Why book a cottage in Topsham?
Topsham’s maritime history can be seen all over the town with a number of Dutch style houses dating back to the 17th century when the port was an important part of the cotton trade. One of these houses is inhabited by the Topsham Museum where visitors can learn about the town’s history and enjoy the furnished period rooms of the original merchant’s house.
The area has lots of good walking routes, including a 3.5 mile circular trail around Topsham. Keep an eye out as you walk past the estuary mudflats as they are home to a wide variety of water birds, such as avocets and dunlins. A ferry service exists that will take you across the River Exe if you want to explore the other side of the river.
Topsham is renowned for its food, with a good choice of pubs and fine dining establishments on offer. The Galley Restaurant is the perfect choice for seafood lovers - the menu specialises in fish and the restaurant offers wonderful views across the estuary,
