“The cottage was very well equipped, especially the kitchen, and tastefully decorated with a seaside/nautical theme.”

The master bedroom had a king size comfortable bed, and the bathroom shower was powerful. The location within Fowey is brilliant, adjacent to the Bodinneck ferry - excellent for the start of the Hall Walk, which we did again- a must for anyone visiting Fowey. A lot of shops, restaurants and pubs are open in the winter months, so there is plenty to do. It is 50 yards from the Caffa Mill car park. The steep back garden has wonderful views over the Fowey estuary from The Crows Nest, which the owner has created for guests benefit. We had a fantastic week including a walk from Par beach on the South West coast path to the Rashleigh Inn for Sunday lunch at Polkerris- a pub on the beach! Other days we went to Charlestown and also Wheal Martyn - a fascinating china clay museum.

“The cottage was conveniently situated for parking and the town of Fowey.”

It is a lovely cottage, but the cleanliness was disappointing. We paid a good price and expected the place to be spotless, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Thick dust on bedside lamps in the main bedroom, cobwebs, dirty skirting, especially behind the bed were just some of the issues. The cooker was really dirty, we had to cover the oven trays with foil so we could use them. Basically, the whole place needs a very deep clean if members of the public are going to stay there. The leaflets show a lovely fresh clean interior, but those photographs must have been taken when the cottage was first refurbished. Having said all of this, the toilet, bath and shower were clean. It is a pity the rest of the accommodation didn’t follow suit, because the owner has worked hard to refurbish her cottage for everyone to enjoy, but lack of cleanliness lets it down. We did not contact anyone regarding this issue due to the fact that it would have taken too long to rectify the problem. However, we had a good holiday and we loved Fowey.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm very sorry to read this. I (the owner) actually drove down to Fowey on the 4th October to rectify these problems and to speak with my cleaners. A deep thorough clean has been done in the Cottage and I can only apologise. We have had a busy season but still you should have had a clean Cottage. I left a questionnaire in the Cottage with my cleaners numbers, along with mine and Helpful Holidays should you have any problems - I do wish you had called us so that we could have rectified these problems immediately. I'm pleased that you did have a good holiday regardless and Fowey is a beautiful destination. Property Owner

“The property has an obvious issue with damp despite us having hot weather.”

There was an overwhelming smell of artificial air freshener on arrival but this did not cover up the musty smell even in the crockery cupboard of a fairly new kitchen. There was black mould to the side of the wardrobe, where a condensation trap was placed. The furniture was tired and worn, and musty. The property description warned about the steep steps in garden but this was practically unusable for a relaxing sit (absolutely no wine!) due to the precarious decent. We left the property and our holiday early due to these issues. We have stayed at much nicer properties for this price.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your holiday. In my welcome letter and the questionnaire I have said that if there are any problems during your stay to please contact my cleaners / caretakers or myself and we can rectify the problem. In the property description we do say that the steps in the garden are steep and we have included photos in the photo gallery showing the steps so I'm sorry you felt that this area was unusable. I was in the cottage myself on Saturday 5th July to do the changeover and on arrival I didn't smell any damp - when I brought the cottage I did a lot of renovations and re-tanked most of downstairs. Update (September) we did find a leak in the bathroom, which unfortunately has been there for a while but this has been fixed now. I will look into the other points raised again. Property Owner

“Well equipped & clean cottage, plenty of hot water.”

Only issues was the scaffolding restricting the access to the cottage from a nearby cottage & restricted heating meant it was cold upstairs.

Thank you for your feedback - unfortunately the scaffolding on the house 2 doors down is out of my control I'm afraid as this is someone else's property. I know work is being done on the roof, so hopefully the scaffolding will be removed very soon. The heating is on a Nest Thermostat which has been set to come on every morning and evening. EDITED on 26th October - the scaffolding has now been 'removed' from the property 2 doors down from The Shell Seekers. Plus we have since discovered that the bathroom radiator wasn't working, so apologies as this would have caused a temperature problem upstairs, this has now been fixed. Property Owner

We had a brilliant time in Fowey and all the local areas it was amazing how many things there are to do in close proximity. So many pubs and places to eat you definitely won’t go hungry or thirsty. “The cottage had a good location, beds were comfortable.”

