“The Lookout’s location and views are its big selling points and these lived up to expectations.”

However the property has not been maintained well, so there are two broken windows, the freezer compartment door is broken, there is a lot of mould, and many cobwebs. Some plug sockets were unusable as they were too close to the ground. The loo in the bathroom needs a very firm flush and hold, there’s a knack we had to develop. There were also no instructions for the oven which meant we couldn’t use it until we’d heard back from the owner. The listing doesn’t make it clear that the top ...

The listing doesn’t make it clear that the top staircase is both very steep and low so my 6ft family had to crawl up the stairs to reach it. Anyone with mobility issues would not be able to access this room and it’s not suitable for young children. Finally the kitchen is small for a 6 bed house with only a slim dishwasher and 5 dinner plates. The WiFi was very variable.

The property

Enjoy superb coastal views of beautiful Mounts Bay from this handsome seaward-facing Victorian house, just a few minutes stroll from the picturesque harbour in Mousehole.

Situated up a hill in an attractive garden, the house is spacious and charming; the living room has an impressive bay window which draws in the wonderful seascape over rooftops, and a fireplace for out of season cosiness.

Gather together for good food in the dining room or enjoy brunch around the kitchen bar.

The bedrooms are elegant and the master has a great view across the sea.

The attic bedroom is quaint and roomy with panelled walls, a sloping ceiling and a window framing the harbour below.

The cottage garden is pretty and creates the perfect spot for barbecue wizardry on the gravelled patio against the backdrop of sea and sky (children must be supervised).

There is a right of way to the neighbouring house and a small courtyard to the rear. Explore the narrow winding lanes of Mousehole with its galleries, eateries and traditional inns serving fresh local fayre and Cornish ales.

The small harbour is alive with colourful boats and has a gently sloping beach for safe bathing.

For that 'wow' factor and within a half hours drive, visit the granite cliffs and Mediterranean blue waters at Porthcurno Beach or the romance and drama of the open air theatre at Minack, carved from the granite cliff face and jutting precariously into the sea.

Penzance and Newlyn are a short drive away, and St Michael's Mount is the jewel in Cornwall's crown, perched opposite the long stretch of sandy beach at Marazion .

Parking for the house is at the paying car park within a few minutes walk, where a weekly ticket can be purchased.

The trolley provided is useful for carrying luggage.

A fabulous coastline and miles of spectacular walking characterise the area, with seabirds, seals and wild headlands leading just around the corner to Land's End. The Minack cliff-top theatre is a few miles along the coast, while reminders of the region's ancient past in the form of Dolmens and standing stones appear everywhere. St Ives, with its stunning beaches, beautiful harbour and narrow winding streets is just 12 miles away.
