“We have stayed in Fowey many times, but I think this was the first time we were slightly disappointed with our accommodation.”

We had to call the caretaker out three times. The first was due to our unfamiliarity with the way the tv worked. The welcome booklet simply stated it was easy to operate. It was not, and there were no instructions for it. The upstairs tv was set to DVD with no obvious way to put it back to tv. Again no instructions. This is the first time we have encountered such a difficulty. Secondly, we had to call the caretaker out because the WiFi would not work and needed rebooting from outside the property. Even more significantly, the WiFi remained weak and temperamental — and NEVER worked upstairs. The third call out concerned a bedside light that could not be switched off, forcing us to remove the bulbs in order to get some sleep. This was promptly fixed. A further thing that ought to be made clear in the listing is that because of the very bijoux layout, the stairs to the mezzanine are exceptionally steep with awkward handholds. This may well cause difficulty or a hazard for those who were elderly or had mobility issues. Additionally, there was no adequate storage for clothes and absolutely nowhere to put even a single suitcase. We had to stumble over ours in order to get into bed! On the bright side, the caretaker, Sheila, was extremely pleasant and helpful. We did appreciate the cleanliness of the property. This is the first time in many years we have had to leave a fairly negative report. I do hope succeeding guests will not encounter any of these problems.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to hear you had these problems. All the instructions booklets are in the information folder on the dining room table and i'm sorry you had problems with both TV's. I'm glad Sheila was able to help as I haven't had any problems with the TV's before. Again apologies for the WIFI I have recently stayed in Serendipity and the WIFI worked upstairs - there has been several problems with mobile networks across Cornwall over the Summer though and that has affected so many mobiles. I was actually in Fowey when I heard about the lights and I had these fixed immediately for you even though Sheila had said that you had said it wasn't a problem but I did want you to have bedside reading lights for your stay. The stairs are a little steep but we have included 3 photographs of the stairs in the gallery of photos for Serendipity. Storage - there are 6 draws in the bathroom and hooks and coat hangers in the bedroom - there is a storage space in the kitchen next to the fridge and under the stairs for luggage. I hope you had a good journey home on Saturday. Property Owner

Serendipity And The Shell Seekers

These two beautifully restored cottages lie in the glorious surroundings of Fowey, a fascinating village which has something for guests of all ages. You will be spoilt for choice between the two retreats, each designed in a luxurious fashion, divided between a cosy lounge, dining area, and a modern kitchen, which can be enjoyed morning through to evening. Whether you are gathering with your loved ones around the fire, or settling down for dinner after the sunsets, you will look forward to returning here, taking in the immaculate decor and its hidden charm. Serendipity (Ref. 984523) boasts an interesting history once upon a time selling and exhibiting the famous Shallow Pool dolls. The Shell Seekers (Ref: 984525) benefits from a lovely outside area to the rear, a tiered garden on a number of different levels; the top most of which has lovely views up the river over the roof tops from the recently renovated Crow's Nest. The properties are only a short walk (approx 5 min) into the centre of town, whilst the harbour, shops and restaurants rest in the opposite direction, and only a minutes walk is the Caffa Mill Car park and the Car and Passenger Ferry over to Bodinnick. The quaint cottages and a mixture of medieval and Georgian historic buildings resting upon cobbled walkways all add to the enchanting atmosphere. With a fine selection of quality shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs, Fowey really is a vibrant destination. There are many family attractions in the area, including Mevagissey and Charlestown harbours, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