Fairly clean but a few dead insects on windows etc, also the sofa and armchair covers needed washing as did the fleece blankets in lounge and cushion covers as they smelled doggy. The throw in main bedroom needed washing too, a few dubious stains on it. We had to complain twice while there due to the horrible smell of cat urine in the bathroom which wouldn’t go. There was scaffolding on the house next door and one a couple down. It was very difficult to gain access past the scaffolding and the builders’ equipment on an already narrow walkway. The builders began before 8am every morning and were very noisy with loud music , drilling and banging. They continued all day until 4.30 ish. Not the relaxing holiday cottage we were hoping for!

I'm so sorry your week wasn't as relaxing as you had hoped. Unfortunately the scaffolding on the house 2 doors down is out of my control I'm afraid as this is someone else's property. I did call the building company though and asked them to keep their music down as I had guests in house. The scaffolding on the house next door, this is my other Cottage, Serendipity and there wasn't any work being done during your stay. I did ask both my Caretakers to go and investigate the smell in the bathroom at different times as I have never had a cat in the Cottage and on both visits which were on different days, they came back to me saying they couldn't smell anything - no-one has ever complained before about a cat urine smell. The sofa covers and throws have been sent to the laundry. Property Owner

“I loved this cottage.”

The cosy living room, the great kitchen/dining space, the comfortable bedrooms and the good sized bathroom. It was lovely. Really well done and super comfy and clean. The milk and biscuits were really appreciated on arrival too. Also it’s a great location. It really isn’t much of a walk into the town and is really close to the car park.

“The Shell Seekers is a beautifully decorated comfortable little cottage at the other end of Fowey.”

Perfect for the car ferry and good car park just yards away. The shops and restaurants are a bit of a walk along the very narrow street but then we were happy to do that as having been to Fowey before we knew the Geography. As warned ,the steps up to the cottage with suitcases and up to the lovely crows nest are very narrow and steep…. Which we with one cronky knee in our 70 s just managed! A lovely house, highly recommend.

“Great location.”

Just a wander down into Fowey centre; 2 minutes from the council car park (buy a rover ticket so you can use any of their car parks with no faffing about for cash / card payments). Comfortably and well furnished, this little cottage is well stocked with all the little things we often miss when in a rental property. But for the bathroom floor needing replacing (very worn and chipped laminate) and the lack of a real fire, this place would be perfect.

“Lovely property - plenty of room, immaculately clean and well-situated for visiting this part of Cornwall.”

My only reason for not awarding absolute maximum top marks was that the wi-fi signal was very unreliable, although I accept this may be related to the area's network coverage rather than the property itself. Nonetheless I'd strongly recommend it and would most certainly return here anytime.

“Pleasant cottage in good location for Fowey amenities and car park really close by (Caffa Mill) which was handy as not possible to pull up outside to unload.”

It was well equipped. I appreciate it was end of season but everything felt a little tired and cleanliness whilst ok could have been better - you could see finger prints all over kitchen cupboard doors, light switches and cooker controls etc. wall next to dishwasher was splashed with stains, mirror and TV in lounged had large smears on them and we had to clean up the ‘crows nest’ before using. Crows nest is a lovely space but in our opinion unsuitable for anyone with any mobility issues, even minor ones. Only used a few times as a bit of an effort to get up there especially if you wanted to take any drinks or food. Internet connection was useless and we had to purchase data and coffee machine didn’t work which was a shame as we had bought ‘pods’ specially as we use an espresso machine at home. The heating was on full blast when we arrived which was overwhelming. It wasn’t easy to sort this due to the way it was set up, we had to turn all radiators we could off (although you couldn’t turn off the ones in the kitchen and bathroom) and lower the temperature setting on the boiler. This wasn’t helped by not being able to open any downstairs windows (it could have been us but they didn’t seem to be able to be opened?) and the window in the main bedroom had a note on asking us not to open as it was broken and awaiting repair, not ideal as we do sleep with an open window at home as we like fresh air to circulate. We didn’t need to turn any radiators back on or turn temperature back up during our stay. Lounge was cosy, cushions need replacing as flat and whilst it was ok for the 3 of us you would struggle watching TV if there were 4 people as one of the 4 seats is under the TV. Great selection of games provided. Overall we enjoyed our stay but it’s not somewhere we would consider a return visit to.

