Island House

Our 2nd stay at magical Island House - it’s such a beautiful place.

The weather let us down this year but the cottage made up for that as it’s really such a gem inside. We had an issue with the hot water but that was fixed easily and quickly - thanks to the house keeper and owners. Our only disappointment is that after enjoying two years of holidays at Island House with a pre-schooler it doesn’t seem to be available to book during school holidays now our son is starting school.

We had a wonderful stay at Island House.

When we arrived the property was spotlessly clean (thank you Elaine). The location is absolutely fabulous and we sat for hours in the beautiful garden watching the boats and birds. Thank you for the very generous welcome pack - a lovely gesture.

Superb cottage.

Great location, lovely attention to detail, high end fixtures and fittings. A really lovely stay.

I have stayed here many times before with not one issue however on this stay I was very let down especially with the amount that was paid.

On arrival the front garden/driveway is very overgrown and was a struggle for the duration of the stay to accommodate 2 vehicles as listed. There is also next to no WiFi in the property I struggled to do some work whilst away very frustrating. there was also no hot water in the main bathroom for most of the week, none of the pans are induction so unable to cook on the induction hob, the heating is ridiculous freezing in daytime/afternoon and like a sauna at night but not able to adjust it not very happy with this rule as also no logs supplied. These are all very frustrating things that should not be happening when paying such a premium and never having this problem when staying here previously.

Our second visit to Island Cottage which was lovely.

The tides this year made for a markedly different holiday with more walking and swimming and less paddling. The cottage is well equipped and the owners dealt with a couple of small issues very promptly - the wood burner was a delight and made for very comfortable evenings.

Fantastic property, a gorgeous location

Beautiful property in a magical setting.

The evenings were especially wonderful as the tide came in, listening to the birds and watching the herons settle in the trees for the night. The estuary was alive with fish too. There is one pub across the road and this closes at 10pm. The house has everything you need with a lovely selection of books and games which we took full advantage of. The garden is very pretty and a perfect place to read a book or have a game of scrabble on the cushioned seats provided. You can hire kayaks just a short walk from the property. Fowey is just a short ten minute drive away, a perfect place to pick up a selection of freshly baked bread and pastries each morning. We never stay in the same property twice but would stay in this one over and over.

A beautiful house in an amazing location.

We were very impressed with the quality of all the fixtures and fittings, everything was very high end and we could see why the property commanded premium prices. The welcome pack was a lovely touch Our only small gripe was only having the very small freezer section in the fridge. With six adults for a week a freezer would have been very useful

We felt very lucky to stay in such a magical place.

The cottage, location, decor, finishing touches, garden and view were perfection. A lot of thought has gone into the finishing touches which were beautiful. Parking was a little tricky but fine after some practice. We can’t wait to come back!

Probably the best holiday home we’ve stayed in.

Everything was fantastic. The location was stunning. The parking was a little tricky, but once mastered it was fine.

We had to sell our home KYPPINGS in Golant after much thought.

Staying at Island House is so lovely for us because we have lived in Golant for 60 years and Dad built the house called Kyppings. Being at Island House was so special to see everyone we know in Golant again. We would love to come back and stay again - so homely for us and obviously very healing for us.The couple who have bought Kyppings are so nice and friendly - we shall keep in touch with them. Please can we stay again - I grew up seeing Island House change when Harriet died of old age and I have the special picture of her with the Steam Engine.Lovely memories indeed. I used to go with my Sister Ann on the steam engine to Fowey to collect the fresh bread from the Bakery in central Fowey. We thought Island House is very comfortable and delightful. Only had a problem with the TWO LOO Seats that kept slipping especially in the night when we had a tiddle - gave us a fright as they kept slipping. Please could someone fix them. Another wonderful stay at this amazing property.

We love the layout and aesthetic. Comfortable, well equipped and in a stunning setting. The welcome pack of goodies is much appreciated and the log burner was very welcome this time for those chilly days. Waking up the view of the river is magical. Everyone at The Fishermen’s Arms are always very welcoming and looked after us with some delicious hearty meals. Golant is a delightful village and an Ideal location for walking or exploring further afield. We look forward to returning.

Great location the Island house is an amazing property with all home comforts.

The owner provided a welcome pack with wine milk butter bread and scones this was greatly appreciated. Location was a good base to explore this part of Cornwall, The Fishermans Arms pub is a stone throw away was really friendly and the food was excellent. I would recommend this holiday let to anyone.

Really loved the cottage, it is ideally situated and very well equipped.

Kayaking from the property was a delight and bird-watching during low tide was fun - the house binoculars were very helpful. The Quooker took some getting used to but is great for a quick cuppa. Thank you for an enjoyable week

Absolutely beautiful cottage, we had a wonderful week with our family, all adults and plenty of space but also cosy.

Enjoyed sitting in the garden, the local area, the pub and even paddle boarding on the water. A truly memorable holiday.

The owners have gone above and beyond, everything is high end. The property is well equipped with alot of thought put into everything. The property was immaculate when we arrived with a lovely welcome pack which was greatly appreciated . We can recommend this property highly enough

We loved our stay- the only (vital) thing missing was a bottle opener (!

