Excellent cottage, comfortable and clean.

Everything you needed was there. Quiet and peaceful, a lovely little garden to sit out in. Can’t fault it.

Lovely cosy cottage in the centre of Chagford.

Well appointed, with everything you need for your stay and great food and drink on the doorstep. Great location for exploring the area around Dartmoor. Parking is in a nearby car park - not expensive, but you need to make sure you keep an eye on the charging times and make sure you are covered (probably easiest with the parking app, that way you don't need to head down and buy a ticket from the machine!).

A very cosy and comfortable cottage, well equipped and tastefully furnished.

In a perfect position to explore Chagford and the surrounding area.

Claire & Neil couldn’t do anything to improve the cold/wet/windy weather!

A perfect base in the town, close to all the amenities and only a short walk to the car park.

The cottage is extremely well equipped, comfortable and warm and our 'go-to' cottage in Chagford. We have stayed here before and have booked again for 2026.

We had the most perfect of stays at this cottage.

Every detail thought about. From pillows and towels to crockery and kitchen facilities we had everything we could need. The cottage is in the centre of town but it was so peaceful even when the town was bustling. We were greeted by the iconic Dartmoor ponies outside our window on the morning of our departure nothing could have been better thank you

A perfectly lovely cottage in the heart of Chagford!

Ideally situated for exploring Dartmoor and surrounds, with every need (deli, shops, cafes, pubs) within walking distance in the village. Exceptional communication every step of the way, superbly furnished with every comfort in mind, thoughtfully equipped, sparkling clean inside and out. Simply charming. We did not want to leave and look forward to returning soon!

A cosy, clean cottage right in the middle of Chagford.

The cottage was well equipped and really peaceful. There are 4 pubs to choose from, and many other interesting shops in the town. We managed to park in the town everyday so didn't need to use the public car park.

This cottage is an absolute gem.

Beautifully decorated, exceptionally well equipped and spotless. It was a real treat to stay in such a special cottage. Its location in the heart of Chagford was perfect too. Easy to walk about the town and visit all the interesting shops, delicious cafes and pubs. Lots of walks to do directly from the cottage, so no need to use the car. The town’s out door pool was a really bonus in the hot weather. Would highly recommend staying at The Cottage on the Square.

The Cottage on the square was a delightful spot for us to base ourselves on our short stay in Devon.

It was comfortable and convenient and enabled us to really enjoy Chagford, as well.

I can't recommend The Cottage on the Square or Chagford highly enough.

The photos on the site and also on Google do not do this lovely cottage and town justice. If I had the money or a magic wand I'd move there in an instance. We ate at The Globe Inn (fantastic food, very friendly, welcoming, and funny landlord) and also The Three Crowns, great food and fantastic fireplace. All pubs are competitively priced there. Back to the cottage, it is beautifully furnished, very clean, and fully kitted kitchen. Although it's in the centre of town it's very quiet, the only sound you'll hear will be the church bells in the morning. I'm already looking forward to my next stay.

Beautiful and very stylish

This property is exceptional and based in the wonderful town of Chagford.

It offers a very cosy safe and peaceful environment to explore the surrounding areas including Dartmoor National Park. It’s a stones throw from all the local amenities with everything in walking distance of the front door. We were very impressed by the layout, exceptional cleanliness and dedication to making our stay one of comfort and enjoyment. All rooms are decorated to an extremely high standard with comfortable sofas and beds and a spacious kitchen with small terrace garden. I would highly recommend a stay at No.22 - we will return - thank you!

Really cosy and perfectly situated in the centre of Chagford, a village we visit once or twice every year. The cottage is in the perfect location, handy for everything Chagford has to offer. When we arrived the cottage was spotless, cosy and welcoming. We had lots of walks from the cottage and were able to make some lovely meals in the well equipped kitchen. Definitely on our list to return too!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners have created a calm and relaxing space with comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathroom and a great private little garden to enjoy. We loved that everything that Chagford has to offer, is right there on the doorstep. Delightful!

We had a lovely stay at The Cottage on The Square.

The cottage was very comfortable with everything there that you may need. It was exceptionally clean, beds were very comfortable and it had the added bonus of a small garden ideal for sitting in during the day and evening. The village location was very nice with a wide variety of independent shops, cafes and pubs whilst larger towns and Dartmoor were within easy reach. Although there was no allocated parking this was not a problem as was able to either park in the parking bays around the square for 2 hours or at one of the two car parks 5 minutes walk away.

We have stayed in many properties in Chagford and can say this is the best by far.

The attention to detail is amazing. All amenities within the cottage are at a high standard. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable the bathroom is clean and shower is excellent. The emailed welcome pack is a first for us which just added the extra special visit. Also the welcome pack is a godsend.Thanks Claire you have an amazing property. We will return. Andrew & Melissa

The Cottage on the Square has been beautifully renovated.

Very comfortable, fresh and clean. Everything you need for a relaxing break is supplied. The beds, bedding and pillows are of really good quality, .providing a very good nights sleep! The kitchen is a delight, with everything needed for a break away. A bonus is the little garden, so peaceful and again so well looked after. Chagford and all of its amenities are right outside the front door. Fabulous. A wonderful stay. Thank you.

Super comfortable sofa’s and beds. Well equipped kitchen with views to the garden. Large fridge and freezer. Ideal for walking holidays. Chagford has lots of individual shops and has all you need. Definitely staying again!

Superb property in beautiful village.

Well appointed and spotlessly clean. Rented with the cottage next door for family holiday with my sisters and their husbands. Excellently equipped so that we were able to make some great meals with the local produce, which we ate in the suntrap little garden. Fabulous Deli next door, and village shops selling everything from organic produce to forgotten walking socks. Welcomed by Morris Dancers, Church Bells and birdsong and many excellent walks from the front door. Claire very helpful. Will definitely return despite 800 mile round trip.

! This warm cottage is very well equipped, from the crystal whisky glasses to the nicely firm mattresses (one of the few places I’ve stayed at where my back hasn’t ached for days trying to get used to it) and the tasteful decor. There is good communication too from not just the owner (Claire) but even the cleaner advised us of an early entry before 3 whilst en route (great for those that that don’t have a 6 hour drive like ourselves). The chance to hear the softly chiming church bell every hour, the jackdaws, blackbirds and then the excitement of the swifts returning to the church tower on May 10th.

Brilliantly positioned to feel completely part of Chagford and benefit from the plethora of friendly shops and eateries literally on the doorstep. A delightful little calm back garden to soak up the sun. Highly recommended.

Very clean with everything needed available. Beds were very comfortable. A short walk to several excellent pubs and restaurants where we received a warm welcome. We love Chagford and this cottage couldn’t have been in a better position to enjoy the local walks and shops. Highly recommend.
