Upon entering the property, you will be greeted by the sitting room, which is an inviting space to unwind and get into the holiday mode as it features a warming woodburning stove, two plush sofas, and a Smart TV and a choice of board games perfect for those evenings in to enjoy everyone's company.
You will find everything you need to cook up some delightful meals in the spacious kitchen and dining room, as it is fully equipped with all the essentials you need, including an electric oven and induction hob.
The utility room houses a fridge/freezer, microwave, and washing machine, providing all the conveniences of home.
A handy cloakroom with a basin and toilet completes the ground floor layout.
Outside, the enclosed front garden is a fabulous spot to enjoy the fresh sea air, with a seating area where you can sit back and soak up the captivating sea views whilst dining alfresco, or having a sip of your favourite wine when watching the sunset.
When it is getting late, call it a night and venture upstairs to find three well-presented bedrooms, each offering a serene space to rest after a day of exploration.
The king-size bedroom and single bedroom both benefit from stunning sea views, allowing you to wake up to the sight of the waves each morning. There is also a double bedroom, providing flexible sleeping arrangements for your group. The family bathroom, complete with a bath and a shower over, offers a calming spot to soak and chill after a day spent on the nearby beach.
Multiple shops and a variety of pubs and restaurants are nearby for any essentials or a meal out.
Immerse yourself in Brixham’s vibrant maritime history with a visit to its beautiful Harbour, and have a dip either in the sea or in the Shoalstone swimming pool. Energetic ramblers can spend an afternoon exploring the Berry Head National Nature Reserve, an internationally-acclaimed gateway to the UNESCO English Riviera Global Geopark.
You can visit nearby Paignton and its popular attractions, such as Paignton Zoo, visit the Palace Theatre or visit the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Unleash your inner thrill-seeker at Splashdown Quaywest, the UK's largest outdoor waterpark also situated in nearby Paignton.
Venture deeper into history by exploring Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves in Torquay, follow this with a visit to Torquay’s Dinosaur World, an interactive indoor exhibition of life-sized models that’s guaranteed fun for all ages. We enjoyed a lovely week in Captains Cottage, a delightful old fisherman’s cottage only 5 minutes from the harbour and bars, cafes and shops.
We found the cottage to be well equipped with good quality furnishings and lovely bedrooms with very comfortable beds. Lots of nice coves to walk to and dog friendly beaches as it was low season. Berry Head is a lovely walk which can be done from the cottage. We didn’t have heating on because we were lucky to have great weather. We don’t really cook much on holiday but the kitchen was well equipped and there was thoughtful touches, of a welcome pack containing essentials and some lovely foodie gifts which we enjoyed. The only downside for us was the parking, it was a bit hit and miss to find a quiet place to park but having said that we did use one of the 24-hour car parks, which were only a 5 minute walk away, once, so there’s always this option, so budget in car parking too and there isn’t a problem. We loved Brixham and this cottage is homely, comfortable and very dog friendly which is important to us.
We had a wonderful time staying here at the captain cottage as a family with our dog.
The views from the front garden and the master bedroom were breathtaking. The cottage was very well equipped and thought out, making it feel like a perfect home away from home. The location is a short stroll to the harbour and all the shops and restaurants, as well as lovely scenic walks with or without a dog. We didn’t have troubles with finding a parking space. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a seaside gateway. The only suggestion we would have is to fit a little dishwasher if possible.
We had an absolutely charming holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
My favourite part was waking up early, staying in bed with a cup of coffee, and looking out through the window at the harbour and the sea. It was such a peaceful and beautiful way to start the day. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and is full of quirky character, which made our stay even more special. It felt cosy, unique, and very welcoming. The hosts were warm and thoughtful. It was especially lovely to receive a welcoming message before we arrived, letting us know they were expecting us. Those little personal touches really make a difference and made us feel nice from the very beginning. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.