!) but the pub across the road kindly lent us one for the week :) The swallows were nesting and the babies doubled in size while we were there, pretty sure they will fly this week. So cute! Beautiful house in an amazing location, perfect for a summer or winter getaway!

This is our 2nd stay at Island House and we have had a fab time yet again.

The cottage really is so lovely, clean and tidy, and in a great location for exploring the local area. We were so sad when we had to leave and would highly recommend Island House, it offers everything you need for a great holiday.

We loved the house.

Having spied it last year while on holiday in Golant we were delighted to be able to book for 2024. The two separate staircases work so well as two couples staying, the well equipped kitchen was excellent, the garden spaces and balcony were brilliant and the views of the estuary fantastic. Lovely mix of vintage and new interior with a very homely feel. Would recommend this house to anyone who loves the Golant life. Walk to Fowey is a must and of course the friendly pub is brilliant.

This isn’t criticsim, please take thiis review as a thought for the future to improve a stay at the property for your guests.

Really felt that the lounge of the property lacked warmth, homeliness and style. The rest of the house was a mix between old and modern, perhaps one or the other would have been better, but the lounge is something of nothing. The sofas are past their best, a nice coffee table instead of a trunk repainted which is hideous, a few nice rugs on the cold looking floor, repaint the walls so they look better, at present looks scruffy as if property has been flooded and paint has come off. Some homely colour in the room would work wonders, a nice log basket for the logs instead of the plastic thing in the corner, don’t even now what to call that. The sofas smelt of dogs which isn’t pleasant, why are they allowed on the furniture anyway when humans can’t wear outdoor shoes inside the property!!!!!

Excellent property in stunning location.

Ideally situated to visit several tourist attractions. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

A lovely property so many great features.

Welcome pack first class. Beautifully clean. Loads of new wooden coathangers in the wadrobes. Fresh flowers to greet you. Everything you'd need especially in the kitchen superbly equipped sharp knives dog bowls binoculars with bird book beside. A1. Could suggest a coffee machine nexpresso or similar and rugs/more light in the sitting room to make it perfect. Thank you Simon and Elaine for a wonderful week to remember.

We really enjoyed our stay in your lovely home.

It was well equipped, and comfortable. The views were pleasant, and we loved watching the high tides. It fascinated us how the road flooded! The pub across the road was great too. We did find it tricky at times to get both cars on the drive, but we already knew this. The house is in a super location for exploring the local area, which we did every day, despite the weather. We would definately look to stay here again, if we were coming back to the area. Thank you for the welcome hamper, it was very kind of you and very much appreciated.

For us Island House provides the perfect location for a holiday break, set in the heart of a thriving village community - literally a stones throw from the pub.

My wife and I generally visit Island House twice a year, and that's not enough.

We remember this beautiful cottage when it was a ruin, and stayed shortly after it was renovated.

It is absolutely IDYLLIC! Stunning location, incredibly comfortable, peaceful, perfectly equipped and absolutely beautifully restored. I couldn't recommend it more. It is literally my dream house and location! Thank you So much for a fabulous week!

The property and surrounding area was/is incredible.

Our little ones loved high tide & the water coming across the road!! Such fun for them!! And crabbing in the river was a huge hit! The house itself was beautiful & incredibly presented & the welcome basket was amazing!! We did have 2 minor points, & I must stress they are minor & I do not want them to distract from our amazing week: - the table and benches outside could use some TLC - we had multiple splinters across our group & the smaller bench made some large ‘cracking’ noises when we sat on it… so didn’t use it but the other 2 benches gave us plenty of seating so was not a huge issue for us. - it is great that pub menus are left at the property, but they should be updated (or removed totally) as the prices have increased since those were included in the information pack. Not such an issue if you go to eat at the pub but we ordered a take away on the last night & it was more than we expected to pay based on menus provided at house! All of the above included - we would 100% be back to Island House!! Thank you

Absolutely fantastic

Most was excellent.

A local electricity outage at 10am approx on Thursday 9th caused the boiler to shut down permanently. Therefore no heating or hot water for our last evening. Fortunately we did not get back from dinner at the pub till 9.30, so were not too frozen.

As a regular user of rented cottages the most that I can say is that this is the best.

The house is lovely.

It's very easy to live in and had all that we needed. We enjoyed the log burner but the house was perfectly warm without it. The location is amazing,

Fabulous, picturesque views.

Great location. Lovely welcome pack, however the house wasn't very clean. Mouldy shower door in ensuite, internal doors full of spills, drips and dirty marks. Lots of cobwebs and one of the bedrooms had snot on the wall. Apart from the cleanliness of the house we had a lovely time and would recommend.

A cafetiere would be welcome, otherwise a perfect rental.

A delightful place to spend a few days.

The cottage is in a perfect spot, very comfortable and well appointed. A thoroughly lovely place to wake up in and perfect for a group of six friends to use as a base for walks around the gorgeous countryside by the Fowey River. I love the little terrace on the river and the multitude of song birds around the garden. Watching the activity on the river is great and the Fishermans Arms pub across the road is splendid. The kitchen dining room was were we spent most of the time and is the perfect space for socialising and eating. Love Island House and would like to return sometime.

Beautiful property, beautiful place, Sykes have made booking and re-booking (pandemic posponement) very easy and without stress or fuss.
