Seaspray (Bigbury-on-Sea)

This was our sixth summer holiday at Super Seaspray!

The location is perfect as it's only a short walk down to the beach yet the views from the house and garden are spectacular. The accommodation is very spacious and there is a large garden. The property is well equipped and there is an exceptionally good supply of books and toys for young children.

We had a fabulous week at Seaspray.

Such a great location. Comfortable beds. Stunning views whilst eating and lounging. Loved being in Bigbury on Sea for the beaches, Venus Cafe and The Pilchard for a pint. Kitchen well stocked with mugs and glasses. Great utility room. Dishwasher repaired.

Seaspray was brilliant.

A short walk from 3 lovely beaches. It’s a really nice house, plenty of space for the family (and we have 7 kids). A great garden to play in. Highly recommend for a quiet holiday near the beech!

We didn't want to leave - even after a few days of unlucky weather.

Cosy pubs and a fire in the living room made the place just work really well for us. It’s a well equipped & comfy house (even in colder months), and I will never tire of the views from the house.

Lovely location despite the 5miles of fairly busy narrow roads even in September.

After many years of using Sykes cottages this is the first one that felt like somebody else’s home.Small improvements would be the updating of some items ie saucepans/cookware and replacement of all the nightlights for night toilet visits. Some shelves in kitchen cupboards sticky with some left over spices years out of date. Small gripes but not an inexpensive stay and first Sykes property we’ve stayed in that didn’t have a welcome pack.

Wow, just what we needed, a beautifully placed bungalow, like you said enjoy the views, we definitely did, rain or shine the bungalow was a comfort, we're so greatful for your kindness to share your property so others can also find some peace and rest, lovely atmosphere all around aswell, will definitely be back , my three young adults have already asked about booking for next year, its our first day back home in the midlands, my mind is still sitting with morning coffee looking out over the horizon, thank you so much, feel refreshed anteater to get on with my own projects over winter until we're back at Seapray .

This was our fifth summer holiday at Seaspray!

The new blinds are splendid. Seaspray is perfect for the family; it is spacious, near the beach and has fabulous views. The children loved the super and appropriate toys and books. Thank you. Can't wait for visit No 6!

The location and view are excellent.

The facilities are exactly as described. The garden furniture isn't that comfortable. There's little shade, no parasol. The east side of the house smells of oil.

We had another lovely stay at Seaspray and it was great to see that the seagull problem has been solved!

As mentioned previously it would nice to have a shower over the bath in the main bathroom, as sometimes the one shower in the end bathroom can get ‘busy’. During our stay we were unable to use the bbq as the grill was rusty. However, Tim did arrange for a new grill which arrived the next day, although we did not use it as the weather was no longer suitable. Some small points: 1. There were no spare bin liners. 2. Very few dishwasher tabs were provided. 3. No fire lighters provided to use for bbq. Apart from those minor points we love the property and it’s location and hope to return next year! We had the best holiday, three generations were well entertained with all your facilities, toys, stunning views and stayed in comfort. We were very grateful for the use of cleaning facilities and equipment, with a 2&4 year old they were much needed. Thank you again. We can’t wait to visit again.

A lovely property, very well equipped for a self-catering stay, and with the added bonus of fabulous views.

All that you need is provided. We would definitely plan to come back again.

It would be nice to have a second shower even if this is over the bath and enclosed correctly.

With six people staying it would be helpful to have different coloured towels provided for each bedroom.

Well equipped holiday home in beautiful location.

Three generations of our family enjoyed our stay, with plenty of activities for the young and fit and the oldies enjoyed the peace and stunning sea views. Could see Eddystone lighthouse on the horizon on a clear day. All appliances worked well, but the toaster was a bit challenging! Hoping to stay at Seaspray again.

We had a great week at Seaspray last week, the location was brilliant for the beautiful Bigbury Beach which we have been visiting for many years!

The views from the property were outstanding, I am missing them this week! We had to contact the owner on our return as I left some bits behind and Tim has been very helpful. We would love to return in the future, thanks for having us.

Beautiful views and garden.

Very convenient for beaches and coastal path. There should be a shower in the main bathroom over the bath as we all had to use the same shower in the small bathroom. The gate posts, gate and sign on the gate need replacing and updating! All guttering needs washing! First impressions are important. Overall we had a lovely stay and will certainly return next year.

We had such a joy of a stay at Seaspray.

It is hands down the best self-catering cottage we’ve stayed in. It has all the home comforts you need for an easy and enjoyable holiday. The views from the cottage are spectacularly beautiful. Our grandson had the best time with lots of space to play, the beautiful beaches nearby and a very exciting trip on the sea tractor that takes you to Burgh Island and back at high tide. This was a magical stay at a very special place.

