  • “A wonderful barn conversion which offered everything required for a peaceful holiday.”

Comfy beds, well provided kitchen and great shower. What more could you want. Minor issue with the internet but what can you expect in a relatively remote valley in Devon. Located close to some lovely towns and villages along with the splendors of Dartmoor. It was great to have the owners next door who helped with a rather unexpected problem we experienced whist staying.

The property

In the tiny farming hamlet of Ashford, less than a mile from Aveton Gifford and on a tributary of the River Avon, a pretty cottage converted from a small barn next to the owners’ house.

Own private gravelled parking area with space for canoes or kayaks and, behind the cottage, a raised south-facing terrace (table/chairs), yours to enjoy.

Inside, light and tastefully decorated in neutral tones with stripped floorboards.

Two steps up to door straight into living/dining room (TV/DVD).

Neat kitchen (microwave, fridge, electric cooker) and, from the kitchen, steps up to two bedrooms - a double (5' bed), and a bunk room (3' beds).

Smart shower-room (suite).

Spring water.

Professional catering and ready meals available.

A welcoming spot in this lovely area for couples or a small family. Aveton Gifford: old village (pub, PO/shop) beside the River Avon where it becomes tidal.

Within 5 or 6 miles are several villages (Bigbury, Bantham, Thurlestone) on an excellent and varied stretch of coast: sandy beaches, coves, cliffs, golf courses, the Avon estuary (fishing, birds), pretty thatched-cottage village centres.
