“We loved our stay in Appletree Cottage - it is beautifully kept with a beautiful garden (which we admired from mostly indoors as we went in autumn when it was raining - still lovely though!”

), and had everything we needed. The living room is very cosy with the fire on and the owners had helpfully provided high vis and torches which we used to walk to the pub and back (just half an hours' walk away). A highlight was hearing tawny owls through the window! We hope to come back to Appletree again.

Thank you for this lovely feedback and we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. We also love hearing the owls talking to each other at night though we've never actually seen them! We were super impressed that you walked to the pub - the Carpenters Arms in Ilsington. It's a lovely walk (uphill there but downhill back) and at dusk there are sometimes deer hiding in the woods. Though we can't do much about the Devon weather, we try to make sure that the cottage is as cosy as possible and we're happy that you made full use of it during your stay. You'd be very welcome to return at any time. David and Hilary Property Owner

About the location

BOVEY TRACEY

Newton Abbott 6.5 miles; Teigmouth 10 miles; Exeter 15 miles

Nestled in the valley of the River Bovey is this stunning little town known as "The Gateway to the Moor". Bovey Tracey got its name from the meandering river that flows through it, with 'Tracey' representing the family that were the lords of the manor after the Norman Conquest. It has a great history with heavy involvement in the English Civil War which resulted in the name of the town's pub "The Cromwell Arms" which serves real ale and good food. The history of the town can be discovered in the Heritage Centre, with the Dartmoor National Park Authority also nearby. Bovey Tracey offers a selection of shops and cafés along with the stunning Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery which offers guided tours. The town comes just outside of the Dartmoor National Park which provides seemingly endless walking and cycling paths along with incredible scenery. The market town of Newton Abbot sits nearby, offering a fantastic day out with charming buildings and a good range of amenities. The beautiful city of Exeter is also within driving distance, and if a day at the seaside is what you're after then take a trip to Teignmouth.

Note: BBQs are not permitted due to the thatched roof. Short breaks are not available.
Due to the changes in level in the terraced garden, this cottage is not suitable for young children or those with limited mobility.
Parking at the rear of the property is accessed via a narrow lane.
Reduced rent for smaller groups up to 2 people - available all year.
Note: For any holiday starting between 1st October and 1st May, a heating supplement of £40.00 will be added to the cost of your holiday.