A wonderful property with a stunning view.

We were very lucky to have sunny weather, cold but sunny so we could use the garden too. Our grandchildren enjoyed playing with all the toys and reading the books. There is everything provided that you could possibly need and it is very clean and well maintained.

Beautiful cottage and location - excellent space for 8, including elderly and young children.

Wonderful views all-round of the sea and landscape. We are already looking forward to returning to the property in August. Internet speed and reliability a little slower and patchy - obviously a little issue with the locks / keys when first accessing the property, but dealt with very well and swiftly in the circumstances. We can't wait to get back and enjoy the sunshine and seaside later in the year.

Seaspray was the perfect base for our holiday.

We were two families with young children and did not find anything lacking. The outdoor shower and drying room were particularly useful as well as the big cupboard of toys and books. The children enjoyed the garden and the grown ups very much enjoyed the amazing views.

The bungalow was excellent for our family holiday.

The views are amazing, sadly we didnt get very good weather, our grandsons were with us the first weekend and they loved the toys and even managed to get a swim in the sea between storms. The beds were very comfortable and despite the windy weather we all slept really well. Found the utility room great for hanging wet clothes to dry. Look forward to staying again in the future.

The main issue was the blinds in the conservatory / dinning area.

Only one side was working correctly with both the front and patio door side broken and only useable by hand. The whole holiday experience was however very relaxing , comfortable and enjoyable. It’s a lovely location in our favourite Devon coastal setting.

Our third stay at Seaspray.

It is perfect for the family. The location is unbeatable - fabulous coastal views; spacious accommodation; large garden; short walk to the beach and coastal path. Thank you. We are looking forward to our fourth visit!

Great property, amazing views and a lovely garden.

A couple of very minor issues and they were resolved straight away. Property has everything you need, very clean and comfortable. Great location, albeit a steep walk back up to it. Would recommend taking black out blinds with you if have young children, bedrooms very light on summer nights. Would definitely stay again

Seaspray was excellent.

Beautiful location and views, lovely garden and the house is very well equipped.

This was our second visit.

Once again, Seaspray was absolutely perfect for us! The location is fabulous and the bungalow is very well eqipped for children. Our grandchildren loved the bunk beds. Thank you. We will definitely come again!

Stunning location and a beautiful, welcoming home.

The beaches nearby were amazing! We particularly loved the amazing views from the dining table and garden. The kitchen was very well equipped and all the toys, games and kids equipment (cot, little table etc.) made travelling with young children much easier. Would recommend making clearer in the listing or communications that there is a bed guard available (we wouldn't have bothered bringing our own) and would also advise making the details on waste collection a bit clearer - perhaps a sheet on the fridge so it's easy to find. Overall one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in - unbeatable location, gorgeous garden, stunning views and a lovely cottage with plenty of space.

We had a fantastic holiday at Seaspray and so much so we have booked again for next year.

The house is in a great location with the best views of the sea and coast from any property we have stayed in. The property is very comfy and loads of indoor and outdoor space. Our party consisted of 6 (wife and I, two kids and grandparents) and we had ample space. Our eldest (4) loved his room as it had a lovely animal theme and very happily slept in there without a problem. The house was stocked with everything you need as a family on holiday: washing machine and dishwasher tablets, hand wash, loads of toys, kids puzzles and books. I wish they hold told us this in advance as this would have saved precious boot space and is a great selling point for families. There is also a storage box outside with things for the beach (buckets, spades etc.), which again it would have been great to have been made aware of and made it clear it was for guests. Only a few very niggles; 1)the blinds in the conservatory have seen better days and need replacing asap. You will want to close them in the afternoon to keep the house cool, but when do you will find sections are broken or don’t work well. 2) we have an electric car and as it is a little remote there are no charging stations within 30 mins drive. It would be a great benefit to get a electric car charger added to the property. There are some on other rentals on the road, so it would be great to see next year.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Seaspray.

The property is lovely. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The toys and games were a great bonus. Also the outdoor shower is so useful after a day at the beach. The owner was very kind and helpful. We particularly enjoyed the amazing views and spectacular sunsets and the beach nearby was a joy. We certainly hope to return.

When I called Sykes Cottage the day before we were due to go i was given the wrong number for the Property Managment company I.

e. I was given the previous management company/people instead, and only through phoning around after contacting them did I get hold of the current ones. Also Sykes Cottage info said 3pm check in when it turned out to be 4, so all in all Skyes just need to double check the info they have on file before passing it out to the guest. The property itself was ideal

Cottage instructions inaccurate.

