    “We enjoyed a great week at this lovely cottage.”

    We arrived on Dec 27th to a lovely warm cottage which had been very tastefully decorated for Christmas. A cream tea awaited us, which was a lovely touch. The accommodation is first class, lovely living area upstairs, with a very well equipped kitchen (including dishwasher and washing machine) and downstairs were two great sized bedrooms, both en suite. I must admit to worrying about what the bathrooms would be like as there were no images on the site, but the master suite had a lovely deep bath ...

    We arrived on Dec 27th to a lovely warm cottage which had been very tastefully decorated for Christmas. A cream tea awaited us, which was a lovely touch. The accommodation is first class, lovely living area upstairs, with a very well equipped kitchen (including dishwasher and washing machine) and downstairs were two great sized bedrooms, both en suite. I must admit to worrying about what the bathrooms would be like as there were no images on the site, but the master suite had a lovely deep bath with a powerful shower over bath and was enormous, and the twin room had a great shower and also wc. Both had great hot water and pressure on demand. The farm itself is great, we were shown around the livestock and made daily repeat visits to them. The onside dogs are a joy, so friendly and visited us every day. You shouldn't come to this gorgeous part of Devon and be sat on a screen but we do have two screen addicts and they both complimented the very strong Internet provided. We went for lovely walks around Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge, (Great lunch there), Drewsteignton and all could be started from the cottage although we drove and parked in Drewsteignton (about a mile away) mainly because we have a dog who pulls like mad when on a lead. Finally I would like to thank Jackie for her prompt answers to any queries we had, and also for helping us out on our arrival day when we were late getting to the cottage and had a food delivery booked. She and her family are the perfect hosts.

The property

1.2 miles from Drewsteignton, on a large beef and sheep farm (which you are welcome to walk and explore, with care), an 'upside down' detached cottage converted from a handsome Victorian barn adjacent to the farmhouse.

To one side and at the back, a neat enclosed garden (table/chairs, barbecue) with lovely long meadow views to Dartmoor.

Carp fishing in small pond available (bring your own rods).

Much thought and attention to detail has been given to this excellent cottage.From the garden, steps up to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric oven/gas hob) with oak floor, TV/DVD, Amazon Fire stick and woodburner.

Stairs (stairgate) down to two bedrooms - a double (6' bed) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and a twin with en suite shower-room (suite).

Lobby with space for coats/boots and door to front.

A great place to enjoy tranquillity and star-gaze.

Drewsteignton: With it own pub run and brought by the local community in exceptionally pretty village (church) on a ridge a mile from the most spectacular part of the River Teign valley (wooded river-bank and heathland walks).

Marvellous scenery; fishing; extraordinary Castle Drogo (National Trust); Chagford, 3 miles; the open moor, 6; Exeter, 14.

Drewsteignton is a chocolate box village resting between Whiddon Down and Exeter in the Dartmoor National Park, Devon. The village sits high above the River Teign as it meanders through a spectacular, steep wooded Teign Gorge and has a cluster of ancient cob and thatched cottages surrounding a square, complete with an ancient church. A choice of attractions include the National Trust's Castle Drogo, a country house with a medieval design, along with a selection of scenic walks to Hunter's Tor or through Stone Lane Gardens. Within easy reach of the village is the market town of Chagford where you can find further attractions and amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool, The Old Forge Cafè & Restaurant, and the Three Hares Gallery showcasing local artwork. Further afield, you'll find the many walks and historic sites of Dartmoor National Park including Becky Falls Ancient Woodland Park, Blackingstone Rock, and Canonteign Falls.

Please note - The pub in Drewsteignton is now open again . Fingle Bridge is approx 1 mile away and serves good food in a delightful river side setting, Chagford, approx 3.6 miles is a busy little town with several shops and pubs
