“We had a lovely holiday overall.”
The cottage is spacious, well equipped and in a nice location with lots to do nearby. We particularly loved the summer house in the garden, where we spent many happy hours. The children loved the quirky layout, and we appreciated the effort taken to explain the interesting history of the property. The welcome cake was a lovely touch, and the owners were friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, we felt that the cleanliness and general maintenance of the cottage were not up to scratch. We appreciate that an old character cottage will naturally have some cobwebs and wear-and-tear, but in our view there were a number of issues that went beyond this. For example, old hair in the bathroom, dirty and stained carpets, slug trails, thick cobwebs, and silverfish in a bed. We had to clean the outdoor furniture before it was usable.
There were also several maintenance issues including slow-draining showers, un-emptied hoover bag, light bulbs in need of replacing, broken furniture (a small chair and the picnic bench), windows that could not be opened, curtains coming off their rails, and door hinges in need of oiling.
We don't want these issues to overshadow the positives, as we think it is a charming, interesting cottage, but it is definitely in need of a deep clean and some general TLC and maintenance.
