“Where do I start , looks good for the outside when we arrived but the reality of the property was way different , it's basically a garage conversion & poorly done In my opinion .”

So first impression it was quite dirty when we walked in immediately the curtains on the door didn't fit the space so had to clip them together to get some privacy from outside & they where see through, the skylight's where full of cobwebs & dead spiders, the worktop where the hob was covered in crumbs, The sink in the living space was blocked draining very slowly. Then we had the wood burner beautiful but we where left only enough kindling to last for about a hour, no logs when your paying ...

Then we had the wood burner beautiful but we where left only enough kindling to last for about a hour, no logs when your paying 600 plus a few logs wouldn't have hurt Onto the bedroom. After a 10 hour drive & a afternoon out on Lizard point we was ready for a shower & bed , on climbing into bed after negotiating my way around the food of the bed where there's minimal space I got into bed only to discover that the bedding smelled of body odour it was absolutely disgusting & I couldn't get in bed until we had stripped the bedding & washed & dried which took hours , there was no extra bedding just two pillow cases under the bed I found , the shower was pointless you had to stand in the corner just to get wet . The tiny courtyard out front was ok until it rained & the pavers where loose & water logged , tbh very disappointed with the accommodation I've stayed in shepherds huts that have used space better & had better layed out We refused to let this spoil ourfist holiday in Cornwall It's the most beautiful area we spent minimum time in the room so we made a amazing holiday from what could have been a disaster , very disappointed & way to expensive for what you get , Rocket cart house is central that's about the only good thing about the place , very cheaply put together & very dirty , we probably left it cleaner as we left.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am genuinely sorry to hear that you didn't have a perfect stay. Mproperty is described as a “tiny granite cottage” with “minimal storage,” and I believe this accurately reflects its character. Built in 1860, the cottage is a well equipped, comfortable and rustic retreat, which my husband and I spent many months renovating and refurbishing to sympathetically reflect its heritage, its history and the area it stands in. As many previous reviews reflect, guests have enjoyed their time here. Following your detailed feedback,my housekeeper sincerely apologises if there were crumbs on the hob, she assured me that the property was thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival. As you may appreciate, cobwebs can appear overnight, particularly in older buildings, but your comments have been noted and my housekeeper will take extra care during changeovers. Regarding the laundry, both myself and my housekeeper respectfully disagree with your observations. The linen is laundered using Non Bio Fairy 3-in-1 tablets, which are low-fragrance and suitable for sensitive skin. After your review I inspected the mattress, protectors, duvet, pillows and cover and they were clean and free from any unpleasant odours. My housekeeper lives locally and her details (including mine ) are in my welcome folder-had you called her she would have been more than happy to have sorted any issues you had within minutes. Regarding the wood burner, there are plenty of spare logs outside in the store, again this is mentioned in the black welcome folder. I am glad you enjoyed the fire, Rocket Cart House is advertised as providing a 'starter pack' which allows enough wood for the 1st nights stay (as most properties do), but I do supply some additional logs free of charge for my guests as we are in a fairly remote area. My housekeeper and I take every care in preparing Rocket Cart House for letting, leaving all guests a welcome gift (which we hope you enjoyed) and providing maps, books, information, fast broadband, a smart TV and board games for our guests to enjoy. On going we have reviewed our Housekeeping schedule and feel confident that Rocket Cart House will provide a comfortable and welcoming stay ongoing. Property Owner

“Suggestions rather than criticism about property: For a small open plan kitchen it was okay to cook but lack of a microwave was noticeable as only having two electric induction hob elements means juggling between cooking/keeping warm.”

Oven is a bit too complex to work easily /quickly even when you find instructions. There is a concerning very slow drain on the kitchen sink which makes washing up a balance. It is not feasible or logical to have to constantly use the dishwasher with only two people /limited plates and bowls. The drains in toilet and shower make a concerning back flow /gurgling water sound and action. when the toilet flushes. The shower also drains very slowly. The above did not impact our stay as such but are suggestions to improve future use. Overall the property was compact and snug for two people. It’s in a good setting. Thank you.

