Lovely cottage, well refurbished and a lovely big secure garden for dogs.

Only criticism I would say which for us was the garden was not very private from the neighbours.

A lovely warm spacious cottage with a large dog proof garden well equipped and we will definately book again.

We had a great holiday.

The cottage was lovely and very comfortable. The garden was large and the dogs had a great time running and playing but plenty of shade when it was hot. The owner David was brilliant, very helpful and accommodating - thank you for everything and a wonderful stay. We will return again!

The cottage is very spacious and has a very good relaxing energy, the surroundings are peaceful and quiet which matched our requirements.

Unfortunately the microwave had a good coating of old dried on spattered food, clearly not checked and rectified by the housekeeper. My wife and i were Unfortunately woken at 4am every morning from the noise of birds or rats within the ceiling cavity in the master bedroom, however the bed was very comfortable which offered good sleep up to the 4am deadline. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would consider it again for next year, unless of course we find a cottage to purchase first, as we have decided to sell and relocate to this most beautiful part of the world.

Warm and welcoming cottage.

Well equipped with everything you need. Location is very peaceful and the garden is just ideal for your four legged friends. Has some great local walks and beaches.

From the moment you step into the cottage you feel at home, the beds are some of the most comfortable i have slept in, the kitchen appliances are all high end and the garden is gorgeous.

We came here for my wife’s 50th birthday along with our three Beagles.

We also had family visit us for a couple of days to celebrate. We had a fantastic time despite the typical February weather! The cottage is idyllic and all our family thought so too. The garden is enclosed and very specious, clean and well kept. There is everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, and it’s clear to see that the owners are dog lovers like us. The bed upstairs was incredibly comfortable, and our family all said the same for their rooms. It was our first time in Cornwall, and it won’t be our last. We will definitely be staying here at this cottage in the future.

The property is 'tired' and needs a deep clean.

There were dog hairs on the floor and it smelt of wet dog. The washing machine drawer was disgusting and the drum had feathers in it. The dishwasher had food at the bottom and the filter was filthy. The fridge smelt and something had spilled on one of the shelves. The freezer compartment had an inch of ice and there were two bags of opened oven chips and stray peas in the drawer. The microwave was dirty with splattered food over the walls and something had spilled on the glass turntable. The oven was dirty too. Upstairs neither of the bathrooms had been cleaned and one of the toilets needed a scrub. And to top it all when I was cleaning up the garden after my own dogs I found a couple of 'extra deposits'. The previous occupants were the owners.......... Of course this spoilt my holiday and I have lost faith in Sykes. The owner, David, was very communicative prior to my arrival but when he found out that I was unhappy he made no further contact until Sykes asked him to call me. I have two dogs and was charged an extra £30 for each of them per week, which cost me £120. What is this charge for?? I expected the property to be pristine. Disappointed doesn't quite cover how I feel. P.S. The owner had the temerity to text me and offer 20% off any future bookings if booked with him rather than Sykes. I would like a decent refund for my recent stay and NO I won't be back.

The cottage was lovely and the property outside and inside as it was described or as could be seen in the pictures.

At first glance, everything looked well kept. However, of course, signs of wear and tear show up over the years, but these could be avoided to a large extent if the place were thoroughly cleaned once every two weeks. Black marks around taps or anywhere in the shower cubicle (in areas exposed to water in general) could be avoided. Sorry, the cottage was cleaner when we left than when we arrived. But the thing that really puzzles me is that I booked this cottage because it was advertised as “three dogs free of charge” (unfortunately, you can't attach pictures here). However, this is not the case when you book with Sykes Cottages, because DURING my holiday there, I received an email from Sykes stating that I had to pay an additional £90 for my three dogs (I don't know why, because I cleaned every day, but this seems to be another source of income that is easy to hide) ... (Of course, I also have the section of the advertisement that mentioned it – perhaps it has already been taken down from the website). I will certainly pay the additional £90, but I do not think it is right how customers are treated in this case. Otherwise, it must be said that the general information about the houses offered by Sykes was correct in our case. I would love to give a great review, but unfortunately my last experience prevents me from doing so. Nonetheless, the owner of the cottage seems to be a very nice person as well as the people helping to clean it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially our dog.

