  • “We needed some quality time together and some r&r which is exactly what we had.”

Loved the location, the comfort, the size of the barn, the garden, the privacy.

Loved the location, the comfort, the size of the barn, the garden, the privacy. We didn’t have very kind weather so didn’t use the hot tub but it was great it was there. Barry and Sarah close by if we needed them but not at all intrusive. Loved the welcome tray on arrival. Wood burner was great and very easy to light.

The property

1½ miles from Moretonhampstead, a detached cottage converted from an ancient barn, with private hot tub and good views across fields to Dartmoor.

Next door to the friendly owners’ farmhouse and set high on hills overlooking the valley that stretches along this edge of Dartmoor.

It’s a smart, warm, efficient and peaceful place with south-west facing patio and mainly lawned, enclosed, private sunny garden (picnic table, barbecue).

Glazed door to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric oven/induction hob) with woodburner and TV/DVD; loo.

Upstairs (stairgate), two bedrooms under the eaves - a double (zip-linked 6' bed or twin) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and a twin (zip-linkable to 6' double, limited clothes-hanging space) with en suite shower-room (suite).

Local produce available from the owners.

Spring water.

A great base for walking or for simply enjoying the tranquillity. Moretonhampstead: friendly, busy, gateway-to-Dartmoor town (shops, good food pubs, church, outdoor swimming pool, good visitor centre); heath-topped hills around; good walks locally and reservoir/river fishing not far.

Two miles to one of the most beautiful parts of the moor; golf at Bovey Castle, 2 miles; popular Miniature Pony Centre, 2½.

Chagford, 5 miles; Exeter, 13; the sea at Torbay/Teignmouth, 19.
