Leslie “Had everything you need, very clean, nice and quiet, liked recycling bins inside, enjoyable stay.”
Plenty of room, highly recommended.

Shulah “The place is very easy to get to and find … the bungalow very clean but is basic equipment in the kitchen.”
Swimming pool was occupied a lot and was being used by swimming school in the late afternoon. Cafe and restaurant is not open all the time and when was supposed to be open was closed for sick staff so can’t comment too much on the facility as we didn’t get to use it however the kids play area, courts and walking area was nice. Didn’t enjoy t walk to and from the car as you can’t park next to the property. But over all I would stay again for a cheap holiday away.

Fatemeh “Great location, and very kids friendly.”
Our stay was memorable. I highly recommend this location for stay if you want to relax and enjoy the nature.

Susan “Altogether lovely, good facilities, we enjoyed the warm pool and gym and the food at the stables cafe delicious.”
Relaxed atmosphere, with sensible ‘rules‘ friendly staff, quiet location , we could not ask for more!

Hayley “Another toilet fitted in the bathroom would be fab when 6 guests staying.”

Sue “What a lovely location for a short break!”
The setting for this property is outstanding and the woodland walk is a must. The property itself has everything you need and it's warm and comfortable. I have slightly marked down the cleanliness because there were lots of cobwebs which could have easily been removed before our arrival but they weren't a big issue for us. We would definitely consider staying again. Thank you!

April “Such a lovely peaceful weeks stay in mid March.”
The bungalows are well set up, warm and clean. (A lamp or two in the sitting room would have been cosier) The site is peaceful and very well maintained with an extensive network of walking tracks and paths through the ground which are on the doorstep when you feel like leaving the comfort of your bungalow. The pool is warm and clean and the cafe and games room a very useful addition (if the cafe were open before key pick up and drop off on Saturdays it would be nice to have a drink whilst waiting or before driving off). We would happily recommend this lovely site. Thank you all

Bob “If you are looking for a lovely chalet set in the Devon rolling countryside, then this might be what you are looking for.”
Its almost at the beach of the Exeter racecourse and you will need a car to explore the rest of Devon. Or you can just stay and enjoy what Harcombe has to offer. A nice cafe, a laundry facility, a swimming pool and great long walks (you need boots). Chalets are comfortable and very clean. Ive been many times !!

Roger “Very pleased with our stay here and knowing we supported The Fire Services Charity.”
Will be back soon. Roger.

Fiona “The location is superb.”
Whilst the bungalow was comfortable overall, we felt that there were a few things that need paying attention to. Despite the bungalow having been cleaned, we did end up vacuuming ourselves & asking for a suitable kitchen spray to clean up obvious spillage that had been missed. This wasn't a problem, just disappointing. The bungalow we stayed in is clearly in need of some maintenance. The toilet flush is very delicate & temperamental to say the least - we were glad that it did actually last the week! The cutlery drainer on the sink is rusty, the oven trays were mostly unusable, the carpet throughout is in need of either replacing or cleaning & the algae on the outside of the property does not add any appeal. We appreciate that we visited out of season, however it does not prevent us from noticing these things.

Lisa “We had a lovely week at Harcombe House bungalow 12.”
The bungalows are well equipped & very clean. Lunch in the stables cafe was excellent & good value & we enjoyed drinks in the bar most nights. I reported a couple of minor faults at reception & these were fixed while we were out on the same day. We will be back again as we had a lovely chilled week in beautiful surroundings and enjoyed exploring Devon.
- Lisa, October 2024 -
John “Very clean and well presented and equiped internally and bungalow appeared to have been recently refurbished.”
Outside showing signs of needing cleaning/repainting but no serious complaints. Minor problems include lack of any hooks to hang anything in both the shower room and the bathroom and a malfunctioning toaster but these were not major issues. Heating was not working correctly on arrival as several radiators including those in both toilet and bathroom were cold and unable to adjust , but these were promptly seen to and rectified when reported on the Monday morning following our arrival. Overall very satisfactory accommodation.

Kim “Very good, we said we would like one of these bungelows as a home!”
! plenty of space

Wendy “Great place on lovely quiet site but within half an hour of some lovely places to visit in Devon.”
- Wendy, September 2024 -
Julia “Have visited this property many , many times.”
Been holidaying and convalescing there since 1987. A wonderful location to rest and recuperate or be active too. It’s a really tranquil , peaceful location , just perfect. Bungalows are very clean , comfortable and well equipped. All the facilities on site are well maintained with friendly staff. We hope to be back there again next year.
- Julia, September 2024 -
Kenneth “This is a beautiful peaceful site which we have visited very many times over the years.”
The bungalow was very clean and comfortable. The shower hose was leaky which we reported but said we could manage with it for the duration of our stay but it would need replacing. The kitchen could have benefitted from an oven tray but otherwise it was fine. We look forward to our next visit to Harome.
- Kenneth, September 2024 -
Peter “I'm sure it's been reported many time before, that is the toilet is very very small otherwise the accommodation very good.”
Sadly the fishing was not so good, the area lacked maintenance and the fish non existent. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Loved the bungalow only downside its very tight in the loo the whole place was so nice and comfortable staff were very welcoming went to the stables cafe that was areal find with cake to die for looking forward to going again next year