Maybe an improved selection of none stick pans might be helpful, however we did manage. The upstairs bathroom door appears to have warped so made it difficult to shut. These are very minor observations and we would definitely would book again if looking to holiday in the same area

Cottage was very comfortable, plenty of space for 6 adults and 3 dogs.

Garden was huge, dogs loved it, very peaceful and relaxing. However, heated towel rails did not need to be on during a heatwave, made the upstairs bedroom unbearable to sleep in as both bathrooms are upstairs with heated rails. Should be able to turn these off or down at least. Would recommend and even stay again.

Just spent a fabulous week at Salty Cottage, probably one of the best equipped cottages we’ve ever stayed.

The garden is huge and really secure- our two dogs loved it! The cottage itself was clean, bright and airy. I think it was the little things that made a difference, fans in the upstairs bedroom, milk and biscuits on arrival, more than one loo roll in each of the three bathrooms! The cottage itself was quite remote so definitely needed a car. Walking around the country lanes was not an option for us as we had a toddler and a 10 week old baby. It was a 20 minute drive into Bude but there was ample parking and lots to see and do there. It was a 90 minute drive to Padstow so we drove to Rock and got the ferry across. Salty Cottage was a lovely place to chill and relax and also gave us the opportunity to visit places in North Devon too. I would highly recommend Salty Cottage as a good base to explore East Cornwall and West Devon.

Lovely quiet location, not far from the village shop, tea rooms and pub, very near coastal path, great garden for our Black Lab.

Short drive into Bude or back into Devon.

We loved the location - very peaceful and quiet.

The cottage was lovely - beds and sitting room very comfortable and plenty of room for 6 people. Lots of outdoor seating too. The only things that prevented a 5 star review were: no smart tv so we couldn't stream anything and terrestrial telly is unwatchable these days. However we were very lucky with the weather so spent most time outdoors. Great selection of board games too. The kitchen is very small and not great if you really want to cook but fairly well equipped. Could do with a 4 slice toaster for the size of the house. I bought extra teaspoons and a milk jug and left them for future guests. Lots of china but not many serving bowls. Again - only a problem if you want to cook. Dishwasher tabs and toilet rolls in short supply so prepare to shop mid week for essentials. And I cut my finger trying to shut the poorly fitting shower room door, which also had a broken latch.

We had a fantastic week at Salty Cottage.

The cottage is so homely and the garden is beautiful. The beds are super comfortable and the local beaches were dog friendly and perfect for our furry family. We were lucky with the weather too. Already booked for next year. Can’t wait to go back x

Lovely well maintained property in a great location.

The enclosed garden is great for the dogs. Very pleasant surroundings and within easy access to some great walks and beaches.

April 2025 This was our second stay at Salty Cottage and it didn't dissapoint.

We had everything we needed to cater for the family, a party of four adults, two children and a small dog. The beds were very comfortable, plenty of towels and hot water and everything we needed in the kitchen. I am surprised by some of the recent feedback as we have not encountered any of the problems mentioned. We love the peaceful location while also having the local beaches and facilities of Bude only a short drive away. The owner of the property also contacted us in advance of our stay which we appreciated. The grandchildren are already asking us when we can go back to Salty Cottage, hopefully it wont be too long.

Parking very tight or two family sized cars.

Sitting room had an extreme strong smell of dogs that lasted the whole holiday, I think it was the large cream sofa and the central carpet. The garden fabulous for dogs. We enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Very dirty, grubby sofas, dirty rug , muddy paw prints on underside of quilt over, dusty dirty skirting boards.

Very peaceful location with great dog friendly garden, would definitely recommend this property. My only criticism is the top line Sykes description stating 3 bathrooms, a downstairs toilet is not a bathroom. Only one shower in the property is useable as the en-suite has no shower screen or shower head holder on the wall. We were told 3 cars were ok, this would have been difficult if the neighbouring cottage hadn’t allowed us to use one of their spaces. I don’t think the space available is suitable for 3 cars, unless 2 are small cars, unfortunately we had 2 estate cars. Would still recommend this lovely cottage.

Salty cottage was very comfortable and well equipped.

