    “Setting & location perfect.”

Very enjoyable visit Directions could be a little better as we didn't really understand where the left fork was going to be and it feels like you may be going up a lane you might get stuck in. I would clarify that left fork is at a junction where straight ahead is signed dead end and that the lane opens up at the cottages Can you make it clear that there are no toiletries, the only soap in the cottage was hand soap that had been watered down The Washing up bowl is strange and leaks The ...

I would clarify that left fork is at a junction where straight ahead is signed dead end and that the lane opens up at the cottages Can you make it clear that there are no toiletries, the only soap in the cottage was hand soap that had been watered down The Washing up bowl is strange and leaks The switches in the airing cupboard are confusing, labels would be great The Immersion hesater could do with proper insulation Recycling info needs updating The shower is a bit confusing and has a display that is a bit wonky and buttons we didn't understand A Dining table light would be useful Not big grumbles but room for improvement Thanks

The property

In the beautiful, peaceful wooded valley of Hawkcombe, ½ mile from the centre of Porlock, a neat mid-terrace cottage, tenderly refurbished.

To the front, a small enclosed garden (picnic bench) reached via a footbridge and 3 steps over a small babbling stream.

Small step up to stable doors into open-plan living/dining/kitchen (microwave, fridge, electric oven/induction hob) with small woodburner, TV/DVD and folding table/chairs for dining.

Narrow wrought iron spiral stairs up to two bedrooms - a double, and a single (footboard; limited clothes-hanging space).

Bathroom (suite, shower).

A wonderful bijou bolt hole for walkers or anyone looking to explore this beautiful part of Exmoor. Porlock: large village (shops, restaurants, pubs) between Exmoor and the sea, at the foot of the marvellous Vale of Porlock.

The sea (pebble beach) is a mile away across fields or travel by car to Porlock Weir (harbour, pub, pebble beach); sand at Minehead (small resort, good golf, Butlins), 6 miles.

Excellent base for Exmoor, popular with riders (stables).

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

PORLOCK

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