Shirley “Although it said the property was deep cleaned I don’t think this was the case as there were a few places missed for example in the fridge.”
A little disappointed as I had a phone call to check details regarding check in etc and at the time I asked regarding having an evening meal in the restaurant and was told that I could but needed to tell reception by 12noon on the day. However when I asked the same question when we booked in was told that it was not possible as they were fully booked for the week. This was important knowing there was an on site restaurant when we booked and also being confirmed shortly before we arrived
- Shirley, September 2024 -
Lisa “Upon arrival, we instantly noticed how clean the property was, much to our delight.”
Finding a fresh carton of milk in addition to tea bags, coffee and sugar was definitely a lovely touch after a long journey. Everyone we met was lovely. The grounds were beautiful for a morning or evening walk. The cherry on the cake was definitely having a deer pass by your kitchen window every morning. Such precious memories made!!!
- Lisa, August 2024 -
Sarah “We loved the bungalow and the facilities, the pool was fabulous.”
Would have been great to have table tennis in the barn area where the air hockey was situated as it was in the gym and my boys were too young to enter. Also a sign just down from the public parking area to the cafe would be great, as I ended up turning down Stickend Lane which was a very narrow lane and added 40 mins on to our arrival and left me feeling very stressed.
- Sarah, August 2024 -
Lisa “Me and my daughter had a lovely time and my daughter is begging me to go back next year.”
I can't wait to visit again also. Everything was wonderful, can't fault anything. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one and we shall look forward to booking again.
- Lisa, August 2024 -
Jim “Great little place to stay.”
A very nice site, with tennis court, pool and area to play football. It's also very well located - easy to get to South Devon's beaches, up onto Dartmoor and into Exeter.
- Jim, August 2024 -
Mark “Pros: 1) Spotlessly clean throughout 2) Bed mattresses comfy; on the hard side, but that is my personal preference 3) Good location for short drives to Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot 4) Beautiful manor house and grounds 5) Very helpful and professional reception staff 6) Lovely, warm swimming pool 7) Plenty of very hot water and a decent enough shower (not electric shower which was nice).”
Cons: 1) No.7 is very much a bungalow in the middle and is extremely overlooked 2) Door into only loo opens inwards which makes entry and exit very difficult 3) Games room charges £1 or 50p to play each game every time. Is this really necessary after paying +£1000 for a week here?? 4) No dishwasher was disappointing especially as it's a holiday. 5) No private space outside (some bungalows might have some though - we didn't) 6) Only one small dishcloth to wash up with and wipe surfaces. We had to buy more sponges. On a similar theme only two rolls of toilet paper provided. We had to buy more. 7) Our sofa lent into the middle with people sat on it. Had to put two cushions under sofa seats in middle just to level it out. Not enough to bother reception about but a bit irritating.
- Mark, August 2024 -
Lucy “Need to provide full list of what’s in the kitchen.”
No chopping board is a bit extreme for self catering. Need to provide more cleaning things and hand soap. The signage on site is poor and doesn’t differentiate between wheelchair accessible routes and routes with stairs. Need to add signage for both with wheelchair and stair symbols. Friendly and helpful reception staff but they weren’t able to point out wheelchair accessible routes on the walking map of the grounds. That map needs to be updated with that information. The wheelchair roundabout in the children’s playground doesn’t work properly.
- Lucy, August 2024 -
Julie “Property was clean and spacious, beds were comfortable.”
The description of facilities needs to be more detailed as there isn't a restaurant, only a cafe during the daytime but not open all week. The bar is also open restricted times. The games room should either have pictures of what is actually in there or details of what is there. The gym isn't available for under 18s and the pool needs to be booked. Given that these are the criteria we look for when booking a property it wasn't ideal for us so maybe giving more detail would be better.
- Julie, August 2024 -
Mark “Very comfortable accommodation, with everything we needed, one small minor was that we'd ask that the plates/bowls cleanliness is checked, as several plates and bowls were not clean, otherwise it was brilliant.”
- Mark, August 2024 -
Sarah “We rally enjoyed our stay at the bungalow, it was well equipped and lovely.”
The staff were friendly and helpful. We will be recommending your bungalows to our friends.
- Sarah, August 2024 -
Chris “Pleasant enough location, the is well within reach of all the main parts of devon being located just off the main spine road.”
The front of desk staff at the main building did occasionally feel quite abrupt in their manner, never impolite, but it did feel like I was being told off rather than spoken with when getting information from them. Felt more like admin staff than reception staff so missing that customer focus approach in my interactions. Almost like i was being an inconvenience by asking simple questions like etiquette for the pool, facility open times. all that being said we wouldnt think twice about staying again, although I would probably look for a bungalow a bit closer to the facilities, this bungalow is up near the top of the hill.
- Chris, July 2024 -
Michael “Harcombe House number 11 bungalow The nursing home bed was definitely a big plus for my daughter.”
We had to bring covers for the sides as we were concerned that my daughter might get her feet stuck through the gap. The wet room was good and the shower chair was very useful. There were two bathrooms, yet only one toilet!! The listing clearly says 'washing machine'. We took that to mean a washing machine was present in the property. There isn't. Our daughter's condition is such that she produces a lot of washing meaning we spent about £40 in the Laundrette. The Laundrette on site is not level access. The swimming pool is lovely The Café on site produces good food. The area and grounds are stunning and are definitely worth a walk around. The part of Britain is stunning but expensive. Pennywell farm cost us nearly £100 to literally not feed the animals!! The highlight for us was a boat trip in Torbay. We took a totally accessible trip with 'Wet Wheels' to see seals, marine birds and Dolphins, what a sight and honour to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. All in all good accommodation, very clean, plenty of facilities an enjoyable holiday.