The location was perfect for walking parts of the coastal path, which is just a 30 minute walk away, and venturing further afield in the car. Very quiet location and a 30 minute walk to the lovely Rectory tea rooms in Morwenstow.

The setting is lovely and quiet in a beautiful spot.

Our dogs were made to feel very welcome and we found the beds very comfortable. However we found the bathrooms quite grubby. There was a lot of scum around all the taps and shower rails and the shower itself has a lot of black mold. Also the oven door wasn’t clean and none of the bathroom extractors worked. We also felt that for this level of price a smart tv should be included and, especially with Cornish weather, a washer dryer would have helped. Hopefully these can easily be sorted as, for four people, this is a lovely cottage.

Our stay at Salty Cottage was everything we hoped for. The cottage was a delight, warm, plenty of room, comfortable beds and everything we needed to cater for the family. The dogs were not forgotten and it was lovely to be able to let them into the garden without any worries. All three generations, aged from 4 to 70 agreed they would love to return and hope it won't be too long before we can visit again.

The cottage was very clean and just perfect for our week's stay.

For the dogs, importantly the garden was fully enclosed which made the time we spent at the cottage stress free as we didn't need to worry about one of them escaping. All of our needs were catered for and it felt like a home from home. The property was within walking distance of a pub (food was fantastic), tea rooms and the coast which was also very appealing We would definitely recommend.

WOW what a hidden gem.

Perfect perfect perfect. The minute we walked in we felt at home. The owners David and Sue kept in regular contact before and after the holiday. The garden is very secure and great for children and dogs. Loads of utensils, pans and crockery in the kitchen. Bedding immaculate. Dog walks from outside the cottage. Very quiet location. Beaches a short drive away. Dog tags left to use with David’s contact details on which was a nice touch. Good WIFi. Board games, CD,s and DVD’s all supplied although we took out Alexa device and Firestick. The log burner was just what we wanted. I want to go back in 2024 and take my parents but they are already very booked up and I understand why. If I win the lottery I will be making David and Sue an offer to purchase that they just cannot refuse. We came away very relaxed and left very reluctantly. A big thank you to David and Sue for allowing us to use their beautiful home.

The location was brilliant for our dogs as it was quiet with the big garden, the beds were comfy and the cottage had everything we needed.

Our boys loved the garden - made a great football pitch! Lovely comfy beds. We went to the local pub twice and the shop once - all the locals were friendly and welcoming. Only down point is that we found quite a few dog hairs and a slight smell of dogs. But overall a wonderful stay.

Amazing two week stay at this beautiful cottage.

It was close to all amenities, but still felt like you were in the beautiful countryside. We didn't want to leave. Will definitely be back next year.

The property was fantastic very clean, very well equipped, cosy and warm.

. Slightly bigger shower unit would be advantageous as it's very small but other than that it's great.

What a fabulous find Salty Cottage was for our holiday.

Perfectly situated close to the heart of the village and public footpaths for lots of on foot exploring across the countryside or coastline, and also only a short drive back to the main A39 when we wanted to get further afield. We found the cottage well equipped for all our needs and it was warm & welcoming on arrival. A fabulous lawn space for our friends doggie to explore and run around in with the added comfort of knowing he was safe and couldn't escape too! It really was a home from home holiday with the added bonus of us being treated to some Cornish April sunshine, win win! Having explored the area on foot and southwards down to Duckpool, and via car to Port Isaac, Tintagel Castle, the Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Nectans Glen & Boscastle, plus a trip over the border into Devon and Hartland Abbey we came home looking forward to finding another slot in our diary to be able to return, it may have been our first visit, but we certainly hope it wont be our last. Our only feedback is to others viewing this property, its larger than the photos look and you certainly wont be disappointed in the space it provides, we were more than comfortably accommodated as 4 adult and a pooch without feeling like we were all in the same space, and the 2 bathrooms plus downstairs loo also meant we never felt like anyone was hogging the bathroom! :) Thanks to the owners for such a lovely holiday cottage.

Lovely cottage, really well equipped, as a family who have allergies it's lovely to stay somewhere that has proper facilities for cooking meals as we can't eat out.

Really comfortable beds and the dog friendly garden was wonderful for the dogs who loved the beaches close by! Have already passed on details to friends and family!

