    “I have stayed here many times before with not one issue however on this stay I was very let down especially with the amount that was paid.”

    On arrival the front garden/driveway is very overgrown and was a struggle for the duration of the stay to accommodate 2 vehicles as listed. There is also next to no WiFi in the property I struggled to do some work whilst away very frustrating. there was also no hot water in the main bathroom for most of the week, none of the pans are induction so unable to cook on the induction hob, the heating is ridiculous freezing in daytime/afternoon and like a sauna at night but not able to adjust it not ...

    We can only offer huge apologies for the issues that affected your stay at Island House. We checked in on the day that you checked out and immediately realised there was a WiFi issue in the kitchen and master bedroom - this router problem has now been resolved. With regard to the other issues that you have raised, we always endeavour to fix and resolve guests’ problems if made aware. The heating is controlled via an App allowing us to make changes for guests remotely. if you ever decide to give Island House another chance (and we certainly hope that you do) please always raise issues via our Housekeeper and we are here to help. Island House is a fantastic, family-friendly cottage in Cornwall, located on the edge of the harbour at Golant near Tywardreath.

At high tide, the cottage is surrounded by water on three sides, with water views from every window and beautiful character throughout: an excellent base for a family or group of six's Cornish holiday, with two well-behaved dogs welcome!

Off-road parking makes arriving easy; step inside the kitchen to find everything you need for a self-catering stay, with a light-filled dining area to savour meals with your loved ones.

Snuggle up in front of the woodburning stove in the sitting area, which features a limestone-flagged floor, rugs, exposed beams and a TV for entertainment.

Alternatively, set yourself up in the delightful little study with a desk and a variety of books for some peace and quiet.

Spend summer evenings admiring your magnificent surroundings from the garden, which features a barbecue and seating area with river views and is conveniently enclosed for pets and children.

Climb the winding stairs to the first floor for views of the river moorings and Victorian railway embankment, where a stylish bathroom with sloped ceilings and beams welcomes you for a soothing bubble bath or a hot rinse in the shower.

Choose between a king-size with TV and a twin, while the master king-size is located up a separate set of stairs from the kitchen and features a TV, en-suite shower room, and a balcony for sunrise views with your morning coffee.

If you can drag yourself away from Island House, the Fishermans Arms is a lovely bar where you can relax and enjoy views of the estuary, and those looking for outdoor adventures can paddle board along the River Fowey!

Tywardreath, a hilltop town with superb pubs and shops, is a short drive away, while Fowey is further along the coast; meander through Fowey Museum, visit Fowey Aquarium, or explore Whitehouse Quay.

There are lots of sheltered, dog-friendly beaches along Cornwall's renowned coastline to spend relaxing days soaking up the sun and splashing in the surf; discover the likes of Readymoney Cove and Polridmouth Cove, alongside beautiful coastal walks for hikers to enjoy.

TYWARDREATH

Fowey 3.3 miles; St Austell 6.3 miles.

The pretty, historic Cornish village of Tywardreath, meaning ‘The House on the Strand’, lies in the heart of Daphne du Maurier country and features in her book of the same name. St Andrew’s, the village church, is said to have the best peal of bells in the area, while the village has a lively community, centred round its excellent pubs and range of shops. There are several safe, sandy beaches close to the village, with a variety of watersports and leisure activities available. Par, a small, china clay port with a dog friendly sandy beach is a fifteen minute walk from the village or 5 minutes in the car, home to a main line railway station. Polkerris Beach, a 30 minute walk or a 5 minute drive away, has a beachside restaurant, pub and watersports centre. The attractive waterside village of Fowey is just three miles away, from where there are some dramatic cliff walks to Gribbin Head, passing through much of du Maurier’s familiar landscape. There are many family attractions in the area, including Mevagissey and Charlestown harbours, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Tywardreath is a village that will appeal to families and those keen to explore the rich heritage and gorgeous coastline of South Cornwall.