Jamie “What a find this place is!”
We have stayed here 3 times with the charity and decided to rent. The only small negative is the Tv. All other bungalows we have stopped have a more modern tv that is linked to WiFi unfortunately this one did not have that as I did try. We like to relax with a film on Netflix or Prime. Perhaps it’s due an upgrade soon? Never the less we will be back soon. Many thanks Jamie and Netty

As a former firefighter I stayed here for recovery after a operation back in October last year This time I returned with family for a holiday as I was so impressed the first time I would highly recommend anyone wanting to visit Devon to stay here it’s so peaceful & tranquil & within easy reach of all local towns & attractions Thank you for a fabulous stay & we will be returning again in the future

Collette “Was absolutely over the moon.”
Everything was so nice. The grounds, the bungalow. The people who work at Harcombe House were so friendly. Would definitely stay again. Well done to all.

Janet “Had a lovely holiday .”
Beautiful surroundings. great accommodation better than home would like to live there. Only one thing in the wet room a drop down seat would have been better as the shower chair did not work for me and a grab rail would be very helpful to. I did mention this to reception.
- Janet, June 2024 -
Roger “Although the bungalow was lovely the problem with the toilet door could do with being rectified.”
If you have difficulty in moving the squash to get in there is hard. Door needs to open out.
- Roger, June 2024 -
Linda “Lovely bungalow in a beautiful location.”
The only thing we missed ( very small but important) was salt and pepper! A few sachets or mills would have been appreciated.
- Linda, May 2024Thank you very much for your feedback, unfortunately we are unable to offer food as it is an self catering property. Property Owner

Helen “The bungalows have been refurbished and are fresh and clean with new furniture.”
The kitchen is good, though crockery and pots and pans are at a minimum and there is no dishwasher. The bathrooms have not been altered but the shower is efficient and hot water is plentiful. The toilet is compact! The biggest improvement would be having a king size bed in the main bedroom, a double is a very snug fit unless you are both very slim!!!! The location is good with extensive walking available from the accommodation. The pool was closed for maintenance during our stay, but we knew that. When open the pool is excellent.
- Helen, May 2024 -
Paul “Lovely setting.”
One of the points I would raise is the toilet access that other reviews also mention. We are both average build and had to turn sideways to squeeze in; people with poor mobility or large build would find it difficult. I could imagine excessively large people being unable to access at all. We were told during a courtesy call a few days before our holiday that Wi-Fi wasn’t good enough for streaming Netflix but I found occasional difficulty with even social media access. Another point was that the larger of the twin bedrooms (I imagine this is true for all or most of the bungalows) had no power-points on or near the headboard wall, hence no bedside lamp. Luckily, I always take a 3m extension lead with me so was able to use to place clock/radio/dock on small shelf between beds. Restaurant was closed for 2 of the 5 days it was supposed to be open.
- Paul, April 2024 -
Ian “Arrived at location to be told Swimming pool was not available.”
Arrived at cottage to find only one Bathroom not two as is clearly advertised in your description. We are most disappointed and feel some recompense should be made.
- Ian, April 2024Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that the pool was closed on your arrival due to a maintenance issue, we had to await a part to come in, this was fixed on the Monday and reopened. We have been in touch with Sykes Cottages and asked them to relook at the descriptions for bathrooms, this has now been done, we are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused yourselves. Nicola “Overall: We had a really lovely stay, there would be a few things I would like to see improved and give some more detail.”
and The carpet was hard to keep clean, the front door got stuck, and it was hard to get around with a wheelchair (it was possible but needed help). Also, all the light switches and heating control were too high. Wet room/Bathroom: A wheelchair user cannot reach the wet room light as it is too high and needs replacing. The brakes on the shower chair didn't work. Also, there was no emergency cord, and due to all doors being fire doors, shouting out for help and being heard was difficult and therefore unsafe. The only way to reach the wet room sink was by sitting on the toilet and reaching over. There were handrails around the toilet but none around the shower. You would only need to walk a few steps to access the bathroom. Living space: The sofas were low and made transfers difficult, I was able to stay in my wheelchair and sit at the dining table. It was easy to move the furniture to make it easier to move around the room. Kitchen: The kitchen is not wheelchair accessible as it is too small and not adapted. Bedrooms: The sidebars of the profiling bed make transfers hard, we took a banana board which solved the problem. Also, there was no lamp in this room (which we solved by moving one from another room) There is only 1 accessible bedroom, if you were an ambulatory wheelchair user the other bedrooms would be suitable. Outside: There is no ramp from the back door to the patio but there is a path which goes all the way around the property. The parking bay has loose stones which was fine with my powerchair but could be a struggle for a manual user. We were given maps for some local walks but couldn't find a wheelchair-accessible route, which was a shame. If a route is available, can it be added to the welcome pack? There would have been a few nights when we would have liked the onsite bar to provide food at night.
- Nicola, April 2024Thank you very much for your feedback we much appreciate this. On Sykes description the bungalow is down as accessible, with pictures provided. As the bungalows were built in the early 70s they have not been updated to disabled friendly for someone in a wheelchair, we appreciate the feedback and will have a look into this, if you decide to book again then please let us know and we can see how we can assist you on your stay. Thomas “Lovely clean bungalow.”
More spacious than it looks on the Internet. Pool facilities were lovely. Would recommend highly.
- Thomas, April 2024 -
Richard “We have stayed at Harcombe many times in the past but this is our first stay for many years now that dogs are allowed.”
This is a welcome step for our family and means we can revisit and can continue to support the FFC. The accommodation is simple but clean, beds are comfortable and you have everything you need. The site offers plenty to keep adults and children occupied. Really recommend this location and we will return.
- Richard, March 2024 -
Nathalie “Only fault was in the kitchen!”
No casserole dishes to cook with, nor a very well equipped kitchen for a party of 6 and there was only 4 of us! We really struggled with not having enough large bowels ( only one) for keeping leftover food. The casserole dish is a must have! We stayed In the exact sane bungalow the year before and it catered well.. other than that it was a wonderful stay as always.
- Nathalie, March 2024Thank you for your feedback, we will pass this onto housekeeping to have a casserole dish put into this bungalow. Property Owner