A beautiful and homely cottage in a very quiet and picturesque area, ideal for exploring North Cornwall and Devon as well walking the Coastal Path.

The cottage had everything we needed and the log burner made our evenings very cosy. The enclosed garden was an added bonus and our three dogs loved exploring the large space. We had a lovely weeks stay and our only regret was it went too quickly. Would thoroughly recommend Salty Cottage.

Lovely cottage in quiet setting.

Comfortable and, when needed, very warm. Plenty of hot water. The en-suite room in particular we thought was a little luxury and with a great view. Owners were very responsive when the oven developed a problem - sorted within 24 hours. A minor disappointment was that prior occupants had felt it acceptable to leave dog poo on the grass. And such a large and green lawn too.

The cottage was just as described and provided a lovely home and garden for the week.

The garden is secure and spacious. The mainly ground floor accommodation was well set out and comfortable. The upstairs bedroom was beautiful. The area is scenic and there are many places to visit locally.

Utterly peaceful location and well equipped, clean house with large flat garden for the dogs.

This was a perfect cottage for our needs.

Everything was thought of by the owners. We had 3 dogs with us and food bowls and water bowls were supplied for their use. It is a stunning cottage in a great setting with a huge fenced garden for us to enjoy.

The cottage is in an excellent location for coastal walking, including walking to local tea rooms and the pub through the fields.

It is always lovely spending a few days not using the car. The garden was great, fully fenced in and our 2 Jack Russell's were able to roam around with no fear of escaping which they are very good at doing. The cottage had everything we wanted and were very comfortable. We shall be coming back here again, it had no faults as far as we were concerned.

Comfortable and warm (in October). Good facilities and very clean and tidy. 3 double bedrooms, the master with en suite very large with lovely views. Lots of good walks very close. Beaches also within easy reach, but check the tide times as there is no sand at high tide! Thoroughly recommend.

Salty cottage is a lovely quaint cottage situated on an country estate near Bude.

David and Sue were fabulous and very accommodating hosts and we are extremely grateful to them for helping us when we were faced with a challenging situation. The cottage itself was perfect for our family of 5 and our dog. The main bedroom is very large with its own bathroom ensuite. The other two bedrooms, a twin and a double are situated downstairs. There are two parking spaces and a very large enclosed garden, this was perfect for our dog who loves to play ball. The cottage has been thoughtfully equipped and tastefully decorated throughout. The coastal path is only a 15-20 minute walk away over fields, styles and a little brook which flows into the sea. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Salty Cottage and would definitely recommend it. Thanks again to David and Sue.

I did not stay the whole week I cut my holiday short because I could not work the heating, as I suffer with arthritis I was feeling the cold a little more.

but other than that a beautiful cottage and well kept.The beds are extremely comfortable better than my own bed to be precise..

A beautiful cottage which had been decorated with fairy lights and a Christmas tree, making us feel festive as soon as we arrived.

We had a very enjoyable and comfortable Christmas at Salty Cottage despite the awful weather.

The property details were very accurate, except it needs to state only one basket of logs is provided.

When weather is bad this is not eneough. ( not a complaint just a fact)

Excellent positioned cottage with great views and plenty to explore either on foot or by car.

Very warm and welcoming cottage providing a lovely home from home feeling. Parking was good for our 2 vehicles and the locals were very welcoming. The adventures walking to the nearest beach were just the right distance for a good morning or evening walk with the Dog before heading to out for the day to the amazing beaches slightly further afield (were talking less than 10 miles) to some amazingly clean and beautiful dog friendly beaches.

Another fabulous week at Salty Cottage.

We felt relaxed as soon as we crossed the threshold - a real home from home. We’ve never booked the same accommodation twice, but last year we were so happy at Salty Cottage, we knew we would return (and I’m sure we will again). Enjoyable beach days at Stanbury Mouth (a 30 minute walk across the fields opposite incorporating a couple of stiles), Sandymouth, Mawgan Porth and Porthcuthan; exhilarating walks; meals at the friendly local pub, the Bush; a delicious cream tea at the Rectory and visits to Port Isaac and Padstow. A perfect holiday.

We loved this cottage.

