Why visit Teignmouth
Teignmouth is a large seaside town situated at the mouth of the River Teign. The town was once a thriving port and there is still an active fishing industry today. Stroll down to the waterfront and watch the boats return with their catch of the day. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of great seafood restaurants in the area, where you can enjoy the freshly caught fish.
One of the main attractions of the town is the distinctive red sand - and Teignmouth has two beaches where you can find it! Teignmouth Town Beach is set in front of the pier and is ideal for watersports such as kayaking and surfing. The atmosphere at Teignmouth River Beach is a much more tranquil affair, Sit and watch the sun set while the fishing boats bob about.
Teignmouth has lots of local attractions to keep people of all ages entertained. The Victorian pier has a host of rides, games and arcade machines to keep children busy for hours. Pavillions is a contemporary arts centre that features live theatre, comedy and musical acts.
Places to visit near Teignmouth
Head eastwards along the coast to Dawlish, home of the famous black swans. Do a spot of bird watching at Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve. Catch the passenger ferry over the River Teign to Shaldon and explore the beautiful sandy beaches.