Ruth “We had a lovely stay at Harcombe House.”
The bungalow is in a very peaceful location and we enjoyed the swimming pool, games room, playground and tennis courts - everything was clean and well maintained. The bungalow was spacious and clean. However, we would prefer if it had a dishwasher and curtains in the bedrooms (the vertical blinds let in loads of light).
- Ruth, March 2024 -
shirley “I have stayed in Bungalow 12 at Harcombe regularly over the past 30 years and it is like coming home!”
Only two points that need attention. The handrail fitted on the wall for the bath is on the wrong wall for use to get in or out of the bath because of the glass screen. If it was on the wall at the other end of the bath near the door it would be better. Also a hook on the door for dressing gown etc. secondly if it was possible to fit a sliding door to the toilet, it would make access so very much easier ! It is quite a work of art to use that facility!
- shirley, March 2024 -
David “Everything was as advertised comfy beds , spacious comfortable suite.”
Would certainly recommend to friends Site was very quiet Didn’t use facilities so can’t comment but walked around site and swimming pool looked very clean and well managed
- David, March 2024 -
Angela “Everything in the property was perfect apart from the toilet, it was a very tight squeeze to get into and out of the room.”
Apart from that, the bungalow was cosy, comfortable and clean. Would stay there again, had a wonderful holiday.
- Angela, March 2024 -
Helena “The sink in the wet room is to small.”
It should be large enough for a wheelchair user to fit underneath. There should be a ramp from the patio door to the patio area not a step. The electric bed should be of hospital spec as it does not lift up far enough to allow the carer ease of dressing. Also the side bars of the bed interfere with the ease of patient transfer. The flooring in the hall and lounge should be a hard material, not carpet. This would allow ease of wheelchair mobility. It would also enable ease of cleaning, especially in wet weather.
- Helena, March 2024 -
Bob “The chalet is lovely and the views are wonderful.”
Nice and peaceful. Fellow guests keep themselves to themselves. I did not use the restaurant, or use the washing facilities (did a bit in house washing and placed on the rads. Chalet nice and warm. Comfy beds. There is a cafe which is very nice, the cakes were very good. Too wet for walks which are available. Good footwear required. You do need a car to get around and visit places, it is tucked away just off the A38. I found the best access off the top of the hill beside the Haldon Services. Single tracks so be prepared to reverse if you come across another car. Its my multi trip to Harcombe House which says it all really!
- Bob, February 2024 -
Roger “Well pleased with the holiday property and knowing I am supporting the Fire Service Charity.”
- Roger, November 2023 -
John “Thoroughly enjoyed the week in the bungalow it’s the second time all was good , except a maintenance man just turned up and explained he was changing the Electric box , so therefore the Electric would be off for a couple of hours , just as we started to cooking breakfast , he did say he would wait until we had finished cooking which made us feel rushed , this could have been sorted better if we had known he was attending that day , also the property was left open after he had finished .”
Otherwise as before we have no problem with the property and the surrounding ding area , lots of great walks and amenities, we will be back all 6 of us . Thanks again …
- John, October 2023Thank you very much for your feedback, we are sorry you were not informed before the day that the contractor was doing electrical work, we will endeavour to make sure that this is done before people arrival, as you can appreciate the works had to be done. Again thank you for your feedback and look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

Sarah “We originally stayed in Bungalow 12 at Harcombe and loved it so much that we booked a second week in Bungalow 5.”
The property was spacious clean and comfortable. The overall site was amazing and we walked for miles through the grounds. The staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful too.
- Sarah, October 2023 -

William “Have stayed in the bungalows 4 or 5 times now and it is obvious a lot of work has been carried out to improve and update the properties in the past few years.”
The results are amazing and we would give a 5 star rating for sure! Many thanks.

