Saint Pancras Chapel

We’ve just returned from our second stay at St Pancras chapel and plan to return next year.

Tucked away and nestled into Washford, it is such a beautiful location with a gorgeous garden that you could stay put for the entirety of your stay. This year we spent a lot more time enjoying everything the garden had to offer, picnics on the lawn, garden games with our adult children; St Pancras has a number of options, as well as evenings relaxing and reading on our picnic blankets enjoying the cooling temperatures. We found the chapel very comfortable in the heat and able to sleep comfortably in probably the most comfortable beds we’ve ever experienced in a holiday home! It would be perfect if the pockets on the pool / billiards table were repaired as we have the time and motivation to enjoy a few frames. Likewise if the piano was tuned but these do not take anything away from our enjoyment of St Pancras. It is beautiful home and we feel so lucky that we get the chance to experience it each year.

A charming property which makes a fab location for a rural escape.

Open fire and aga were lovely additions to a fully equipped home. Only negative was it was cold at night. Instructions were given to heating system, but all a bit complicated as perhaps expected on an older property. Perhaps just needs an additional duvet available. We loved our stay and will be back.

It was a lovely property in a great spot but there were some maintenance issues which were not major but do need attending to.

There was only one woodburner in use and the heating oil ran out while we were staying! This meant no heating or hot water for 2 days, which in the middle of winter with a frost overnight was more than a little annoying. The compensation offered was an insult. Due to the age of the property it took a long time for the property to heat back up when we finally got the heating back on.

The property was in a lovely area with plenty of places to visit.

The beds were very comfortable and the property was clean. Two days before our stay, we were informed that the Aga was waiting to be repaired. This was disappointing as it is the main focus of the kitchen and cooking facilities. This meant the kitchen was cold as there was no other form of heating in there, also the alternative cooking facility was a small cooker squeezed into the small utility area with very little ventilation. It was far from ideal when cooking evening meals for 5 people. However, we understand that occasionally repairs will need to be made within properties. Overall the property was starting to look tired and needing some updating, however we enjoyed our stay for 4 nights.

St Pancras Chapel is a charming historic cottage in an idyllic setting.

The kitchen is kept warm and snug with an Aga - there is another cooker in the utility room - though we used the Aga to cook a couple of casseroles. A log burner in the sitting room was provided with a handy starter kit including kindling and logs and kept us all toasty in the evenings and provides a lovely focal point. The bed linen and towels were very high quality and the beds were lovely and comfortable. Beautiful enclosed large garden which is dog friendly. Plenty of parking. There were good local pubs and shops for provisions in both Washford and a mile away in Roadwater. There is plenty to do in the local area. We were met by Jane, who was extremely helpful.

Absolutely beautiful spacious cottage.

Lovely garden. Very comfortable with a homely feel. Well equipped throughout. Lots of interesting features. Wonderful stay for me and my two daughters and two tiny dogs. Would definitely recommend a stay.

We had a lovely week at Saint Pancras Chapel.

The house is charming, there were four of us which it accommodated well. The beds are extremely comfortable. The garden would benefit from some pruning it is a little overgrown since the web site pictures were taken, our dogs loved it and it was perfect for them. Easy walking distance to the local pub ( 10 minutes) and they served good food . The listing says there is a tumble dryer , but there isn’t, it would have been extremely useful as it rained a lot! Overall lovely location very comfortable and we would definitely book again.

Lovely converted Chapel set in beautiful grounds.

A perfect place for peaceful relaxing break. There is plenty of space in the garden for the dogs to run around safely, and for garden games. The cottage itself clean and well laid out, with plenty of utensils for self catering, I do like how people are encouraged to recycle rubbish. There was ample parking for our cars.The only problem we saw was that the bath taps where quite loose, this however is a minor issue. We had a wonderful birthday family weekend. Thankyou

Very nice, quiet & private cottage.

Good size garden, ideal for dogs to run around free. Enough parking space to comfortably park two bigger cars. All essentials are in there already (kitchen equipment, tv, etc). Working fireplace is a great addition. Definitely can recommened to everyone looking for peaceful holiday.

A very lovely spacious cottage.

Quiet, comfortable, warm and clean. The garden is large and magical with a safe parking area. Historically interesting and also a place where we half expected Mr Tumnus to appear through the trees! Just the right place to mark my 70th birthday with my son and dog. We loved it. Thank you.

Being such an old property not everything is up to top of the range modern buildings.

The property was a delight, everything we needed and comfy beds.

The garden was beautiful and the location perfect for exploring the Somerset coast. We wanted to stay longer and can't wait to return. One tiny improvement would be to add a roll of chicken wire along the fence and gate that leads to the road..our silly dogs seemed to want to investigate. But the owners make it clear the garden isn't dog proof so we knew what to expect when we booked.

We had a lovey stay at Saint Pancras Cottage.

It was cosy and fire wood left for a fire. There was an Aga and a normal oven, 2 fridges, enough plates and cutlery and a good dishwasher. Our dog loved the garden as well as the kids. The snooker table was great fun although missing most of the pockets. The garden was beautiful but could do with a bit of weeding. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and would love to go back. It is 'old style' but I did like it about the cottage, making it feel homely and more relaxed with the family and dog. There is nothing wrong with the cottage itself and well maintained. It was clean and beds very comfy. We also had loads to do in the local area. We only stayed for 4 nights but would have been happy to stay much longer. We loved it and would go back. Lovely host too, that was friendly and recommended some lovely places to eat and visit. Dunster Castle and Village is around the corner and so beautiful.

