The attractive village of Rode sits on the Somerset side of the Wiltshire/Somerset border, and was once well known for its connections with brewing and the woollen industry, with several mills still dotted alongside the River Frome. In the 19th century, the village was the scene of an infamous murder, which inspired the book and TV film of The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. Today it offers a tranquil, quintessential village setting with two pubs, a useful Post Office and store, and lovely walks into the surrounding countryside, along the nearby Macmillan Way. An easy drive takes you to the delightful, historic town of Bradford-on-Avon, from where you can take boat trips along the Kennet and Avon Canal, or explore the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Bath. A little further afield, a trip to Wells Cathedral, mystical Glastonbury or the ethereal caves at Cheddar and Wookey Hole will not disappoint.