Julie “The whole booking process was very simple.”
The cottage was lovely, clean and comfortable and in a lovely setting. It suited us very well.

Gail “We had a very good week staying in bungalow 11.”
The place was spotlessly clean and we had all the comforts of home provided. We used the cafe, restaurant and the swimming pool which were all wheelchair accessible. The whole place was very quiet and restful. I went for some lovely walks around the estate in woods and fields, using the map provided. There are three suggestions for improvements. The first is that my husband was unable to exit the hospital bed on the first morning. This was because the mattress was lower than the dropped wooden bed rail, meaning he couldn't put his feet to the floor without pain. I rectified this by putting one of the twin room mattresses on top of the one provided on the hospital bed. The second was that the chairs in the lounge were too low for a wheelchair user. Again this was solved by stacking two sofa cushions on top of each other which made access much easier. Lastly the shower chair provided in the wet room was extremely low for a man and it was difficult to push due to the rusted up wheels. Once we got used to the adjustments that I had to make, we had a good holiday.
- Gail, October 2023 -
Sara “Really lovely site with lots to do in the area.”
- Sara, October 2023 -
Richard “For a disabled person bungalow 11 is perfect in every way 10 out of 10 brilliant.”
Note.. my only concern would be the parking bay are loose stones could be a difficult for wheelchair users and some on crutches because of the slope that runs down. This is the only thing about Harcombe house.
- Richard, September 2023 -
Neil “The Bungalows are spacious, warm, well equipped and comfortable.”
Ours was showing signs of wear eg exterior cracks and flaking paintwork, interior - cracks and flaking paintwork in the main bedroom, some stains on furniture and carpets. The worst feature is the design of the separate toilet, the door opens inwards and there is barely enough room to close it behind you - or open it afterwards ( almost have to stand on the toilet) ; they should open outwards. This was our third visit and I'm sure we'll be back !
- Neil, September 2023 -
John “Very clean, with all crockery etc.”
provided. We did not need to provide anything we would usually use that was not provided. Beds and furniture very comfortable, bed linen clean and towels were a good size.
- John, September 2023 -
Lucy “This bungalow is not suitable for the elderly or infirm, and this should be stated in the information.”
The parking space has a very deep kerb to mount when exiting, and is up a hill from the property, with nowhere to unload near the bungalow. This definitely spoilt the beginning and end of our holiday, as it was very heavy rain, and all our luggage and supplies got soaked, as did we. It was impossible to clean when leaving, as nothing in the way of sprays for bath, toilet, floors, or kitchen were provided. Also, although tea, coffee, milk and sugar were kindly provided, there was no coffee pot, no chopping board, and no salt andpepper - all usually provided in all the many self-catering properties I've stayed in over the years. Such a shame, as the bedrooms and living areas were beautiful with impeccable linen.
- Lucy, September 2023 -
Anne “Very basic.”
No extra pots and pans. No games or books if you take children. No leaflets of what you can do in the area. No instructions for anything. No visitors book. The water came in through the ceiling which had obviously been leaking for a while as there were wet patches on ceiling. The windows whistled in the wind. Saying that the property was very clean and comfortable as there were just two of us but would not want to go with a family.
- Anne, September 2023 -
Jennifer “It would be nice to have bedside lamps in all the rooms.”
One 2 bed room had one on an extension lead and the other had none. Mains double bed room was fine. Cooker/hob needed a clean and blinds were broken.
- Jennifer, September 2023 -
Sue “The bungalow was modern clean and comfortable.”
We particularly appreciated the furniture, carpeting and decor which was very homely and welcoming. We loved the peace and quiet, the beautiful grounds and the warm swimming pool. The only disappointment was the poor wifi connection. We always like to stream movies when we are away but this was just not possible using the wifi at the bungalow. We visit Devon every three months and would definitely use Harcombe as our regular go to accommodation if the wifi was upgraded.
- Sue, September 2023 -
G “Toilet very small and not painted pipe work around sink area, lack of finishing touches ie parasol for garden furniture,”
- G, September 2023 -
Barry “Nothing wrong with the accommodation itself, a bit overpriced, with no discount for fire service personnel.”
However the general facilities at Harcombe House very poor. Nothing open on arrival, cafe, bar or restaurant ,very disappointed.and when opened restricted times apply, I do not believe that this is yet a good commercial business, needs complete overhaul. Restaurant poor, more like a monks dining room! Sorry but would not book again.

