area for your little ones, whilst the adults can grab a real ale from the bar.

The Dartmouth Royal Regatta is a prestigious annual event featuring exciting sailing races and rowing competitions on the water, and a wealth of community fun off the water! Set against the stunning River Dart, this family-friendly celebration offers something for everyone, with live entertainment, delicious food, fireworks, and plenty of activities for all ages. Don’t forget to watch or participate in the ice cream eating competition for kids – and the ‘Spot the Oddity’ competition has remained a family fav for generations.

Where: Fermoy’s Garden Centre, Newton Abbott
Abbfest is a food, beer and music festival, showcasing over 200 locally produced beers and ciders. It’s run completely by volunteers and the proceeds support a collection of local charities.
