“I was due to stay at Sunnymead Cottage in Devon for a week from Saturday 12th July 2026.”

On arrival at the cottage it was immediately apparent that the property had not been prepared to the standard we would normally expect from a Sykes property. A property information pack was not provided neither was a wi-fi code. We were unable to contact the owner on either of the numbers provided. After contacting Sykes Customer Services the owner came to the property but was unable/unwilling to provide a solution to our concerns. The property had not been cleaned properly, both the upstairs bathrooms needed the hand basins and toilets cleaning, there was dried urine splashes on both toilets and the shower cubicle had pubic hairs in it! My wife cleaned both upstairs bathrooms before I could take any photos. The beds did not look like they had been made properly and indeed one looked as though it had been sat on. This led us to believe that perhaps they had not been changed at all. Downstairs, the floors had not been swept, the owner repeatedly claimed they had been mopped that morning. Worse was to come in the downstairs toilet, there was a small hand towel that was filthy, this was the only towel provided in the cottage. The owner did offer to get more towels. The downstairs toilet had faeces on the underside of the toilet seat, this was the last straw. At no time did the owner offer to get someone in to clean the property. We refused to stay at the cottage and returned home, our holiday in ruins and a total wasted round trip of over 8 hours. The owner says he offered to have the property cleaned, this is untrue. DO NOT book this property.