John “This is a wonderful venue for a quiet relaxing holiday.”
Nice walks around the site with gardens and lakeside/forest walks. Cafe and bar onsite with good food and drinks, if a little expensive. Village of Chudleigh is a short drive away with a number of fast food outlets and a Spar and Co-op. Seaside towns easily accessible and just a short drive into the City of Exeter. Would we book there again, probably.

The property was nice and clean, my only little gripe would be the large leak in the roof by the dining table that was dripping all the time we were there

Anthony “An extremely quiet and relaxing holiday.”
Well maintained gardens and quiet walks round the lakes. Recommended.

Lino “Very pleased with the facilities offered.”
A cork screw would have helped. Otherwise, would book again.

Margaret “Lovely rural retreat.”
A second cloakroom would have been appreciated as there were 5 adults and 2 children!!
- Margaret, August 2023 -
Alan “The property is excellent, clean, comfortable and in a wonderful location.”
The reception staff on site are very friendly and helpful. The only downside which I have seen in other reviews is the toilet is so small that even children have difficulty in getting in and out. For health and safety reasons this needs to be looked at urgently !!! If anyone suffered any kind of emergency, no one would be able to get in through the door without using an electric saw. A simple solution would be to reverse the door hinges and wooden stays so that the door opened outwards.
- Alan, August 2023Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you were happy with the property. We are aware that the toilet is on the small side and will certainly consider your suggestion or reversing the door hinges so there is more space. Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

Emily “Super comfy beds, good quality bedding and pillows (also immaculate when I stripped them at the end of the week).”
Had everything we needed and a great location. Pool was immaculate and good system in place to not be overcrowded. Overall really happy (family 2 adults 3 children). Park has a fab view we had a picnic down there while the kids played. Would highly recommend

Lawrence “One of the best holiday locations and properties we have ever stayed in.”
- Lawrence, August 2023 -
Theresa “Very clean, very spacious, lovely pool never to busy.”
Need a car to explore as no where near to walk to. Coffee shop very reasonably priced cakes and coffee lovely. Didn't eat there in the evenings so can't comment on the evening menu. Games room with Air hockey and table football. Views are amazing.
- Theresa, August 2023 -
Katherine “We have stayed here a few times when it was run by The Firefighters Charity and was a lot cheaper.”
There was a few things that could be improved. There was no bins in either the toilet or the bathroom. No lamps in the living room or two of the bedrooms. There was no information packs in the property. Also the grass outside the property was overgrown. If these things were improved we would likely stay here again.
- Katherine, July 2023 -
Peter “Nice quiet location.”
Small play area for young children. Tennis court and games room with table football and air hockey. Cafe and bar(opening days and times are limited) access to fishing lake. Nice size bungalow and moderately equipped. Good base for exploring the Torbay, Dartmoor area. Best approach is from the A38 as per instructions unless you enjoy lots of bumpy single track roads.

Beverley “We enjoyed our stay at 10 Harcombe Cottage, the surroundings were great, well maintained, quiet and good opportunity to relax.”
The cottage was clean and had the essentials, I did miss not having a dish washer. Our beds were comfortable so had a good night sleep. however I missed not having a long mirror in our room and hooks on the back of doors to hang things up especially in the bed room and bath room. there were no bins in the bed rooms, bathroom or toilet area. the toilet was separate from the bathroom and the toilet space was extremely small. The carpet in the lounge was thread bear in areas near the sofa by the window. We had an unexpected visit from a gas engineer who wanted to check the central heating and this would last for approximately 30mins. We were not informed of this prior to our stay or at the time we collected the keys, so the engineer came the following day. We felt this could have been done before our arrival or after we had left as it meant we had to stay in for the engineer who arrived at 11am the following day . other than that enjoyed our break. Bev ( Wolverhampton)

Patricia “Enjoyable week in Devon.”
Lovely woodland walks, near Dartmoor & the coast. Quiet location & my husband enjoyed the pool . Comfortable accommodation & pleasant staff around the site
- Patricia, July 2023 -
David “The bungalow was comfortable, but not as well equipped as many properties.”
No facilities to brew coffee at all, and as we don't drink tea....! We bought a cafetiere. Fortunately there was only myself and my disabled wife, but had the property been fully occupied by a family of 5, the cutlery, crockery and kitchen equipment would have been barely sufficient. There is an accessible full wet room and a second bathroom, but the only toilet is in the wet room. On our final evening we had an small invasion of ants and flying ants, but they were swiftly dealt with when reported to Reception.

Peaceful and quiet lovely walks and good fishing lakes.swimming pool looked lovely we did not get time to use it .lane up to the reception very narrow and busy .grounds the properties are set in are really beautiful .highly recommend harcombe house in chudleigh .

