The property has high quality comforts, such as a very comfy and well looked after sofa in lounge, very comfy beds and pillows, high-quality linen, modern bathrooms and kitchen facilities. The areas that letter down for us, included the access to the property; which although it stated‘ resembles a country lane’ on the property listing with a photo, I believe this doesn’t reflect the initial severity of the lane, making it more suitable for a SUV or vehicle that is larger than a small / small family car such as ours. It was extremely difficult terrain, rather steep and some extremely large pot holes. When we arrived, we arrived much later than expected which was totally out of our control. We had aimed to get there for 6pm, but due to accidents on the M5 we arrived at 9.15pm and the property was extremely challenging to find in the dark, as there was no clear signage at the property, or even a name on the gate at all. So we had to use the torches on our phone, in the dark to check if the property looked like the photo of the front of the house on our phones. This was very scary in the depth of darkness in a wooded area with a newborn baby. Upon our arrival the outdoor lights didn’t work, which I was extremely upset about, as I when I reached out to the owner, they said the lights didn’t work and that a torch was provided instead. This is not safe for myself with a newborn baby, and put us at risk; if I was advised of such an issue (which they were aware of at the point of us making the booking) I should have been informed ahead of our arrival. I would not have booked this property due to how rural and dark the area is with a newborn baby, if I had been informed. The property is beautiful and the period features have been well preserved, however the overall house is lacking attention to detail. There are lots of plaster marks, mismatched paint patch ups, extremely noisy doors which isn’t good with a newborn (a bit of WD40 would solve), the door latches are not well matched, and are rather difficult to lock, there was a mirror missing in the twin bedroom, and one of the blinds were broken in the lounge. For the high price tag, I would have expected a little more attention to detail. I cannot fault the access to Dartmoor with the dog, who loved her stay in the impressive kitchen, and met lots of dogs and ponies out on the hills. Some spectacular views and rural scenery - just some further property management details to iron out to make perfect for future guests.

Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and had lovely weather to enjoy all that Dartmoor has to offer . Thank you for your comments . The property is listed and pictured as a rural retreat and approached by a country lane . We have supplied a what3words for the house as well as directions. We note your comment and will provide a house name on the gate for visibility. As the property is situated in the national park, we work closely with the authorities to protect nocturnal wildlife. I can confirm there is a working PIR above the front door which comes on , on approach. A regular maintenance team will address internal issues, these are focused around a recent addition of a kitchen fire door to enhance guest safety. The country lane approach is beyond our sole control but worth the effort as it provides the privacy views and access to the moor that you highlighted and enjoyed. Property Owner

About the location

HORRABRIDGE

Tavistock 4.5 miles; Plymouth 11.5 miles.

Horrabridge is a charming riverside village located within beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Walkham, well known for its salmon fishing, flows vigorously under the village bridge, which is said to be the oldest in West Devon. An excellent base for a holiday in Devon, Horrabridge has a combination of olde-worlde charm and modern facilities, including a good pub near the river and a selection of small shops. There are many excellent walks starting from the village, taking you up onto Dartmoor and providing you with glorious views of the surrounding fields and hills where sheep and Dartmoor ponies gently graze. The market town of Tavistock, the main town of Dartmoor's western moor, is an exceptionally attractive town, owing much to fine Victorian architecture and its picturesque location on the banks of the River Tavy. There is no shortage of shops and cafes in Tavistock, plus the town is home to the purpose built Pannier Market - a must for every visitor.
