“Really lovely property.”

No tat anywhere, everything quality. Beds very comfortable. Amazing views from the house and garden. Superb for dogs as fields all round. Ideal for a relaxing chilled out few days. There is absolutely nothing anyone could find fault with.

“We enjoyed Mabel’s view, the surrounding countryside and Mabel herself !”

! Generally, the cottage was smaller than we thought it would be. Kitchen area very tight and workspace small even with the hob cover in place. Cushions outside and parasol would have been nice, particularly in the v warm weather. The patio area could have been tidier and weeds were very much in abundance . Although not essential, a washing machine would have been useful for a two week stay. The two sofas were uncomfortable and difficult to relax upon. On a plus note, the small bathroom was well appointed, and shower excellent. John was very helpful although a change of bedding wasn’t on offer. Thanks to John for nice ‘goodies’, and we thought the world of Mabel. Parking was good.

“We had a lovely week in Mabel's View at East Allington in March, with a warm welcome through unusually sunny weather and the owner John greeting us and explaining the heating etc.”

He introduced his dog Mabel to our two dogs and showed where the safe sheep-free field was for exercise and play. It was a clean, well equipped bungalow with marvellous views across the country fields. Everything you could possibly need was there, with tasty food items and teabags and milk for a welcome cup of tea. Even treats for the dogs! The beds were very comfortable and the shower was powerful and easy to use. It was a very peaceful and pleasant place to stay, with interesting places to visit all around in beautiful Devon.

“Loved the cottage and venue.”

Appreciated the lovely food and toiletries left by the owner. Great garden and dog walking field for Tippy. Soon got used to reverse parking and reversing uphill in single track roads! Comfy bed and great shower. Would appreciate hooks on the back of all the doors. Kitchen very well equipped. If possible it would make life easier with more sockets! I needed instructions for the TV! Might be useful to inform visitors that some car parks only take cash or a complicated phone app! No cards accepted! If you want peace and quiet this is for you. Lovely beaches close by. Torcross was my favourite with the nature reserve as well and plenty of food options. Definitely recommend.

Great shower and comfy sofas too. We did run out of hot water one day - after alot of washing up after a roast, there wasnt enough for both of us to shower. The kitchen space was very well equipped. A lovely spot for a country escape, Thank you!

“We had a lovely 5 days at Mabel's View.”

We loved the view and the use of the big field for our dog. The owners kindly left us some croissants, butter, milk and jams which was lovely and much appreciated. The bed was very comfy with good pillows. I always bring my own pillow as so often pillows are not very comfy but I didn't need to use my own here. My only slight negative is that there was only one proper wine glass and one beer glass. Maybe they've got broken and not been replaced. We would definitely return. Thank you.

“Mabels view is simply a secret peaceful location.”

Peaceful is one word I would use to describe this property. The surroundings are very natural and the tweets of birds in the trees and hedges around you will have you guessing on types flying in and out of here. Lots of wild life and the light free pollution of the clear nights will have no problem seeing the milky way and not many places have this anymore. The property has a great shower also superfast wifi. Mabels view is down to earth and not the Savoy Hotel. It's a wonderful place hidden by narrow country lanes.The owners are great welcoming people and the touch of eggs, butter, milk and more left for you on arrival just adds to the hospitality. Finally there is a great pub nearby the Fortescue Arms that do great evening meals using local produce and are independently run but you need to book in advance as we found out.

Nice quiet secluded position but well placed for South Hams and Dartmoor. Thank you for the croissants, jam , milk, butter and eggs. Owners very friendly as was Mabel the dog who visited us daily and got on well with our own dog. Will definitely come again and look forward to it

“The best thing about the property is its location, the view from there is beautiful.”

We were very lucky with the weather and visited all the amazing places in the area. The property itself is basic and quite dated. It was comfortable and the shower was excellent. The landlord was very pleasant and helpful, whilst Mabel herself was undoubtedly the star of the show.

“Well this property certainly has a view that cannot be paralleled.”

Wonderful! I spent a wonderful peaceful few weeks here and at their other property ‘The Barn’ and I will definitely be returning. The properties had everything I needed and I was able to work from there also as it had Superfast Broadband. Also loved the Smart TV. A wonderful scenic area ideal for dogs. The owners were wonderful. Never interfering but there at a moments notice if I needed help. I couldn’t recommend these properties more highly.

“This is a lovely quiet spot, where we have enjoyed the company of helpful hosts.”

Our dog had access to lots of space to stretch his legs, too. Mabel's View has all you could want of need for self-catering, but there are also many pubs, cafes and restaurants within 10 miles where excellent food is available (the fish and chips in Dartmouth are to die for!).

“Lovely little cottage, everything spotlessly clean and well maintained.”

The welcome pack had everything we could possibly want - just as well, nearest shop is 4 miles away! Jon and Anthea are wonderful hosts, and Mabel herself (a very friendly Clumber Spaniel) couldn’t have been more welcoming. The local lanes can test the brakes and reversing skills, but you soon get used to them! We really enjoyed the week and may well have a return visit.

“Hosts were super helpful when we had a small car accident.”

The croissants, butter, milk, dog treats and towels were very very appreciated. It is very rural around the area so if you don’t like winding single track lanes then this is not for you, we however loved it, and the silence. Mabel’s greeting in the morning and evening was a welcome treat, what an absolute sweetie.

Mabel’s view is on a quiet farm. To get there there are a lot of single track roads and this maybe off putting for some drivers. You definitely need a car to get around as there is very little in walking distance. The owner was really welcoming and helpful with directions etc. The cottage was spotless and well equipped even providing towels for the dog should you need them. I would have no hesitation recommending this property.

“We had an excellent stay at Mabel's View.”

However, the initial information given by Sykes Cottages is that it is a detached barn conversion whereas it is, in fact, attached to the owner's own property - this information is given in the finer details, and caused no problems as John was extremely welcoming and helpful. The property is fine for two people but we would consider it would be very cramped with any more. If one needed to pull the dining table out to seat more than two people one would not be able to move around the kitchen dining space with any ease. The property was in excellent condition and the beds were extremely comfortable. The shower would benefit from having a grab rail fitted for safety's sake and more serving dishes of various sizes would have been useful for catering purposes. The cottage is extremely isolated so very peaceful but travelling along the narrow Devon lanes is quite a challenge! It is advisable therefore to take as many provisions as one can as getting even to East Allington is not a 'simple trip down the road'. The ability to use an Ordnance Survey would be advantageous (there was one in the cottage)! We would thoroughly recommend Mabel's View for those who want peace, tranquility and a gentle-paced holiday.

The lovely little village of East Allington lies in the South Hams district of South Devon.
