We had everything we needed and the cottage was great for us and our 2 year old. Easy access to lots of local attractions and towns.

The property

Garden Cottage, Rode Farm sits within the tranquil grounds of the owner’s dairy farm, on the outskirts of Rode.

Set over one floor, this character barn conversion is well-equipped for families seeking a countryside escape to Somerset.

Be welcomed into the open-plan living area, a social spot to gather after a long day; here you can whip up a hearty feast in the kitchen, with an electric oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher in assistance.

Gather round the dining table for a family feast before heading out to the garden furniture and enjoy a drink amidst the last of the summer sun.

When the weather’s not in your favour, curl up beside the woodburning stove and choose a film from the Smart TV.

As you look to catch some rest, discover the master bedroom, housing a king-size bed with an en-suite bath and hand-held shower, so you can best decide how to prepare for the day.

The second bedroom offers a twin with an en-suite shower, ideal for the little ones.

The property is surrounded by idyllic farmland of a dairy farm and luscious fields where horses are trained, perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life with their other half.

Venture into the village of Rode where you can pick up cupboard essentials from the local shop and post office, while there is also a welcoming pub if you fancy a night away from the kitchen.

For further amenities, head to the vibrant town of Bradford-on-Avon, boasting a lively choice of shopping facilities, gastro pubs, trendy restaurants and delightful footpaths for walking and cycling, particularly along the beautiful River Avon.

While in the area, be sure to visit the heritage city of Bath, packed with places to eat and drink, thermal spas and some of the finest independent shops in Britain.

If adventure takes you further afield, the attractions of the Cheddar Gorge, Avebury, Stonehenge, the renowned festival town of Glastonbury, Lacock, Bristol city centre, and the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be added to your to-do list.

With plenty to look forward to, a getaway at Garden Cottage, Rode Farm promises to be one to remember.

About the location

RODE

Bradford-on-Avon 4 miles; Frome 5; Trowbridge 5; Bath 10 miles.

The attractive village of Rode sits on the Somerset side of the Wiltshire/Somerset border, and was once well known for its connections with brewing and the woollen industry, with several mills still dotted alongside the River Frome. In the 19th century, the village was the scene of an infamous murder, which inspired the book and TV film of The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. Today it offers a tranquil, quintessential village setting with two pubs, a useful Post Office and store, and lovely walks into the surrounding countryside, along the nearby Macmillan Way. An easy drive takes you to the delightful, historic town of Bradford-on-Avon, from where you can take boat trips along the Kennet and Avon Canal, or explore the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Bath. A little further afield, a trip to Wells Cathedral, mystical Glastonbury or the ethereal caves at Cheddar and Wookey Hole will not disappoint. Rode offers visitors a convenient and charming holiday base, at any time of year.
