The Linhay

Overall the place was good.

Nice quiet village, plenty of room, tight off street parking bay. After booking the owner was really flexible with changing the week to fri- Fri for us, which was really kind of them. Garden very overlooked on 3 sides as previous reviews mentioned. Not the cleanest cottage we ve stayed in, but overall very comfy and spacious.

The advice to reverse park I couldn’t so went in forwards and gently reversed out. Lovely village cracking week

Our second stay at the Linhay, and we had a lovely time, we were only disappointed by the one night we had a power cut, we thought no problem just get the torch we had seen by the back door, so we got the torch only to find the batteries were on the way out and there was only one torch not the 2 mentioned in the information.

Then we had to get food in and get some small candles so we could have some light around the place, other than that the holiday and the place itself was really good and it is well placed for visiting most areas.

Our five night stay at the lovely Linhay over Christmas 2025 was perfect.

Claire was extremely helpful via email and even on the telephone if we had any queries. As it was Christmas, we were provided with goodies and a beautifully lit Christmas tree and other Christmas decorations. The cottage was full of everything we could have wanted and so was extremely comfortable and welcoming. It was also peaceful and quiet. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending a stay at this really efficiently run and delightful cottage.

The Linhay is a perfectly situated cottage to visit places such as Lyme Regis, Axminster and even Taunton.

The cottage has fantastic facilities, with two bedrooms, each with their own on suite bathroom and a downstairs WC. The kitchen diner is ideally sized for four people to prepare and eat food, with the separate cosy lounge area. Again suitably sized for 4people. The parking space is a little snug, and not easy to get into with cars sometimes parked almost opposite, but a very small irritation for such a lovely cottage. If the weather had been better we would have used the outside facilities.

Linhay is a lovely place to stay.

Everything is great. It's the most home like place I ever stayed. Owner put lots of thoughts into details. There is even a foldable footstool for little ones. And the games are perfect for our family to play. We highly recommend it. The only thing that can be improved is the TV. It was hard to navigate.

Very nice cottage - roomy yet cosy as well.

Well situated for easy access to several seaside resorts. Lovely village ( Community) shop nearby with everything you need.

Very quiet too, which was great. Within easy reach of the coast and towns for exploring. The holiday info on booking and before arrival was excellent. I have absolutely no complaints. Thank you for making our holiday so comfortable and enjoyable.

The Linhay is a perfect holiday cottage - nestled in a group of properties with the main entrance facing away from the road.

It is roomy and solidly built which ensured peaceful nights with no traffic issues (although care needs to be taken pulling out unsighted from oncoming traffic). Having three toilets (one downstairs and two en-suite with the bedrooms) there were no bathroom emergencies! The property might overlook/be overlooked by neighboring properties but this didn’t cause us any issues. Being an excellent base for visiting attractions in Dorset, Devon and Somerset both coastal and inland we would thoroughly recommend this property.

Family enjoyed a lovely week at the Linhay.

Plenty of places to go and visit, even if the weather isn’t the best. Seaside, English Heritage, National Trust venues provide plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy parts of Devon/Somerset. Little features to improve/provide. Hairdryer; none in cottage. Plug adapter for electric shaver/electric toothbrush as no power socket for these devices. Limited crockery and cups make the dishwasher redundant; a suggestion to replace the slimline dishwasher with a washing machine. A small paving slab from where you park the car to the front door, as the front lawn gets very wet and damp and gets extra muddy on entry to the cottage. Would recommend and we might be back if the family wants another Devon adventure!

Once the cottage had warmed up, it was fine.

It was like an ice box on arrival. Also once we had sorted the parking arrangements, due to scaffolding being in properties parking area. It worked out ok too.

Lovely house everything for a very comfortable stay .

Only draw back it was very over looked and we found the need to empty a septic tank during our stay very intrusive. I believe you make appointments for this and during a rental when it was not occupied the following week we found unessessary. The neighbour having to cut the grass was also not needed the garden and lawn were fine . Not sure if the owners were aware of these things . Perhaps a mention to renters in advance would be appreciated. All that said it didn't detract from our stay the house was lovely and we had a most enjoyable time .

The cottage was very nice and I definitely would recommend it to anyone.

Just a couple of things that I would point out, firstly, if you use a hairdryer, you will need to take your own, and if you require a washingmachine during your stay, that wouldn't be possible as there isn't one. The parking is a little tight, doable, but interesting, even for an accomplished driver. The property and garden are well kept and nicely maintained. It's in a very quiet area but the garden is surrounded by buildings so not secluded. We would definitely consider returning to this property.

The cottage was first class.

Just a couple of items were not in working order & parking could be difficult for a larger vehicle.

The house is well equipped but parking is not very easy to get into with a large (estate) car. The tytherleigh arms is a great place to eat if a bit expensive.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Linhay Cottage and relived we didn't see the previous review before we left for our stay, Obviously we all look for different things and we found the Linhay was a lovely base with all the facilities we required.

One small note believe the radiators may require bleeding as would expect a higher heat output but the electric stove in the lounge gave a lovely boost when needed. All in all a great stay over too soon.

You need to stay at your property so you can appreciate all the niggles, and issues.

The property is like staying in a goldfish bowl - all the windows are overlooked by neighbours. There’s no privacy at all, and this was not shown, explained in the website info. There being no smoke alarm anywhere represents a serious safety risk, especially as the toaster has previously caused fire damage to the cupboard above. Why no shelf in the bathroom (as previously pointer out by other visitors)? As for the bad fitting of the twin room bathroom door, that’s just a joke. The lounge radiator is too small for the size of room and the fake “log burner” is a laugh. What’s with the sockets half way up the walls in the double room and yet only a single by the bed? As for the “round pin” sockets….? And perhaps finally (because I can’t be bothered to write any more) who on earth did the excessive pointing everywhere, not only covering up the original stone, but then putting “tramlines” through it?? Huh! Looks really poor when the stonework could have been a nice feature.