Thank you for your feedback and I have been down to The Shell Seekers yesterday to check on the cottage. After a busy season, I agree the paint work is needing a little TLC and the cottage has been booked out to maintenance for the first week of November. I used the coffee machine and all was working correctly, so apologies that it didn't seem to work during your stay. I have recently installed a Nest Thermostat, which I control from my mobile, so that I can make sure the cottage is warm for everyone's arrival after travelling to Fowey - I have left details about this in our welcome letter along with all our mobile numbers incase you needed to call us about any issues, apologies that you didn't see this and I tried all the windows and they all opened, including the one that had a note on it, so I have removed the note. I'm sorry to hear the internet connection was down, I have checked with various locals and actually the internet was down across Cornwall. The Crow's Nest is a lovely place to relax and again, we have written in the description for the cottage that there are several steep steps to reach the top. I'm so glad that you enjoyed all the games and I hope regardless of the points raised that you had a lovely holiday in beautiful Fowey. Property Owner

“A lovely well equipped, comfortable cottage.”

We really enjoyed staying here - it’s an easy walk into the town and there’s always lots to watch on the river. We especially loved sitting up in the Crow’s Nest for meals, relaxing with a book or just enjoying the view. It’s great to have found somewhere to stay in Fowey with an outdoor space - it seems to catch the sun for most of the day but shade can be found if you need it. As the description states you do need to take care on the steps outside, and inside. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage is beautifully furnished. We found everything we needed in the kitchen. Parking is easy nearby - we used the Old Station Yard car park. We can’t wait to go again!

“I think the description of the back garden/yard was very generously written and so we were not expecting its steepness.”

The 'much commented about' top deck has doubtless involved a lot of work and is a triumph for the owner, is almost inaccessible to anyone other than the quite fit, due to the almost ladder like access to it. The house was very well equipped and the somewhat cosy space has been well utilised

No more than 5 minutes walk to the centre of the shops, pubs and restaurants that Fowey has to offer. The house itself is lovely and has everything that's needed for a comfortable stay. “This was our 2nd stay at Shellseekers after enjoying our first so much.”

The cottage is superbly equipped, clean and bright and makes a fantastic base for exploring Fowey and its surroundings. You're close enough to Fowey that a short walk takes you to the middle of town, but the elevated position off the road affords you peace and privacy, too. There is no shortage of walks and picturesque beaches within easy reach and in the evening you can climb up to the sun terrace and watch the light fade on the estuary. Wish we were still there!

“This cottage was booked to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary so the experience was very important to us and it didn't disappoint.”

The cottage itself was superb. Beautifully furnished, cosy and romantic. It's a 7 minute walk to the centre of Fowey which is a beautiful village, with a myriad of places to eat, drink and shop. Or walk across the road to catch a ferry to Polruan, Biddinick or on the car ferry and a short drive to Looe. Close to Eden project, Heligan Gardens and other tourist spots, but to be honest we were happy to potter about in Fowey and surrounding villages. Cannot recommend highly enough and hope to return very soon.

“We’ve used Shellseekers twice a year, since it first became a holiday rental.”

