Why book a cottage in Clovelly?
Step back in time when you visit the historic fishing village of Clovelly. This unspoilt slice of Devon has been in private ownership since Elizabeth times which has helped to preserve its charm and character. The village starts high in the cliffs and descends down cobbled streets until you reach the idyllic fishing port. Fishing is still an important industry and the area is famous for its local lobster and crab.
When you visit Clovelly you will notice how quiet and peaceful it is. The village is completely pedestrianised, save for donkeys and sledges. Donkeys used to pull the sledges to transport goods through the town but they now just enjoy their retirement!
Learn all about the history of the village at Fisherman’s Cottage and see how a Clovelly fisherman and his family would have lived in the 1930’s. You can also visit the Kingsley Museum, a house dedicated to the Victorian writer, Charles Kinglsey, author of The Water Babies and Westward Ho!