Ruth “Bathroom facilities not really suitable for 6 people.”
Fortunately we were usually just 3 or 4 of us. As staying two weeks fresh towels/bedding would have been nice. The location is fabulous and the staff on reception extremely friendly and welcoming.
- Ruth, June 2023Thank you for your feedback, if you had asked at reception we would have happily given you clean bedding and towels for your 2nd week, hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Ricky “Harcombe House is a fantastic location providing peace and quiet with beautiful countryside views.”
The bungalow was immaculately clean, light and spacious and comfortable. A fantastic cafe/bar providing lovely cakes and food. There is a lovely pool, tennis court, childrens play area available along with good countryside walks. All of the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Being a firefighters charity premises providing support and rehabilitation just adds to how special this place is. I am already looking to book again. Thank you for such a relaxing holiday. P.S As a fire Officer, the fire safety standards on site are "Gold" standard.
- Ricky, June 2023Thank you very much for your lovely feedback Property Owner

Nigel “Positive points Very Clean inside and out.”
Good standard of accomodation. Great views. Negative points Poor directions from A38. Turn left at the BP garage, THERE ISNT ONE ITS A TEXACO. Wasted a lot of time on this. better directions once in the land. Nothing mentioned about the reception area through the arch way. Needs more grab handels in the bath area. No shelf. Toilet very very small, door almost touches the pan. You have to have the door open all the time. Kitchen needed more unensiles. Poorly equiped

Steve “A really lovely bungalow, very comfortable and the setting is beautiful, we’ll definitely return.”
- Steve, June 2023 -
Vivienne “A vert comfortable spacious holiday home.”
Comfortable beds which is very important. Very peaceful setting with beautiful views we were in bungalow 6. The pool was lovely and warm and the limit put on the people at one time works well.. Chudleigh only a couple of miles away with a co op for your grocery stock needs
- Vivienne, June 2023 -
Hilary “The cleanliness and general condition was excellent.”
However, there were a few problems which would make me think twice about visiting again, which is a shame, since the location and general facilities are very good. Your website listing stated two toilets, but I was contacted after booking to say there was only one. For potentially six adults, this was inconvenient. The one twin room contained a bed with drop sides, which would be great for a disabled person, but the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Also for the first 5 days of our holiday there was no internet. If we’d known the internet was patchy, in advance, we would have downloaded books to read etc prior to arrival.
- Hilary, June 2023 -
Barbara “We really enjoyed our stay at Harcombe house.”
The bungalow was beautiful and clean and access from car to bungalow was good for a wheelchair. The gardens and views were stunning we would definitely recommend to anyone
- Barbara, June 2023 -
Duncan “We liked the view across the field as we had a young child with us who liked watching the tractors working.”
- Duncan, May 2023 -
Jacqueline “The bungalow was very comfortable but the toilet was so small that even I at 5f2inches and slight had a job getting in and out of the toilet.”
The door opens inwards so you have to squeeze between the toilet and basin to get in and open the door to its widest point to squeeze out. Anyone overweight and tall would not be able to use these facilities. The storage room next door was twice this size at least so would have been much more suitable. Toilet roll holder and towel roll holder were also broken.also a few more kitchen utensils and another frying pan would have been much appreciated. A truly lovely site friendly staff lovely pool and very peaceful. L,

Daniel “The location is absolutely stunning, with the right amount of facilities and amenities.”
The only thing that would have been helpful would have been a small on-site shop to buy essentials, but that's a minor point. The facilities for families was great, but the site still stayed quiet and private - the balance was perfect. Would have been great to have earlier / later options for the pool, but I get that there are reasons why that's not viable. The accommodation was wonderful, and amazingly clean. A bit bright in the mornings as the blinds did not block all the light, but again this is a minor gripe. Overall we felt it was one of the best places we'd stayed in more than 10 years of annually holidaying in Devon.
- Daniel, May 2023 -
Jacqui “Really enjoyed our stay, very relaxing and peaceful.”
We did a two of the walks, blue and brown, although there had been a couple of weeks of dry weather some of the parts of the walk were a bit muddy so wear appropriate footwear
- Jacqui, May 2023 -
Donna “The stay was wonderful, the bungalows, grounds and facilities were incredible and the staff team was helpful.”
This is a relaxing, mindful place to stay with easy routes to visit Devon. Bungalow 11 is fully accessible but only the double bedroom has space for a wheelchair or mobility aid, the twin room has very little room to move. Bear this in mind if booking as a family. The kitchen and lounge space is spotlessly clean and easy to manoeuvre around on a mobility scooter. The hoist in the pool is simple to use and the water is warm enough for a disabled person to relax in. All in all, this is a perfect place to stay as a family or with elderly parents as I did. Plus, your stay helps support The Firefighters Charity, win win.

