Fox Hat Cottage

We absolutely love Fox Hat and Chagford and have stayed here a few times now.

It always feels like 'home from home'. The walk from Chagford to Castle Drogo and back along the river at Fingle Bridge is a must and one we love to take whenever we're here. Great too, to see Mary, Graham, Nick and the rest of the team at The Globe. Outstanding food as always. The Three Crowns has a great vibe and food too and just perfect for a drink of something cooling after a day out on Dartmoor. We'll definitely be back! Thank you so much.

We've stayed at Fox Hat Cottage many times.

It's perfectly situated near all the amenities. Municipal car park is nearby (hint - park at the far end, there's a short cut).

Fox Hat Cottage was the perfect home from home for our all-too-brief stay, located in the heart of lovely Chagford, itself located in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The cottage couldn't have been more comfortable, with all amenities provided and every need catered to. We really needed an escape to the countryside, and that's exactly what we found here. Very highly recommended. We hope to be able to visit again. Gary and Martin.

Lovely cottage the owner has done a fantastic job converting it.

It's very comfortable and the onsuite bathroom shower is very powerful. The location is excellent. Only stayed in the main bedroom which is very comfy. We have stayed in chagford alot and would highly recommend this cottage. We will stay again. Thanks. One note. There was a dehumidifier in the lounge cupboard. There wasn't any instructions but did empty the water tray on a daily basis to help.

Second time we have been there and love it, perfect location for the joys of Chagford and lovely oldy worldly accommodation.

Cosy cottage and our third visit.

Could now do with some updating, furniture and beds feeling a bit tired and not too comfy. Fantastic location though and wood burning stove lovely, more logs would have helped in such a cold week!!

This is our second visit to Fox Hat cottage.

It makes a convenient place to stay and visit our family. We found everything we needed and enjoyed the cosiness of the wood burner in the lounge. Beds are comfortable and shower powerful, there is plenty of storage too.

We found this an ideal location for aDecember stay in bad weather.

It didn’t matter that the windows are small and have no outlook because it was mostly dark when we were indoors, where we were warm and comfortable and within easy reach of the facilities available in Chagford. The cottage was well equipped and good value and Maddie, the caretaker, was solicitous for our welfare.

The cottage was extremely well equipped and had everything we needed.

It’s well situated and a lively village with unexpected performances by the Mummers and Morris men/women, greatly enjoyed. The only negative comment relates to the beds in the smaller bedroom which squeak very loudly when turning over in bed. Apart from that, highly recommended. Thankyou.

it was my second choice of cottage and was dark and a bit dated.

First choice lincombe barn was double booked and your office staff didnt offer any solution, recompense, or apology . i had to book this second property at personal expense as needed to be in chagford for work. It wasnt nearly as nice and I was disappointed. although your local cleaning staff were amazingly helpful and pleasant . I wont use sykes again Im afraid even after leaving a poor review you haven't offered any recompense or looked into the booking fiasco

Really beautiful cottage, in a great location in Chagford.

It was so warm and cosy, the beds were comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were very accommodating when we wanted to extend our stay by an extra night. I would definitely recommend and intend on coming back to Foxhat cottage.

Very well equipped, warm and welcoming. Location in centre of Chagford is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, and handy for shops and local facilities.

A lovely cottage with everything you could need.

Chagford is a great centre for exploring Dartmoor and a really nice vibrant little town, with shops, cafes, galleries and pubs/restaurants. Lots of great walks on the doorstep too. We would book again.

When we arrived the toilet and bath room sink were blocked, this was sorted out stright away but the cleaner should have noticed this when the cottage was cleaned.

The cottage bathroom was not clean dirty tiles and the bathroom fan was blocked and not working.The view from the lounge window was onto the yard of the pub which was filled with rubish not good. one bedroom over looked the same yard you had to keep the curtains drawn all day, will not be booking with Sykes cottages again after 10 a customer

The property was great for our needs and well maintained and the kitchen had good facilities.

Maybe a blind in the sitting room instead of curtains so it could be more private whilst letting in light. We had a lovely stay

This is our second stay at Foxhat, and I've lost count of the times we've stayed on Dartmoor.

Foxhat is perfect for us as we absolutely love Chagford! Such a friendly village. We've stayed in a few properties through Helpful Holidays/Sykes. Thoroughly recommend this accommodation. It's so clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and a good night's rest in the lovely large bed! Check out The Globe for amazing food and a warm welcome from Mary, Graham and Nick and The Three Crowns too. Breakfast at Folklore is amazing! Such beautiful walks directly from the cottage door, over to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo. Plenty of parking in the main carpark and so cheap. Can't fault anything! We always return every year, so will be back again next spring.

The cottage is beautifully presented with excellent facilities.

