“We loved our stay at Meadow Bay.”

Really well presented house and very convenient (we wanted to be in the Bideford/Westward Ho area). The use of the garage was great (our classic mini was very secure when not in use). My wife also loved the carpets upstairs! Couple of suggestions. While we appreciate that some may prefer a dishwasher, we would have found a washing machine far more useful, especially with a three year old in tow! Most families with kids would say the same, I think. And please consider getting a dual fuel towel ...

Really well presented house and very convenient (we wanted to be in the Bideford/Westward Ho area). The use of the garage was great (our classic mini was very secure when not in use). My wife also loved the carpets upstairs! Couple of suggestions. While we appreciate that some may prefer a dishwasher, we would have found a washing machine far more useful, especially with a three year old in tow! Most families with kids would say the same, I think. And please consider getting a dual fuel towel rail for the bathroom - we found it really hard to dry the towels (heating not on for obvious reasons and too much rain outside to use the line). Last one - the cutlery draw is NOT obvious - took a while to find it! Overall its a great place to stay and we would stay again!

“Very nice modern house in an excellently laid out estate with a drive in which to park.”

Its rather more than walking distance to the quay so need to take the car. Free space if you can find one or £1.30 per hour in the car park (Ringo is the app). Had trouble with the television but Keith came round within 20 minutes and re-loaded the software and it was fine afterwards. Appledore is a lovely little place with a museum and various shops. You can can get a 5 minute ferry (15minutes by car) across to Instow where there is a beautiful sandy beach and tarmac path running along the river bank for miles and miles. Great for bikes. Really enjoyed it there.

“Meadow Bay is in a very quiet position, exceptionally clean, very tastefully decorated, comfortable and cosy.”

The owners have achieved a 'home' not a 'holiday let' which is very special. Having private parking and a garage is ideal, and a sunny little garden to sit in is a bonus. Great local walks and places of interest are nearby. We highly recommend Meadow Bay and look forward to our next visit.

“This was our second stay here and we would love to come back in the near future really feels like home from home Everything you need is local and within easy driving distances but I need to see him.”

Do we also love the fact that we can take our two dogs and they are secure in the enclosed back garden? Make sure you read the small print as we came away and forgot to pack our own towels so it have to be our first shopping spree. We couldn’t remember them not being provided on our first visit some nine months ago.

“Our stay at Meadow Bay was great.”

A brilliant welcome package for us and our dogs. Lovely, clean property with a secure garden for dogs. You can walk from the front door, or a drive to Appledore is only a few minutes. It is on a new build estate but we were not disturbed by noise. The only minor thing I’d mention is that there isn’t enough comfy seating for the amount of people it sleeps. There is a two seater sofa and an arm chair. It didn’t bother us this visit as it was just my husband and I, but as the property sleeps 4, you may have to fight over comfy seats or bring a bean bag!

“I was wondering what to put down on this as feedback Because I’m thinking to myself if we make it sound too good we may have trouble booking in the future because of the popularity because we could not fault this property for everything we wanted.”

It was Home from Home spotlessly clean superb location unfortunately we didn’t get to meet the owners That was a first because we have rented a few cottages from different sites. We’d like to thank them in person those thinking of booking with dogs don’t hesitate although the back garden wasn’t massive. It was secure and dog friendly we will be returning hopefully somewhere in the near future it does say that this may be shared with the owners on that note. Thank you so much for the use of your lovely home Les Glynis little Fozzie & Big Harley.

“Nicely furnished and extremely well equipped house.”

Got a great feeling on opening the front door and seeing how clean and fresh it is. Slight downside is that this place is in an active building site and therefore a bit noisy with the lorries coming in and out. The sofa could do with being replaced - it's rather soft and saggy - but other than that, cannot fault the property.

“Lovely house, beautifully furnished & decorated with everything we could possibly need.”

Good location to all amenities. Lovely thoughtful welcome pack. Our only complaint was the building work noise which we were under the understanding from a past comment on reviews that works were to be finished by the end of May,hence we especially booked a week in June. Unfortunately we were woken at 7.30am Monday- Friday by heavy machinery,deliveries by big lorries,huge cranes incessant drilling & loud workmen. According to the sales office we were told that completion wouldn't be till end of January 2025 !!! Not end of May 2024. We have complained direct to Sykes on NUMEROUS occasions & provided evidence of the works inc photos,video's & audio recordings which they've informed us have been forwarded to the owners,we are both terribly disappointed & extremely annoyed that we've heard nothing at all since & getting a response from Sykes is impossible. We've used sykes before but after this experience we'd NEVER use them again.

“Lovely house booked by us at very short notice ie the night before.”