There was no starter kit or logs for burner. Instead cupboard listed was labelled owners & filled with misc items!, Washing was left hanging in utility room, obscuring cupboard initially. Late evening during a thunderstorm with no other form of heating, being told the shop supplying logs 5 miles away, not helpful. Ash tray wasn’t emptied . Several large windows with views, filled with water from failed double glazing, spoiling the view. The patio door wouldn’t open in the bedroom that also needs a new mattress/bed. Had to sleep in children’s bed in little bedroom. Door keys need some attention, don’t always lock or unlock first time. My daughter had the same design & had no trouble once replaced. It was very difficult to manoeuvre my husbands xj jag through the narrow gate entrance, could do with opening the fixed side! There were conflicting instructions for rubbish collections with 2 different dates & no clear instructions what went in which bin, bearing in mind other parts of the country have different systems as do we in the High Peak! If all these issues were addressed it would be a really fab place to stay.

Bigbury-on-Sea is a wonderful holiday destination.

The beach is one massive stretch of sand that seems to go on for miles at low tide. The views from Burgh Island are fantastic. We enjoyed being able to do various walks straight from the cottage door which meant we didn’t need to drive anywhere for several days. However you do need to drive to pick up groceries apart from a small shop in the next bay of Challaborough which is accessible on foot down a steep unmade track. Sea spray cottage itself has everything you need in the way of facilities and equipment, it is on one level apart from a step down into the conservatory and one up to the master bedroom, there are several steps in the garden. The area in general has steep hills and is difficult if you have mobility issues. No need to watch tv as the view from the conservatory provides entertainment every minute of the day and whatever the weather, bring binoculars. We had near perfect sunny, warm weather for the two weeks we were there but if it rained every day you would need to drive out of the village along narrow country lanes to find indoor things to do. We went on this holiday as an older family group and it’s one of the best holidays we’ve had.

Right from the booking early in the year up to and including whilst we were away the Sykes' agents were very helpful, friendly and efficient at dealing with both the reservation and any subsequent queries.

The holiday was a very special family get together as a celebration of good news following my recent health issues and it could not have been any better. The travel directions were excellent (although the last bit of the route along the typical narrow, high hedged Devon roads is not for the faint hearted!) Seaspray felt welcoming and smelt very clean as soon as we opened the door. Unlike previous holidays with other companies the photographs are accurate and not deceptive. It was wonderfully equipped with ample, spacious accommodation for 8 of us of 3 generations. We only used a car once during the whole week, unfortunately we chose to have a takeaway on the one evening that one of the recommended restaurants didn't deliver to Bigbury-on-Sea! The location is amazing, we all enjoyed the beach even on cloudy days - we were there on the hottest day of the year and although it was busy there was still plenty of space. We had some great multigeneration games of beach volley ball and the waves were perfect for grandchildren learning to bodyboard - but challenging enough for the "bigger" children. The Venus Beach cafe was wonderful - pasties strongly recommended and an excellent variety of both food and drink. The walk back up to the house is a little steep but great for walking off calories after pasties and ice creams..... The tractor trip and climb up Burgh Island fitted the bill perfectly providing great entries in the Year 3 holiday homework "busy book". We would also recommend treating yourself to afternoon tea at the Island hotel if you have a special occasion to celebrate whilst on holiday. We would all have liked to stay longer and would definitely recommend Seaspray and Sykes Cottages. We will certainly chose Sykes in the future.

Location and comfort!

The property was immaculate with stunning views and we had a fantastic holiday.

But we want to let you know about the following: The utility room and outside smelt very strongly of oil. This was very unpleasant and the smell drifted into the bedroom adjacent to the utility room.

Bungalow is very spacious with spectacular views.

We had a baby with us and would have liked a proper cot. Travel cot provided not as comfortable as would have liked. Beautiful area, highly recommended.

Brilliant property - high quality of equipment yet somehow we felt very relaxed and didn't worry about breaking anything! Views are amazing - beach on the doorstep yet far enough away not to be noisy and annoying when busy. Coastal paths lovely in both directions. Garden full of bird song fro sunrise to sunset. We even had glow-worms at night!

Lovely bungalow in perfect location, with views to the see and Burgh Island. Well equipped and comfortable. we had a minor problem that was remedied quickly.

It's just perfect! Light and bright with amazing views. Wish we could just buy it and move in. And you can get a signal on your phone which was a bonus! Brilliant