.. some 5 times now, and have always found it an extremely comfortable, home from home stay. However, on our recent visit last week, we noticed that a few things around the house have begun to feel a little tired and well used. The bedding has been the same since we first started using Shellseekers and a new thicker duvet and pillows in the main bedroom is now needed, along with new linen and a better fitting mattress cover, which would make for a better nights sleep. The bathroom floor has started to expand, causing large cracks that little toes can get caught in and the cutlery is now feeling very tired and has become awkward to use. These are just some observations we made during our last stay. Please don’t let your standards slip in this wonderful little cottage.... its level of comfort is why we’ve been repeat customers so many times. These things are easily rectifiable, but sadly, if they are not, it will make us and possibly others question whether to book again.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and the owner has arranged for her maintenance man to address the issue immediately. We have been advised that some of the linen has already been replaced but with a like for like design. However, during her visit to the property on Saturday 5th October, the owner will carry out a complete check of all of the bed linen along with the cutlery. “This was a very comfy, clean and well equipped cottage.”

It was a good location as all the restaurants are a short walk into the town with enough choice for a weeks holiday. The only down side was the outside space, which was quite limited and the sea view is available if you reach the top whilst standing. The other negative is the lack of parking which was all described when booking however, a couple of times parking was a problem in the local council car park nearest to the property which meant the designated driver had to wait in the car until someone left the car park and a space became available.

“The caretaker of the cottage were in when we arrived and went out of their way to get the cottage ready for us as quickly as possible.”

The cottage was delightful and a 10 minute walk to the centre of Fowey with its restaurants and shops. The cottage had everything you could possibly need for a holiday and we had no issues at all - although my husband who is over 6ft did keep banging his head! If you are planning to drive be warned that both car parks nearby get very, very busy early am and sometimes we struggled to find anywhere to park and simply had to keep driving around until somebody left. I would image this gets worse in the peak of the summer season. Leave the car at home!

“This lovely little property is very well located.”

..very close to the car park and the right end of the town to avoid cardiac hill! We had a great week, and had everything we needed with comfortable beds, good access to WiFi, lovely and warm, and well decorated so felt like a real home from home! There are lots of walks to do from Fowey, so no need to go anywhere in the car if you don’t want to. Lots of lovely places to eat and drink, and lots of lovely little shops to browse for arts, crafts, gifts, and a few good clothes shops too. The only thing we didn’t like was the lack of recycling facilities, but no problem...we took all our recycling home with us!! Would recommend the Shell Seekers.

The property also benefits from a fabulous sitting out area on various different levels; the top tier offering pleasant views towards the river.

These two beautifully restored cottages lie in the glorious surroundings of Fowey, a fascinating village which has something for guests of all ages. You will be spoilt for choice between the two retreats, each designed in a luxurious fashion, divided between a cosy lounge, dining area, and a modern kitchen, which can be enjoyed morning through to evening. Whether you are gathering with your loved ones around the fire, or settling down for dinner after the sunsets, you will look forward to returning here, taking in the immaculate decor and its hidden charm. Serendipity (Ref. 984523) boasts an interesting history once upon a time selling and exhibiting the famous Shallow Pool dolls. The Shell Seekers (Ref: 984525) benefits from a lovely outside area to the rear, a tiered garden on a number of different levels; the top most of which has lovely views up the river over the roof tops from the recently renovated Crow's Nest. The properties are only a short walk (approx 5 min) into the centre of town, whilst the harbour, shops and restaurants rest in the opposite direction, and only a minutes walk is the Caffa Mill Car park and the Car and Passenger Ferry over to Bodinnick. The quaint cottages and a mixture of medieval and Georgian historic buildings resting upon cobbled walkways all add to the enchanting atmosphere. With a fine selection of quality shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs, Fowey really is a vibrant destination. There are many family attractions in the area, including Mevagissey and Charlestown harbours, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

This small town and civil parish lies at the mouth of the River Fowey in south Cornwall. The estuary of the River Fowey forms a natural harbour, which enabled the town to become an important trading centre. There is a wealth of things to see and do in and around the harbour. Whether you enjoy getting out on the water, playing golf or finding out more about the history of the area, you are sure to find something to suit the whole family. Harbour cruises leave the Town Quay regularly in season giving you a superb view of the town, but for the more adventurous, rent your own self-drive boat, kayak or paddle board and explore the waters for yourselves! The town is steeped in history, so why not join a guided tour of either Fowey or Polruan? You can even join an owl experience, play golf, go horse riding or pursue your artistic talents with pottery or painting courses.