On arrival we were greeted with Easter eggs for the kids, treats for our dog and drinks for the adults. 15 minute max walk into Appledore. I'd recommend that a stair gate on the bottom step would be ideal to stop inquisitive dogs wandering upstairs and maybe one at the top in case of young children staying. Can't fault the house and the stay we had was perfect. If the chance arises we'll be looking to stay again.

“Lovely clean warm and comfortable house.”

Ideally located for Appledore and its many excellent bars pubs and restaurants. Instow is also a short drive and its lovely beach, ideal for dog walking and two great pub/ restaurants. The house had lovely comfortable beds and very pleasantly furnished throughout. Kitchen very small and not enough cutlery or crockery to enable proper use of the dishwasher so we ended up washing dishes at the sink which is something we haven’t done for years in our own home. A slight problem with the toilets not flushing properly but we managed as we didn’t want to have people in during our stay. We tried to contact the owners as we were leaving but couldn’t get hold of them and an email I sent to Sykes was returned as ‘ not deliverable’ No cleaning products or cloths to keep sink and bathroom cleaned after use. We also couldn’t find any recycling containers, neither food caddy nor paper. These were small niggling issues that didn’t really mar our stay. We would still go back to this property. Oh, one more thing, don’t forget to take bath towels as they’re not provided.( we stay in many many cottages over the years and it’s the first time we’ve had to take our own towels) Otherwise a lovely stay.

Although the house was eventually warm and cosy, it would have been helpful to have had some instructions with regard to the heating. A problem arose with the plumbing and was dealt with very quickly. Thank you for the welcome pack that was awaiting us. The gesture was much appreciated as not many owners provide such "goodies" any more. We definitely hope to return in the future..

“Lovely house, well appointed and clean.”

Unfortunately, the advert at time of booking did not mention the building work, adjacent to the house, which started at 7.30am and was very loud and incessant through the day - diggers, earth movers, shouting workmen etc. It woke us up early and ruined any opportunities to enjoy the outside area. Customer support was slow to respond and pleas for compensation refused.

“The house had everything you could need for a wonderful and comfortable stay.”

It was a great base to visit Appledore (15mins walk) which is very welcoming and has cafes, pubs and restaurants. We also visited Bude, Instow, Bideford, Lynton/Lynmouth and Woolacombe. Many dog friendly walks from the house along the coastal path. There is some noise from the nearby building work, but this didn't detract from the holiday. Don't forget your towels! Thank you for the use of your lovely house.

“Meadow Bay is a lovely house in a perfect location, only a short 15 min walk to the centre or a 5 min drive.”

The house was immaculate, it had everything we needed for our stay & the beds were extremely comfortable. The only small thing we missed was a microwave in the kitchen would have been useful when dining in although not essential. We appreciated the kind gesture of prosecco, scones, fresh strawberries & cream on our arrival along with treats for our little dog Daisy. The house is very well located for exploring the surrounding area & there are some lovely walks on your doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & we will most definitely be returning.. Take a walk into Appledores quaint fishing village where you will be spoilt for choice from the many shops, cafes and restaurants and dog friendly pubs.

Enjoy fish and chips on the quay overlooking the sea and crabbing for the kids is always popular. A short foot ferry ride in summer months will take you to the beautiful beach of Instow.

Along with its dog friendly pubs and beaches. The Tarka trail accessible both at Bideford and Instow is popular with cyclists.

Eighteen miles of off road cycling along the river Torridge with its glorious views.

Stop for a coffee or lunch at Fremington Quay along the way. The famous sandy beaches of Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! A surfers paradise and a Hockings ice cream after a day at the beach.

APPLEDORE

Bideford 4 miles.

Bideford is an historic maritime town on the River Torridge in North Devon. There has been a settlement at Bideford for over a thousand years and it has been an important port throughout its history. Today, Bideford is a thriving town with a fine selection of shops (including individual shops), cafes and restaurants, a park and the Atlantic Village Outlet Shopping Centre located on the outskirts of the town. Bideford is in a fantastic location to explore the surrounding area. It is just a few miles from Westward Ho!, which is dominated by two miles of spectacular coastline and proudly retains the prestigious Blue Flag award year upon year. Its sandy beach, backed by a unique pebble ridge, attracts visitors from all over the country and offers fantastic bathing and watersport activities. Just beyond the pebble ridge is Northam Burrows Country Park, which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has 253 hectares of grassy coastal plain with salt marsh, sand dunes and grasslands. The country park is also home to England's oldest golf course. The South West Coastal Path and the famous traffic-free Tarka Trail are close by, providing magnificent walking and cycling opportunities.