Gian Paola “We loved our stay in Harcombe.”
Beautiful surroundings, spotless facilities, kind and effective service. firefighters deserve all our support, anywhere! keep the good job up
- Gian Paola, May 2023 -
Jeff “Brilliant place, been before, maybe 20 years ago but these bungalows have been seriously upgraded.”
Very comfortable beds and living room seating. Only complaint, though not very serious, is the WiFi which is poor a lot of the time. The area is beautiful, especially Lyme Regis and the Jurassic coast.
- Jeff, April 2023 -
Pete “Really enjoyed our stay.”
The accomodations was comfortable and well appointed. Only one suggestion would be an additional toilet which would easily fit in the bathroom. 1 toilet when 6 people can stay is pushing it. The small toilet room needs redesign. If an older person fell you would not be able to open the door to help them. Sliding door or opening outwards would be advisable.
- Pete, April 2023 -
Sue “We booked this property as it said it was easy access.”
From looking at the photos, it seemed ideal. It may have been ideal for people in wheelchairs but it was not ideal for those with some mobility. It could have been so much better if in the wet room there were some simple handrails to hold on to around the shower. In the bedroom was a single hospital bed that moved to help you out. It also had bars to keep you from falling out. We had to remove the bars so my Mum (84) could physically get onto the bed. Because the bed had a plastic cover over the mattress, she became too hot, was unable to move herself as the bed was a single and not wide enough, and by the end of the week had bedsores and very tired from lack of sleep. It was a real shame that a wider bed was not available for us to book. In her bedroom, the main light could only be switched on /off by the door which meant she had to try and get into bed, with the aforementioned troubles in the dark. Please put a pull light switch near the bed. It would have been do much better if plug sockets were higher in that room and that there was a bedside table available. We ended up using one of the chairs from the dining table. Aside from the problems for someone with mobility issues, we did find some of the equipment in the kitchen rather restrictive. For a property that could accommodate 6, the saucepans needed to be much bigger and there were literally 6 plates and 6 dishes. It would have been better if we knew to bring even the smallest things such as salt and pepper. On the notes, we were asked to leave the property in the way we had found it. No problem with that request. The property was immaculate when we arrived, but if you make those expectations, please provide us with more cleaning equipment than one J-cloth and washing up liquid rather than us having to go out and buy them OR let us know that we need to bring these things. This all sounds quite negative and it is not meant to be. It was just a few things which if you were able to book alternatives could have made the whole experience much easier and nicer. The place was modern and comfortable. Mum would have preferred a more suitable chair in the living room, but she was able to sit on the armchair without too much effort to get herself out of it. We didn't try the cafe or the swimming pool, again let people know it is closed Friday mornings for maintenance. We would book the property again, if those issues for Mum could be addressed. I appreciated the phone call a few days before arriving which gave us some extra info, but please offer my suggestions and let people know exactly what to expect. I do hope you find these points constructive and are able to implement my suggestions.

Sambath “It would be helpful if you could extend the pool usage hours, at least during the summer.”
. 9 am to 4 pm is not convenient for everyone
- Sambath, April 2023 -
Alison “A really relaxing, clean and comfortable house.”
The location is just beautiful, wooded walks on the doorstep and so quiet and peaceful. Not too far a drive from lovely small towns and villages or all the shopping you could need in Exeter. Dartmouth via the moving bridge from Kingswear was a highlight of the week. Overall an excellent stay. A couple of tips; bring some extra tea towels and small bin bags, only one big bin in the kitchen.
- Alison, April 2023 -
Barbara “The property was advertised with a cloakroom with loo and sink.”
This did not exist. One of the reasons for booking was that there were two loos and as there were 6 of us, only having one was not suitable. The website needs updating to accurately reflect the facilities. There weren’t any bins in the wet room and shower room and a shelf in the wet room would have been useful, especially for people like myself with mobility issues. Apart from that , everything else was fine. Lovely location and great facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Barbara, April 2023 -
Esme “Lovely to see the bungalows have been modernised, shame the toilet is still so small.”
At 7 months pregnant I struggled to get in to the room! Hope that over time the cafe will be available at the weekends too

Susanne “A lovely, comfortable, well equipped bungalow.”
Friendly staff. Will definitely be back again.
- Susanne, March 2023 -
Gerry “Excellent cafe on site.”
Great situation for walks both short and long. Accessible facilities good and will be better when trail round lake is finished. Woodland area wonderful with many spring flowers beginning to show, also inviting exploration. Play area for children on site looked good and safe.
- Gerry, March 2023 -
Jocelyn “Accommodation overly minimalistic and not very warm.”
Wish we had realised that we would even need to purchase salt and pepper. Expensive for what it was and we were very happy to find ourselves in very comfortable pub accommodation the night after we left, for less money with a lovely breakfast included.
- Jocelyn, January 2023 -
J “A very comfortable and well equipped bungalow.”
Fantastic staff on site. All were helpful towards us in difficult circumstances, my husband having mobility problems at the time. Harcombe House is perfect for anyone wanting lovely quiet countryside walks with a very high chance of seeing wildlife, particularly deer. The Stables cafe was a real bonus with good coffee and cakes. We didn’t have lunch but people who did were obviously enjoying their meals. Again, great staff.
- J, November 2022 -
Joanne “The bungalow was exactly what we expected.”
It is in a peaceful and picturesque setting, providing a great nights sleep. The furniture is modern and comfortable and the decor neutral. Having an indoor pool on site was great and booking in to use it was straight forward. The pool itself was clean and well maintained as well as nice and warm. The whole site is extremely well looked after and super clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. It was a great base for getting further afield and I would highly recommend staying here.
- Joanne, October 2022 -
Richard “We enjoyed a lovely week, thank you.”