At Pancras chapel we found very comfortable with a homely feel and very relaxing.

the beds were very comfortable but personal I would prefer a firmer pillow. The kitchen had all we wanted. The garden grounds were lovely but needed a bit of TLC. Overall we had a lovely stay.

We loved the cottage and the location.

however, it was chilly especially at night and extra blankets (which were provided by the manager) but not by the owner were definitely needed. The Aga was a great comfort! Better garden furniture (not broken) would be good too. But generally speaking, we had a great time and would go back.

We had difficulty with the heating briefly. Called Jane 10 minutes later she arrive and sorted the problem which were only user errors

The house looked really idealic from the pictures on the web site, so it was booked for xmas 2023.

We arrived for our stay and the garden was very overgrown and paths very spillery. We entered the house and found it smaller than the pictures portrayed but cosy. We were informed on arrival that the wood burner in the dinning room could not be used due to a bees nest which was disappointing and has been there since the summer. Within a couple of days we started finding bees and wasps when the house was warm in the dinning room and on the table, in the kitchen and in the lounge, which i have to say was a little bit uncomfortable. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay but for the money we paid i think we should have been informed about the bees nest and also the few problems giving us an option to change our booking. We had an issue with the central heating which the key holder had to come and fix and made us aware that the owner new of the heating problem. If this property had a bit of an overall it would be lovely.

Very happy with the cottage, the garden could have been lovely but needs alot of maintenance.

Would love to come back as loved the area and the cottage but some worked would be needed to the garden. Also with a few small amendments could be made fully dog enclosed. As there are areas on the road side that they can escape.

We really appreciated staying at the chapel the crucial thing to us was being able to bring our dogs with us for this the property was excellent.

We loved the garden which is overgrown but still attractive.. We found the kitchen quite difficult to negotiate the large table in the centre making it hard to access the cooker and with a number of people in the kitchen you find yourself edging sideways. A narrower table would really help. Double bedrooms very comfortable For those sleeping in the twin room there is a noise like a plane taking off when the boiler kicks in or if someone is having a shower.. Still a charming place, very clean just a bit of maintenance required

Fantastic characterful cottage, we really loved our stay atvSt Pancras Chapel.

We had good weather and spent a lot of time in the garden, the dogs loved it and the perimeter is very secure so you can relax whilst the dogs explore. The cottage is very clean and well equipped with hotel quality bedding and towels. Lots of places to visit locally, we enjoyed Dubster Castle. We enjoyed cooking on the aga. Lots of books and games are available. A freezer would make this cottage perfect. We would definitely stay again.

A truly lovely property and sumptuous beds, linen and towels, the quality was really appreciated.

Our dogs loved the enormous garden, which was very secure (as I did a perimeter check just to make sure) so they could run and play to their hearts content. Nicely isolated but near enough to the main road for all the local attractions and shops, Dunster Castle is a particularly lovely place to visit and some lovely walks with or without your fur babies. All in all I would highly recommend St. Pancras Chapel and really hope we will be able to return in the future.

An idyllic little cottage in beautiful surroundings.

Clean crisp linen and comfortable beds await you. A perfect retreat for a summer holiday with nearby beaches or to cosy up to the log fire in Autumn or Winter. Highly recommended

Had a wonderfully relaxed break.

It was so nice we didn’t leave the garden for 2 days. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Plus it was spotless.

Really lovely cottage, with a huge garden, could probably do with a freezer in the utility room, but that's the only negative thing, lovely stay.

St Pancras chapel is a very special place- book it if you can!

Tucked away, full of history but also so cosy and comfortable. After a good nights sleep each night on comfy beds and luscious sheets, we awoke to birdsong, and each morning stepped out into the wondrous, old fashioned garden, watered by a stream, fed by a holy wellspring. The Aga kept us warm as did the woodburner, and we had a great time cooking and baking in the well equipped and home-like kitchen. The dining room was requisitioned as a study for exams revision but we also enjoyed a game of pool one evening. Our dog loved the place too! The weather outside wasn't great, which was all the excuse we needed to cosy up indoors. Outdoors we loved Watchet, Dunster, fossil hunting quantoxhead to kilve, and other walks at blue anchor bay, Dunkery, and Fyne court. We ate at the Rest And BeThankful at wheddon cross- highly recommended- also the cafe and shop in Roadwater.

The cottage and gardens had a quaint and rustic feel and was great to relax in. This is when we weren’t going to nearby beaches, forests and villages for our long walks and delicious meals. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to take in what Somerset as to offer.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in the chapel.

Our only suggestion is for some outside lights as it was very dark letting dogs out early morning / last thing at night. The chapel was delightful and very comfortable.

Property was lovely and very cosy, however the garden is certainly not secure, we nearly had our dogs hurt on the road after getting out of the garden.

The property provides all required for a comfortable homely stay. The property itself is breathtaking and the garden is beautiful. The garden is completely enclosed and so perfect for dogs. The property is well equipped and located with comfortable beds and the pool table is a bonus. We had a fabulous stay and will likely return. Jane was extremely helpful and went above and beyond for us on arrival. Lots local to the cottage and a pub within stumbling distance.

The snooker table was much appreciated by my teenage children, despite the difficulties of some cramped shots!
