Not a very good property would not stay here again

The place was perfect for the relaxing break that we needed the area was really private and very close to local amenities will definitely return

Lovely lodge with lots of great facilities such as a pool table, darts board, hot tub aswell as essentials such as washer/dryer, air fryer and oven.

A very comfortable lodge but there were some elements that need updating or fixing but didn’t effect our stay. One thing that is not on this listing is the remoteness of the lodge which is lovely when trying to get away but needs to be mentioned that the nearest shop is 15 mins away by car. We would have also found it helpful if it had been listed that you can get online food shops delivered to the lodge and not have to read this in the guest book. Overall a lovely stay and loved the little extras on arrival but our suggestion would be to make the listing a bit more detailed

We had a wonderful 5bdays and night's.

The location was so peaceful and quiet just what we needed after a few months of illness. The lodge was so comfortable and the hot tub amazing. We did go out and about in the surrounding villages. Fabulous time had by us both. Thank you

The hot tub, pool table and dart board were great, the location is very quiet and there are a couple of nice pubs within 10-15 mins drive, but that’s where the good things about our stay end.

We don’t normally leave bad reviews, as the places we have stayed at before have not had this level of issues, but the money we paid for a week away here, we feel let down! Before even entering the property, the glass in the door is de gassed and full of condensation and from reading other reviews has been for a long time. The windows and doors are covered in spiders and webs which haven’t been cleaned for a long time. The radiators in the shower rooms are next to the toilet and are covered in urine and other stains, so the towels left on them were not used and the bottom of the shower curtain was covered in mould. The double bed was really uncomfortable, it has a thin mattress with a mattress topper and we didn’t get a good nights sleep all week and even decided on going home a day early just so we could get some sleep. Both wardrobes have broken draws which can’t be used, the game’s cupboard has been put together wrong, so the draws won’t close. This holiday home is marketed as a “fabulous abode” but it needs a good clean and things fixing before you can call it that!

Lovely peaceful location, well equipped lodge.

Could have been a lot cleaner, dog hair everywhere and hot tub not well maintained. The description gave us high expectations that weren't quite met. Beds not very comfortable.

Very clean, everything there that you would need. Best pubs nearby would be ither the Rising Sun Inn or the Bell.

Very disappointed that the oven wasn’t fixed (even though an air fryer was provided for us ) after reporting it on the first night there.

The balcony hadn’t been swept and cleared of leaves etc and hot tub wasn’t checked at all during our stay. The lack of an oven impacted our stay as it diminished what we could cook just with microwave and air fryer and apart from contact day of our complaint and following day no follow up contact was made to see if all was ok . Not happy for the first time we have stayed at a Sykes cottage in over 10 years

Great property, beautiful surroundings.

Pool table, dart board and hot tub, all just what we needed after a day out visiting the Devon areas. A perfect place to relax and recharge. Everything there that you would need and the scones, jam, clotted cream and milk was an added bonus on arrival.

Had a wonderful stay!

Everything was comfortable and clean. We loved the hot tub! Had a minor issue but was resolved very quickly, will definitely be back :)

First impressions were good and externally it looked nice apart from the gas meter that was badly corroded and looked like it may leak at anytime.

Cleanliness was not good, dust and cobwebs were everywhere, cooker, hob and fridge required a good clean, basic utensills in the kitchen with necessities missing i.e. measuring jug, gravy boat. The upstairs window blinds were all broken and incomplete and unusable. Balustrade glass loose on balcony, hottub steps very unstable and no privacy in there. Furniture and bed uncomfortable and requires upgrading but the pool table was a nice feature. Disappointed that Sykes influenced our booking decision by inaccurately listing this property as "luxury" maybe our expectations would not have been as high had the property been checked and described accurately. Overall not a bad holiday property but does require bringing up to an acceptable standard.

We stayed in this property for 7 nights and felt completely at home.

It's very spacious, light and airy. I'm really pleased for the good quality black out blinds, as I normally use a night mask. When we visited, it was very quite. Only a few other holiday homes where being used. This meant the balcony and hot tub felt very secluded. Its was a real pleasure watching the bats fly around, listening to the owls and star gazing! It was an added advantage having a washing machine and clothes airer. The house was well equipped with additional things like dog bowl, poo bags and dog treats. A welcome gift of milk, scones and clotted cream was a lovely touch. We had a small maintenance issue. However, after sending a text to the contact number, it quickly got sorted out within a couple of hours. I feel the only downside to this holiday area, is its very remote. Be prepared to drive everywhere. Even though the local pub is about 1 mile away, you need to walk down a fast windy road with no pavements or streetlights. As we were with our dog, this was just not an option. There is a beautiful walk on the other side of the road, through the woods. However, be prepared to climb some serious hills! I wouldn't visit the holiday homes because of the 'swimming pool'. I actually feel that the swimming pool area was an eye sore and would much better be made into a grassed area/garden/pond/water feature etc. However, this did not affect our stay and would definitely recommend staying.

The property is in a beautiful setting and we enjoyed our stay however one of the major facilities advertised, the pool, was not open.