Lovely cottage nice and clean and quiet had a bit of trouble with the downstairs toilet but was resolved very very quickly .

The Linhay is clean and very comfortable and is in a beautiful area.

The cottage is beautiful, an ideal base to allow us to explore the local area, the rooms are a perfect size to allow for a very comfortable stay, but the cleaning service let it down, the dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid, which in our experience is not normal, the kettle, which is not a cheap brand, was full of scale, the kitchen has loads of cobwebs, which we appreciate all homes do, but these were thick and black, the tiles behind the hobb have been splashed with grease, but haven't been wiped since, one of the baths had a scum ring around it, which I found once in it, plus the downstairs loo is constantly running water, therefore wasting water, all in all the cleaners just need to show the cottage a little more love, as it really is a beautiful Cottage, although I would say that the photos on the website, could be a little more honest, as the cottage is very over looked by the surrounding properties, so if you were looking for a more secluded location, this wouldn't be the location for you

Linhay is a very clean and comfortable cottage.

We were able to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The lovely country walks and friendly village residents made it a very enjoyable stay.

A wonderful sunny week in a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

Close to many interesting places to visit.

The bed was a little too soft for us but this is a personal preference and didn’t take away from the fact that this a lovely well equipped cottage in a superb location.

A hairdryer would have been nice too. The welcome gifts were greatly appreciated and a lovely personal touch (tasted sooo good too) Thank you

In general the property met all our expectations and was very clean and comfortable.

The only problem was an unsafe drain cover on the path to the front door, which we reported but was not made safe during our stay.

Lovely cottage with lots of space.

Good central location for visiting Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Would recommend to friends and family.

Lovely Property & Location, for our needs.

We had a really nice experience staying here, very quiet although in close proximity to other properties. We felt there was all facilities met/ needed, except that although the kitchen was was nicely laid out, would have had to move Crockery/ Shelving to accommodate Serial boxes & other Grocery Items. but general nicely/ well equipped. The Bedroom Storage minimal and the Double bedded room only had a Hand held shower head in the bath. Felt some Tasteful way of putting some sort of shelving/cupboard in the bathroom to put wash bag & toiletries on. That being said, we and our friends really enjoyed our stay and will, our health allowing, would look to stay again at sometime in the future. Thank You Roland & Sally Sawyer

Very nice cottage lovely bathrooms ,we enjoyed this the tranquil feel and the lovely Village.

We had a fabulous time at the Linhay a great base for visiting many places of interest in East Devon Somerset and the Jurassic Coast of Dorset and Devon.

We had a wonderful stay!

The cottage is absolutely beautiful and its very cosy and comfortable. We could not fault it at all. It’s probably the nicest cottage that we ever stayed in. Our children are enjoyed the garden and they even found a cute little lizard. We will definitely return

A modest increase in plates would have been welcome, but otherwise, no!

Holiday home is lovely… decorated well and very calm and peaceful.

Nice comfy beds and plush carpets. The welcome pack was also VERY generous and yummy… lovely area too and great for exploring the surrounding area! There were (for us) a few issues… No tall drinking glasses, only small tumblers or wine glasses, only 8 hangers which is nowhere near enough… especially if staying for a week. The sofas in the living room aren’t particularly comfortable, the leather one is especially lumpy. The private garden is not at all private, people are constantly walking past and it’s very overlooked(not comfortable with our young son playing out there really) The back door could do with being replaced.. Doesn’t feel 100% secure, The second bedroom had a really unpleasant smell to it(owners obviously aware as there is a scent diffuser in there) felt like we were constantly spraying air freshener in there. Also worth noting, the car parking is tight…. We have a 4x4 and it was snug, we were only able to access the car down one side when parked. (Not ideal when you have small children)

We made the original booking for 4 people and had wondered whether the cottage looked big enough.

However we then also added a 5th family member at late notice but we are happy to say the cottage exceeded expectations and was more than sufficiently spacious for all of us, with the additional positive of both being and smelling pleasantly clean! The location was a good base that enabled us to explore several coastal areas across 2 counties. It is just a shame the village pub had closed down during the pandemic. The one feedback point I would make is that as a self catering holiday cottage, it could really benefit from some additional crockery and tall drinking glasses for soft drinks. It was also lacking a couple of useful items like a measuring jug and colander. However, this didn't affect our holiday and we enjoyed our stay at The Linhay and would recommend.

The fridge was far too small, however, we were assured it was going to be replaced, also requires more cooking utensils ie: pans and baking trays.

Although these are justifiably negative comments, they are just opinions. We had a great holiday in a beautiful, clean, comgotable Cottage.

Very comfortable tastefully furnished cottage in a quiet village, ideal if you need to isolate.

The only improvement we could suggest is that the fridge is too small for a party of four if you intend to cook but first class venues to eat within a short drive. A most enjoyable stay in a beautiful area and only 30 minutes from the coast.

The Devon Dorset coast was at its best in the sunshine .

The cottage was a delight to return to very well equipped and lots of thought gone into the stylish decor . Fantastic for the summer but also a cosy retreat for a winter visit . The owners were extremely helpful to me as I had left some valuables behind and they did everything they could to locate them . A rating of ten out of ten for me for the company and the owners .
