A very lovely quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Two downsides from my point of view which has nothing really to do with the venue and hosts, 1. very narrow roads which could do with regular trimming as my car sustained minor scratches either side from the hedges 2. Advertised as dog friendly. The accommodation is, but once out on the moors, they must be kept on a lead at all times, which is no break for our Labrador who loves his exercise to be vigorous. I do understand why though, but this must be stated for dog owners wishing to stay on Dartmoor. All in all, a very enjoyable stay with Pauline and Jim Thankyou

Thank you very much for your feedback, we're really pleased to hear you loved Kestorway and had such a good holiday. There is however an inaccuracy in your review which we'd like to clarify for the benefit of other pet owners as it isn't correct to say that pets must be kept on a lead at all times. Within Dartmoor National Park there are 365 square miles of open access wilderness. For the protection of wildlife and farm animals all national parks require dogs to be kept on leads or under close control. Dog owners who do not have reliable recall and 'walk to heel control' will need to keep their dogs on a lead around livestock or wildlife. Owners of well trained dogs can enjoy the open access Dartmoor National Park provides without the need to use a lead. Owner relations

The property

3 miles from Chagford, on the edge of the moors, is Kestor, a stunningly beautiful Dartmoor tor.

Tucked into the side of its wooded Teign Gorge valley, an annexe to a house with the most fabulous views over this lush moorland and meadows.

Binoculars are advisable to watch the sparrowhawks, buzzards, deer and many other wild creatures which live around.

The open moor starts at the front gate, so cars can be left, walking boots donned and modern life avoided.Approached along 30 yards of rough track, a gate opens to a path which leads to your front door.

Hall for coats/boots.

Living room with great views, woodburner, small TV/DVD and door to garden (unfenced wildlife pond) which surrounds the whole house.

Kitchen/dining room (washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with garden views.

Double bedroom with pretty views; shower-room (suite).

Family and friends welcome to camp on site (extra), by arrangement.

Spring water.

No children under 7, except pre-crawling babies, because of pond.

A fantastic place for serious walkers or for simply wandering Dartmoor's valleys and tors to soak up the spectacular views and peace.

Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor.Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (Nat.Trust).Excellent walking; superb views.Open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter (city amenities), 17; sea/beaches, about 20.