We discussed the points you mentioned with the owner who confirms that they had the drains riffed a the property but it turned out the problem was beyond the property's boundary. South West Water were then contacted and have confirmed that the issue does in fact lie with them and they will be attending within the week to sort it! The owner was very grateful for you bringing this to their attention. The oven is in fact a combi oven, therefore a microwave & oven are both available. “Great loction, short walk to the village, The mexican restaurant has great food and drinks pool table and darts , it's about 20 minutes walk to point we're a beautiful Cafe were get creamtea and jam stones, amazing walks , chocolate factory about 10 minutes drive away.”

The cottage is small perfect for a single person or a couple , very cosy and romantic, the kitchen was fully equipped if you like to cook what we do most evening after walking all day. Very clean. The shower water pressure was low and small shower but that was the only downfall wasn't a big deal as cottage is small, We love it very much and we would be back.

“The property is small, so it would best suit a couple who travel without lots of baggage.”

That said, it is really well thought out in terms of how the space has been used. The sofa and the bed were very comfortable. The location is perfect for quick and easy access to the coastal path, but also just a couple of minutes walk into Lizard. The lane on which it is located is very quiet. We loved our week staying here and have marked it as a favourite if we want to stay at Lizard again.

A very well thought out little place. We were initially a bit concerned regarding a review we read about the mattress being uncomfortable! We were happy we slept soundly. It’s a very small place but it is mentioned in the information. We were prepared to practically live out of our suitcase. ❤️❤️

“Too small to be comfortable.”

The description of "courtyard garden" for us was a stretch to far. It truth it is just the entrance to the property, and with the gate closed no view at all. The bedroom was so small there was not even room to store clothing apart from on the wals. Bathroom tiny with no window and extractor did nor work. Curtains very poor. Water stained and needed changing. On a positive short walk to coast path & village, but not worth the money, & owner very helpful in getting the cooker to work Soory to be negative, but these are our thoughts

“Hi, a wonderful cottage and location.”

Loved it, small and bijou and beautifully styled. But. It was let down by the mattress which was like sleeping on a bag of dirty laundry. Lumpy, thin and uncomfortable to such an extent that as a side sleeper my arms would wake me up due to lack of blood flow every few hours. Spent 4 nights on the couch away from my wife as I needed to sleep. Such a shame, it’s a lovely place but a holiday with no sleep kind of ruined it for us. A simple fix, drop £800 on a new mattress and it would be 5 Stars.

Thank you for your feedback we are pleased you loved the cottage and its wonderful location. We can assure you the Kingsize mattress is less than 2 years old, and is an award winning, 23cm deep memory foam 'Emma' mattress. It is checked weekly and has been thoroughly double checked by our housekeeper and myself : neither of us could find any faults such as you describe-it remains a comfortable mattress. It is kept scrupulously clean with 2 mattress protectors one of which is also padded. Our Housekeeper would have been more than happy to help if you had called her with your concerns. Property Owner

“The property was well thought out, and fittings and fixtures were to a high standard.”

It was smaller than we envisage, but perfectly adequate. The bed and sofa were a little low for my hubby , but very comfortable and we slept like babies. Great location with a 4 minute walk to the coastal path.

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome. Unfortunately, there is not enough room to store an ironing board but we will consider the addition of an iron. All our saucepans have lids and there is a hoover and broom for guests to use. I will look into purchasing an oven mitt and a non slip mat. Property Owner

“Rocket Cart House is a truly unique property in a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Lizard peninsula.”

The property seemed more spacious than we imagined. The attention to detail, tasteful decor and clever use of space made this a very comfortable holiday properly. Our only minor suggestion is that it would be nice to have the option to open the roof lights on warmer days. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and may well return!

“With great thanks to the housekeeper Jane who went out of her way to make sure I had a hairdryer to use, providing her own for my use!”