It is extremely well placed in the village and the owners have thought carefully about every detail to make our stay pleasurable. I am sure the owner is aware that the shower above the sitting room occasionally leaks and drips down onto the single sofa seat. There is some small water damage on the panelling above the chair which I noticed on a previous visit too. We are looking forward to our next visit later in the month!

An ideal base for catching up with our Chagford family.

The cottage was so warm and cosy we didn’t need the wood burner. Everything was provided for a very comfortable stay for adults and dog. We were particularly impressed by the beds and showers. Hope to make a return trip soon.

Lovely week away the cottage was bigger than expected so nice surprise really clean plenty of towels which was nice lovely cake on arrival and milk.

Very well situated too didn't pay for parking all week ! Would return.

We have stayed at Fox Hat several times before.

It's just off the high street but very quiet, so the location is ideal. Free parking for up to 2 hours is available nearby and the municipal car park is just around the corner (£3 a day). A pleasant and well-presented place to stay.

We had the best few days staying in this delightful cottage right in the middle of Chagford.

It is warm and cosy, very well equipped and within walking distance of great pubs, cafés and shops. There are wonderful walks from the front door and it's also easy to get out onto the moors nearby. Thank you for the milk and delicious cake, and for leaving a ball, towel and bowl for our dog

We had a brilliant stay at FoxHat Cottage!

It was perfect for our little family of four. Very cosy downstairs but with adequate space, while the upstairs was unexpectedly spacious and well laid out. We can't wait to come back to Chagford to stay again. The lemon drizzle cake on arrival was a lovely touch as well!

Lovely little cottage in the heart of the village.

Very well equipped kitchen - everything catered for. Milk and cake on arrival was very much appreciated. Super sized comfy beds and great size main bedroom. The only negatives for us was no wardrobe in the smaller room - maybe a suitable cupboard could be put on the spacious landing. The en-suite shower needed the sealant along the bottom of the sliding door replaced as it didn’t look very nice - also some grout in the other bathroom. Only minor things but the grout did look dirty. Other than that a really lovely week with friends.

As I wrote in the guest book, this was the most well-appointed cottage I have ever stayed in; I couldn't fault anything, from the comfort to the provision of kitchen equipment.

Also, I found everyone so welcoming & friendly wherever I went in the town, & the choice of eateries, whether cafe or pub, was amazing, as was the food quality. I love the choice of independent shops, & the local information provided was most helpful. Well done to the owner.

A beautifully presented cottage.

We tried to work the heating but ended up turning radiator’s down as very hot. Golden retriever puppy had his crate in the kitchen by radiator and he loved it! He wasn’t allowed anywhere else in the cottage (our decision) but all pubs etc made us so very welcome. We would love to come back - especially if you do plumb the washing machine in. Great location but hard to find in the dark

This was our third visit to Chagford, but not for about 18 years.

We are pleased to say that things have changed very little and Dartmoor is as magical as ever. The cottage had all we needed and was comfortable and well equipped. We would very much like to revisit next year. We have heard that a washing machine is to be installed which would be most helpful - especially for those staying for more than one week. And finally, many thanks to Madeleine the caretaker who helped us with the television.

Second stay this year, we adore Fox Holt Cottage, Chagford & all the beautiful walks & scenery Dartmoor provides.

Our weather was stunning & we will definitely be booking again. As described a truly quaint chocolate box cottage.

We’ve been holidaying in the West Country, using Helpful Holidays for about 16 years now and Chagford is one of our favourite places to stay.

Fox Hat cottage was a delight. So very comfortable and super clean. Warm and cosy with plenty of hot water at the ready after a day of walking. Perfectly placed right in the centre and close to our favourite pub The Globe. Always a warm welcome there. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We really loved the location and amenities of Fox Cottage during our three day stay.

If staying longer (for example a week) we would have needed a washer/drier as clothing tends to get muddy and wet after walking on Dartmoor. This is the only thing that would prevent us from booking again.

Stunning cottage, I expected a small two up two down but was genuinely thrilled by the size of the place!

The pump for the heating is quite noisy in the morning but apart from that I couldn't fault it, will definitely be booking again

We were exceptionally pleased with the standards we found at Fox Hat Cottage, and spent a highly enjoyable weekend.

Excellent facilities, and cleanliness. Chagford is a great little town, with a lovely selection of pubs/hotels and shops. We had some lovely meals out, and some excellent times sat around real log fires. The establishments were not expensive for meals or drinks. A drive up and around Dartmoor was time well spent, as were evenings around the log burner at Fox Hat Cottage. We would highly recommend.

Chagford is a beautiful village well appointed with pubs, shops & restaurants.

Our accommodation was in the centre of the billage so no driving required after parking up. Fox Hat Cottage is charming & well equipped, however a washing machine would be beneficial for a longer visit & the log burner stove needs slight maintenance on the lower door to aid efficiency. Yes, we will definitely be back & wonderful that we could bring our dog with us as well . Thank you for the welcoming cake, milk & well stocked beverage cupboard.
