  • “Porthmeor Beach House is spacious, well equipped and very well located.”

The views from the front rooms are stunning! It is a short walk (5-10min, depending on pace and route) to the beach and the centre of St Ives, as well as the SW Coastal Trail. We enjoyed having all of this so near, but not being in the middle of the activity. It was very quiet and we slept well at night! The previous tenant had left some minor damage to a blind and loo, which Sykes had identified before we arrived and arranged to have fixed within a day. We were impressed by their proactiveness - calling us just before we arrived, and the repairs occurred successfully and on time early the next day. Not for publication but fyi: our only criticisms were that there is a sofa in the dining room that takes up a lot of space for no purpose (owner using this as storage?) - i would have this removed so that you could sit more comfortably around the dining table. The second point is that since very few of the windows open, and even then not widely, you should invest in fans for each bedroom. On the upper floor in particular, it was a bit warm and i don't think we were there during the warmest week of the year.

The property

A fabulous house in a fabulous spot, this property has style, substance and spectacular sea views.

Sitting above Porthmeor beach this handsome holiday home has ample space for everyone to relax in.

Sleep in luxury bedrooms then tootle down the hill for breakfast on the beach below.

Flop about in the gorgeous sitting room or gather for informal lunches around the farmhouse table in the kitchen.

Exquisite furnishings make for hotel like comfort throughout with grown up sofas, super comfy beds and crisp linens.

On a good day you may even spot seals or dolphins in the bay below from the big bay windows.

Outside space is limited but there is a little courtyard and a south facing roof terrace for catching a few rays.

Unusually for St Ives the house also has two off street parking spaces, a real bonus for those in the know.

St Ives is home to four white sandy beaches so you can swim, surf and sunbathe to your heart's content.

Lifeguarded in the summer months, Porthmeor and Porthminster play big brother to the smaller cove of Porthgwidden and the sheltered harbour beach, all surrounded by tempting turquoise waters.

It is an easy five minute downhill walk into the centre of town where you will find galleries choc full of original art and boutique bargains.

Enjoy coffees or cocktails on the waterfront or settle in to one of the many eateries offering seafood, snacks and of course the obligatory Cornish pasty but make sure you look out for the greedy seagulls!

On a clear day we recommend driving west along the coast road towards Sennen Cove and Lands End for incredible views and a good lunch at the award winning Gurnards Head Inn at Zennor on the way.

About the location

Penzance 6 miles.

One of Cornwall's prettiest harbour towns, St Ives offers narrow streets, tight-packed cottages nestling around the quayside, the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum, fabulous beaches, superb shops, a thriving community of artists, great pubs and restaurants and much more. With its semi Bohemian lifestyle and romantic air, it's easy to see why this is the county's premier holiday resort. The surrounding area has much for the visitor to see and do with abundant wildlife, fabulous coastal walks, top quality surfing and the Celtic mysteries of the Land's End Peninsula are all within easy reach. A superb destination!