On arrival everything was in place, having been in touch with the owners as requested we knew about the entry etc. The directions for getting there were clear, the cottage is located through narrow Cornish lanes but we experienced no problem finding it. The cottage met our expectations in everyway. Dog friendly etc. The secure outside space was really appreciated both by our dog and the 3 children for football etc. The cottage is well equipped and we were pleased to have the recycling opportunity in place. The location is great for exploring North Cornwall and we came away feeling there was more to do. I think you do need a car to use, though perhaps we were guilty of not exploring the local facilities on foot or doing any walks from the cottage. We went to Hidden Valley, Lundy Island, (no dogs so had previously booked our dog into a local kennel for 2 nights), Sandymouth beach, Cotehele, National Trust and spent quite a bit of time relaxing in the cottage. All good, only annoyance was the very enthusiastic gardner from the main property who enjoyed non stop[ grass cutting and using a leaf blower every time the sun came out.

It went on hour after our to the point where we were praying for rain :-)

However, not ideally situated for walking to the coast; a little remote. The lounge area had a doggy smell which was a bit unpleasant.

Lovely cottage as good base for North Cornwall & Devon as we found. Owners very accommodating.

The cottage would benefit from a tumble dryer and perhaps some brighter lighting, bit too dim to easily read in the evening/night.

Otherwise really pleased and would/will be going back in the future. But: The road sign at the driveway entrance indicates the "Manor's cottages" are down the driveway but not Salty or the other cottages, none of which are visible from the road. Would be very handy if this cottage was written on the road sign, or you were told what the road sign actually said. We know the area very well, but, still missed the entrance because the sign at the driveway is only readable/visible when driving south/west (towards GCHQ site) and we were driving north/east (from GHQC site) and there is nothing to read from that direction. Perhaps the provided driving instructions could cover both directions of approach and indicate what the driveway sign actually reads ... if following the provided directions you miss the driveway because Salty cottage is not on the road sign and end up descending towards Duck Pool ... well this is rural Cornwall and turning around cannot be done for a fair distance :-)

We had an amazing break away at Salty Cottage.

We booked to stay over Christmas and what a lovely touch to see the cottage so tastefully decorated for Christmas, along with a super greeting of a bottle of bubbly, a box of luxury crackers and chocolates! Thank you! The cottage was dog friendly and there were dog towels, bowels, snacks and food - so everyone was catered for! Very well equipped and beautiful area that made it easy to explore surrounding areas. This whole experience has been smooth and easy to book and we will certainly look to book with Helpful Holidays again. Thank you for helping us to have such a great stay away! Len Walker

Beautiful cottage exceptionally pretty part of the world.

I only experienced 2 problems and these are specific to me 1. The parking space was not big enough for our 2 cars to park end to end - fortunately the lady in the cottage next door was leaving and she allowed us to park in one of her spaces. 2. I have an unusually agile puppy, whom was able to clear the fence into the field of sheep next door by launching herself off the pile of grass cuttings! She would have enjoyed her holiday more if she had been able to play in the garden. We enjoyed our stay in the cottage.

It is a beautiful cottage with all amenities.

I would just like to say that in my opinion, the cottage is quite difficult for a disabled person in view if the steep step into the kitchen area. However I would hesitate to criticise because everything else was so good.

We had a wonderful time at Salty Cottage - it’s the first dog friendly cottage we have stayed in during the past 20 years of holidaying with our dogs that has been clean and comfortable.

The owners had provided every facility you could possibly need and the huge lawned garden was a highlight for our dogs. The area is stunning and so many attractions and beaches are dog friendly that us and our three labradors had an amazing time. We will definitely be returning to Salty Cottage and North Cornwall as soon as we can and will be recommending it to all our dog owning friends!

Lovely relaxing cottage.

Great location, quiet and peaceful. Slept well, enjoyed the close proximity to north Devon and further south in Cornwall. Absolutely love the area. Facilities of the cottage were excellent, and we enjoyed the wildlife in the garden. All in all we had a brilliant holiday and would love to return to this cottage with its fine facilities.

The whole experience was excellent,the cottage was superb and as described.

My wife and I stayed at the cottage with our daughter,our son in law and 2 grandsons.The boys loved the garden and would recommend anyone to stay at the cottage,all the amenities were as described.