I am also very interested to know about the water heating system at the property, being electric and very efficient, I need to upgrade my own home system and this would seem to be perfect. If you can get in touch I would really appreciate it. This week in the Landewednack/Lizard was perfect, just as I had hoped it would be. Rocket Cart House really is a lovely bolt hole and we didn't want to leave the area, will certainly be back!

“The house looks very similar to the photos, if not a little smaller.”

Space is utilised well throughout and the place was fully functional - hot showers and a very comfortable bed! The location is amazing, feels very remote but still within walking distance to restaurants etc. The only improvement was that although the kitchen/facilities and bed was clean, the sofa and floor felt very dusty/covered in bits which could have done with a Hoover. Perfect stay!

In order to give guests a more luxurious touch the owners invested in a black velvet Chesterfield sofa and sometimes this can pick up lint which can be difficult to remove even though the sofa has been thoroughly cleaned. They have therefore taken your comment on board and will be using a different upholstery brush in future. “Everything was as promised - we knew it would be very small.”

However - the cutlery was slightly irritating - trying to manage with tiny teaspoons, then large soupspoons for eating was a problem. The pillows on the bed were very hard - easily remedied. Beautifully dressed and in a great location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The property

Situated in The Lizard, the most southernly point in Britain, lies this attractive little cottage, Rocket Cart House.

This tiny granite building offers a lovely escape for couples eager to break away from normal life and enjoy the attractions of South Cornwall.

Holding plenty of history, the property was originally used by the Lizard lifeguard crew as a storage for lifesaving apparatus used to rescue shipwrecked sailors who ran ashore on treacherous rocks of the Lizard Point.

Internally, the space has been used very well, featuring a stylish open plan living area where you can relax each evening.

Make use of the woodburning stove on colder nights, whilst the kitchen comes amply-equipped with all the essentials for a short break, including an electric oven/microwave, induction hob, washer/dryer and even a dishwasher, so you won’t have to lift a finger when it comes to washing up!

As you tire, get yourself comfortable in the bedroom, housing a King-sized double bed against a timber clad backwall, as well as matching bedside tables and a pretty hanging space – the owner’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed!

Slide open a wooden door to access the en-suite shower, complete with a walk-in shower enclosure, heated towel rail, basin and WC.

A pretty courtyard can be found outside, offering a lovely space for alfresco dining or to simply sit back with a favourite drink in hand.

The Lizard offers a small selection of shops, two pubs, a Deli, takeaway fish and chips plus the famous Ann's 'Pasty and a Pint' and a selection of cafés where you can refuel following a coastal adventure.

Nearby Mullion and Helston offer a greater range of amenities, including the Mullion Meadows Chocolate Factory, where you can sample a tempting range of Belgian chocolate and join in Art classes at the Gallery.

Take yourself further north and visit the market town of Helston, where you can visit the fascinating Helston Folk Museum and enjoy the Flora Day Festival in May.The Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Trebah Gardens are close by along with many other National Trust sites.

For those looking to soak up the scenery, meander along the South West Coast Path and you may stumble across the beautiful Kynance Cove, offering stunning white sands and turquoise waters.

LIZARD

The village of Lizard is situated on the Lizard Peninsula, the most southerly point in mainland England. Lizard offers a village green, small shops, a pub and cafes, with Lizard Lighthouse being the oldest mainland light in Cornwall. Lizard Peninsula is surrounded on three sides by the sea, with the fourth by the still waters of the Helford River, and boasts many golden beaches, cliff tops and coastal villages. Just five miles away is the large village of Mullion, which is home to a selection of popular restaurants, shops and pubs, along with Mullion Meadows Chocolate Factory and coffee shop and Mullion Cove, a pretty working harbour. Within driving distance is the busy market town of Helston, which is most famous for its Flora Day Festival and the many stories and legends about the "Furry Dance" are told in the fascinating Helston Folk Museum. Nearby is the Poldark Mine, one of the best underground experiences in the south west, and further afield is the harbour town of Falmouth to the east and Land's End to the west.