It was one of the main reasons I booked this property so we were very disappointed that it was not in use. The sign said closed and there was hardly any water in there and it was evident that it had not been cleaned or looked after in a while. It did not spoil our holiday but I really think it either needs to be removed from the description to avoid further disappointment.

A wonderful relaxing stay, beautiful views across the country side, a must for anybody who wants to get away and chill.

We had a wonderful week at the lodge which is based at a perfect tranquil setting.

The property is very well equipped and secure with the added benefits of a hot tub and pool table. Beautiful picturesque walks and great location for exploring local market towns and beaches. Very relaxed holiday, thank you!

We had a lovely few days of relaxing.

Birds chirping away so was peaceful. Nice place to stay had everything you needed. We enjoyed pool table, darts so plenty to do best of all for us was hot tub. Even in the rain was lovely lol. Pub was to far to go hills etc but we had plenty in doors.

Absolutely stunning Lodge, well equipped and very spacious.

The cakes and Hot Cross Buns were a lovely touch... Charlie and the team have thought of everything. Pool table, Hot Tub, Dart Board and plenty of games to keep everyone occupied during the evenings... ( unfortunately it rained all week! But who can control the weather

My husband and I and our two dogs had a wonderful stay at Hazelwood Lodge.

The lodges are situated in a very secluded forest on a hill and has stunning views. The lodge itself is very clean and cosy. The upstairs living room/bar area is a lovely area to relax at night where you can watch TV and play pool. This leads out to the terrace and hot tub, which was filled and hot on arrival. We enjoyed sitting in there star gazing, I've never seen such bright stars! The lodge is surrounded by lovely dog friendly pubs, we visited the Exeter Inn and the Bell Inn, both around 10 minutes away, and both did lovely food, I'd highly recommend them. There's seems to be so many hidden gems in the surrounding area and we're looking forward to coming back to try more! We enjoyed lovely dog walks in Woolacombe beach and Watersmeet at Lynmouth, we also took a trip to Braunton which has lovely restaurants and shops. Most places we travelled were around 30 minutes away but the drives were very pretty, driving through countryside and by rivers and streams. Make sure you bring what you need as the nearest shop is a garage around 10 minutes drive away. It's a beautiful, quite, idyllic holiday retreat and we could not recommend it enough and look forward to returning again soon!

I booked this super last minute and was worried after i read another review on here!

But the directions to the lodge were fab, the lodge its self was great - it was clean and tidy. Was a little tired in places but nothing off putting. the pool table and games were perfect. Hot tub was very relaxing although did start to smell a bit after a couple of days so we put it through a few clean cycles. The owner was great with communication, as i has said yes to a high chair but there wasn't one. He arranged for us to pick one up from a local pub which was nice. I would say if you have very small children then it could do with a couple of stair gates so you could relax a bit more (i had 1 crawler). It is very secluded for us townies! 25mins to the closest Tesco! But we made sure we stocked up after a trip out. Overall, very reasonably priced and a very peaceful break. Great communication and a lovely well equipped lodge

This property is un loved it’s a shame cos it could be really nice , the approach to the property needs weeds pulling up and more stone putting down on the side not a good first look , then when you get to the front of the property glazed units that have failed in the patio doors need replacing not a good start to the week away ?

Then the outside furniture well what can I say shocking all the rattan torn and mould to two of the foot stools stored under the seating , the table has had a bad repair done to it so it rocks so much you couldn’t eat at it so we didn’t what a shame it’s certainly passed it’s Selby date , cleaning of the glass on the veranda was-non existent this was full off green moss on every panel on both sides don’t know when that was last cleaned . The inside of the property had a lot of dust around it the top off the wardrobes head board and underneath the double bed was ,shocking not been cleaned for quite a while nearly all the drawers in the double bed were broken couldn’t use them , non of the windows had been cleaned inside or out , when entering the property a lot of the furniture seem to be cheap and poorly made , the washing machine broke on first use they come and repaired it by gluing the buttons back in so told to very gentle When using it , one good thing about the property is the pool table that’s it’s we certainly wont be returning . I know the outside pool doesn’t belong to the owner of the property we stayed at but that also needs money spending on it all the wooden benches broken and rotten all the plastic furniture was really really old all had passed there Selby date well there was only one table and about 5 chairs , the rest of the pool are certainly needs maintaining very un cared for we certainly didn’t use it but other people on the site did xx

Lovely property, well placed on complex, lovely welcome with radio on and scones, hot tub ready etc.

Loved that dog was included. Initial communications confusing but confusion over wifi resolved quickly by Charlie. So in the end just about extra bed description which wasn't a worry for us and no bbq - shame but again we could manage. Found key ok. Really enjoyed our stay and be very happy to recommend to friends. Indeed we already have. I would have liked a bit more info about supermarkets/food options and we travelled for the pizza only to find we had to order and wait times were long, so a drag out for nothing. We had a great Sunday lunch at The Exeter Inn. Location was quite remote so we did have a drive to go to places. I would think you would have to be happy to stay in mostly without a car. Remote location and lack of polution was great for dark skies however which we did enjoy. I would have rated higher but for the price. Our only real disappointment was the pool which was cold and very shallow. We would probably have overlooked that if you could actually swim in it. Kids may be able to but I could not comfortably.
