Reviews

    • “An absolutely idyllic location, peace, birdsong, starry skies. A wonderful variety of walks starting outside the garden gate which opens out onto the moor. Shops, pubs and cafes in Chagford very dog friendly. Friendly helpful owners placed chocolates, fresh flowers and fresh eggs in the property for our arrival. We will definitely return.”

    Mr Toft, Preston, May 2018

    • “I love this location due to the fact that you can walk onto the moor from the garden gate. It's ideal for anyone wanting quiet, walking and relaxing and to be able to take the dogs . It's not for anyone who wants a fish and chip shop or ice cream van on their doorstep, or a large TV. Chagford is lovely but expensive. I am returning next year.”

    Mrs O'connor, BRISTOL, April 2018

    • “Kestorway is by far the best property on your books for walking on Dartmoor straight from the garden gate. It is like a home from home with an exceedingly warm welcome from the owners who share my love of dogs and Dartmoor. The accommodation is well equipped and very comfortable. The perfect retreat to recharge your batteries.”

    Miss Coles, Callington, April 2018

    • “Very comfortable accommodation in a beautiful spot on Dartmoor. Pauline and Jim on hand to be helpful if needed, but never intrusive. We would definitely happily go back.”

    Ms Kerr, BRIGHTON, March 2018

The Property

3 miles from Chagford, on the edge of the moors, is Kestor, a stunningly beautiful Dartmoor tor. Tucked into the side of its wooded Teign Gorge valley, an annexe to a house with the most fabulous views over this lush moorland and meadows. Binoculars are advisable to watch the sparrowhawks, buzzards, deer and many other wild creatures which live around. The open moor starts at the front gate, so cars can be left, walking boots donned and modern life avoided.Approached along 30 yards of rough track, a gate opens to a path which leads to your front door. Hall for coats/boots. Living room with great views, woodburner, small TV/DVD and door to garden (unfenced wildlife pond) which surrounds the whole house. Kitchen/dining room (washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with garden views. Double bedroom with pretty views; shower-room (suite). Family and friends welcome to camp on site (extra), by arrangement. Spring water. No children under 7, except pre-crawling babies, because of pond. A fantastic place for serious walkers or for simply wandering Dartmoor's valleys and tors to soak up the spectacular views and peace.

Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor. Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (Nat. Trust). Excellent walking; superb views. Open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter (city amenities), 17; sea/beaches, about 20.
