“We enjoyed our stay in Mousehole.”

A couple of things to note - you sleep on the top floor and the toilet is on the ground floor. This meant 2 flights of stairs if you needed the loo in the night. Because it’s split over levels it’s not really suitable for young children, we had to give ours a bucket to use in the night. Steps at the bottom of the steep stairs into the kitchen are rough stone - not suitable for very young children / crawlers. We brought a blackout blind for kids room luckily as the curtains aren’t blackout ...

Steps at the bottom of the steep stairs into the kitchen are rough stone - not suitable for very young children / crawlers. We brought a blackout blind for kids room luckily as the curtains aren’t blackout. The freezer has a sign on to say close firmly, when we arrived it was completely frozen over and then leaked all over the floor. Could do with sorting out properly. The shower attachment was broken and you need to be careful to close the screen properly otherwise you get a puddle! Access is very tricky for loading and unloading. Bear in mind that there are several cottages on the lane that all check in and out at the same time and it’s extremely tight. We spoke to a local about parking - as parking is in fact £12 a day, not £5 as told in the booking info. We were lucky to manage to park on The Parade and walk to the cottage every day, but it is just the luck of the draw and the only place to park for free. There isn’t a lot in Mousehole - we ate at the Ship Inn, and The Old Coastguard. Both very good. No shop that we could find but Penzance has everything you need and we did a Tesco Click & Collect on way in. We absolutely love Cornwall and had a fabulous week.

The property

In the heart of Mousehole, 200 yards from the pub, shops and harbour, a split-level, terraced, 18th cent., Grade II listed, fisherman’s cottage with a tiny, traffic-free lane at the back.

Front door from little no-through road to hall; cosy living room (TV/DVD) dominated by a fun mural scene of Mousehole’s past and good pictures; on the same floor, a single bedroom.

Stairs down to large fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker, TV/DVD); bathroom (suite, shower over bath); loo; and back door to lane.

From the hall, steep stairs up to two more bedrooms with window seats - a double (5' bed), and one with two singles, washbasin and view of the sea over rooftops.

Sleeps maximum of 5, including babies.

Loading and unloading outside; car park, 200 yards.

A quirky little cottage, excellent for exploring Mousehole and west Cornwall. Mousehole: perhaps the prettiest Cornish fishing village; horseshoe of granite cottages, shops, good restaurant, cafés, pub round its harbour.

Little sandy harbour beach.

Good walks.

Newlyn (busy fishing harbour), 1 mile.

Penzance, 2; Porthcurno (Minack Theatre), 8; Sennen (good sandy beach, surf school), 10; Land’s End, about 12.

About the location

MOUSEHOLE

Penzance 4 miles; St Ives 12 miles.

A delightful fishing village nestled on a hillside and spilling down to the shore. The picturesque harbour, surrounded by its maze of winding narrow streets, draws visitors from miles around, while in the distance St Michael's Mount stands proudly in the centre of Mounts Bay. A fabulous coastline and miles of spectacular walking characterise the area, with seabirds, seals and wild headlands leading just around the corner to Land's End. The Minack cliff-top theatre is a few miles along the coast, while reminders of the region's ancient past in the form of Dolmens and standing stones appear everywhere. St Ives, with its stunning beaches, beautiful harbour and narrow winding streets is just 12 miles away.
