Why book a cottage in Newton Abbot?
Newton Abbot is an historic market town on the River Teign. As a holiday destination it has something for everyone; with a mix of history, culture and open countryside on offer.
The town has had a market for over 750 years and visitors today can find an Indoor Market operating Mondays to Saturdays, an Outdoor Market open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a Produce Market, selling local food and drink on a Friday. The high street has a good choice of national and independent shops and there are a variety of excellent pubs and restaurants in the area.
Newton Abbot is a great base for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. Close to the Devon coast, the South West Coast Path runs for miles in either direction and has stunning views out to sea. The Templer Way is an 18 mile route from Teignmouth to Haytor in Dartmoor. Choose to cross moorland up to the granite tor in Dartmoor or follow the path down to the coast. Decoy Country Park is a Green Flag country park and nature reserve that is home to many different species of wildlife.
Newton Abbot Racecourse is one of the country’s leading jump courses and holds a number of race meetings throughout the year.

On the east bank at the of the River Teign is the village of Shaldon. This largely unspoilt village has two beautiful sandy beaches where you can spend a day relaxing. On the opposite bank over the river is the large seaside town of Teignmouth. It is somewhat of a foodie hot spot, with a number of great restaurants serving locally caught seafood.
Whether you want to walk the Dartmoor moorland, go wildlife spotting, or enjoy the local food and drink, a cottage in Newton Abbot provides an ideal base.
