Swallow Cottage

This was our second visit to widmouth cottages and the cottage was lovely and clean and very comfortable it had everything you need for our stay it is a very peaceful place to rewind our dog Harley loves the walk up the hill to see the alpacas and the view of the sea is amazing and having a private beach is brilliant as my dog can run free and he loves water and climbing rocks the owners are very friendly and helpful.

I have only given 1 star less as minor faults The place was very clean but let down on the either dirty or rust in the microwave.

Plus the baking trays were old and very greasy not nice to handle. The other downside is the small double bed such a shame as they could have easily put a normal size double in by taking out one of the bedside tables. The lounge is very cramped again taking out the coffee table would rectify this. For someone who uses a stick would find it even a bigger challenge. If the owners took the trouble to stay in it for one night they would see the problems. Despite everything we enjoyed our stay.

The cottage is in a lovely spot great for dogs and great walks.

On the first night we had no heat or hot water. We could not contact anyone due to poor signals while i appreciate there is nothing can be done about that . I had my son from Coventry phone he left a message which was not followed up ! My partner sent a email which was not replied too either. It was fixed in the morning but another cottage had the same issues. The maintenance man told me some one would be round but couldn’t tell me a time so all day we didn’t know when we could shower.

Swallows is a great small cottage and had everything you need in summer, it would be too small in winter as you can’t sit outside.

Linen and equipment good quality. We enjoyed are stay. It would be better to list as a two person and small dog and consider removing coffee table to give more space. Dog field a great positive but unfortunately steep access to rocky beach prevents access if you have mobility issues, as does the large gravel laid around cottages, which could be listed to help potential visitors.

This is our second stay at Widmouth Farm.

Our first time was in Wren which was bigger. I didn’t read the listing for Swallow properly and therefore misunderstood the term ‘small double’ to mean the rom was small and not the bed. The bed is tiny! Therefore I barely slept as if I tried to turn over I fell out of bed, same for my husband! If the other room has been a twin like the larger cottages this would be fine as we’d move in there and our son could have the double. So this is my warning - read the listing!! The downstairs also felt too small for two adults, a tween and a goldie. We are lucky our tween doesn’t want to hang out with us and spent the time in the cottage in his room! Still, this is a lovely location and the private beach is worth it. Had it to ourselves a couple of times, the rest of the time just one other family there.

Had a lovely week in Swallow cottage.

It had everything we needed, and we didn't feel the small double bed was an issue. There was still plenty of space in the rooms to unpack and get dressed. The playground, animals and beach were great to have on the doorstep, and our 4-year old son enjoyed using them daily.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Swallow cottage, we felt very welcome from the start, such a beautiful & tranquil place.

The cottage itself was homely and well equipped, comfy beds and quality bed linen made for the perfect night's sleep after a day exploring. The private beach was a lovely bonus too. We very much look forward to returning in the future. Many thanks Mark Caroline & Chloe.

We really enjoyed our stay at Swallow Cottage and would have given a higher score had the cottage been a little bigger.

We slept separately, as the 4 foot bed was just too small. Both the single and small bed double bed were comfortable if sleeping alone. The living area was small and it was difficult to access the fridge and oven without moving the arm chair out of the way. You could store 1 pint milk cartons in the fridge but anything larger needed to be stored on its side, leaving little room for other food. The setting was absolutely gorgeous and very peaceful. The flower pots in the shared areas were gorgeous! I loved seeing the chickens and Alpacas! We found several dog friendly beaches nearby and lovely places to eat! We hope to go back but would probably book a larger cottage next time. I have provided feedback to the owners, which I hope is helpful and was not meant as a criticism.

Lovely little cottage, shame the pictures told a different story.

The "double" bed NOT. We had to sleep separately.It was also too hilly to walk and leaving farm by car was just fields. The private beach !!! not on doorstep. Pebbled garden enclosure. Certainly not for the people with any disabilities.

We absolutely loved our stay at Swallow Cottage.

Access to the private beach and the surrounding fields was perfect for us. Easy walk to a cute little harbour with a cafe near the castle. Short drive to Ilfracombe and Woolacombe which was perfect for us with our dog and me being pregnant, means we didn’t have to walk along the steep coastal path. Our toilet was blocked when we first got there but as we arrived on a Sunday it was difficult to get hold of someone. This was sorted the next day when we saw someone in person and as soon as we mentioned it, it was sorted straight away and worked with no problem for the rest of the stay. We would definitely recommend staying here and have already passed the details on to family and friends. All in all a perfect break!

Downstairs very small - personally I think it would be far too cramped for 3 adults and a dog!

For instance you had to move a chair to open the fridge or the oven door. We didn't like the bathroom leading straight off the living room/kitchen. The 'double' bed was more like a 4ft so a couple wouldn't be very comfortable. However, the cottage itself was beautiful with amazing decor. We loved the dog field and the private beach. Also the added benefit of a 2nd car parking space was a huge bonus as my sister joined me from a different part of the country and a car share wasn't an option. If I stayed again I would choose one of the larger cottages on the complex.

Had a lovely time at Swallow Cottage it had everything you could want, even a towel and treats for our dog.

I was very impressed that there was even a hairdryer. Plenty of walks for our dog and very handy to have the beach so close. It was very much home from home.

We loved swallow cottage, very cosy, lovely furnishings.

The bed in the main bedroom was on the small side but otherwise very comfortable and clean. We loved the fresh farm eggs and the dog treats! The location sold it for us as soon as we approached the property from the main road, that view!! Also a lovely stretch of the coastal path to walk in both directions which we thoroughly enjoyed along with our dog in the sunshine and the snow!! And ofcourse not forgetting the farm animals- we loved the alpacas.

Fabulous accomadation & location with nearby zoo and castle/ adventure park, coastal walks and its own fabulous private beach cove.

Cottage was clean well presented with no signs previous doggie guests. Super quiet with no farm noises or smells just some friendly field animals to feed. Only cautious comment is that the 'double' bed is super small and unless you are skinny winnys you will struggle.

Gorgeous cottage, beautiful place and amazing private beach. We stayed in Swallow Cottage for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautifully kept surroundings, with a good playpark and very friendly alpacas that you can feed. The cottage kitchen was well equipped, new spacious bathroom and comfy beds. The utility room included washing machines and a tumble dryer all for a small cost. There was a lovely fenced front garden with table and chairs. Parking was close to the cottage that was just outside Ilfracombe itself. Would recommend and will definitely return. Loved our stay.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at Swallow Cottage.

Widmouth Farm has it all. From the approach down the drive to the parking area then onto the cottage everything was very well presented. The cottage was immaculate with no issues to report. The beds were comfortable and the outside area a bonus on a warm evening. The cottage is well equipped with everything you will need for an enjoyable stay. The dog exercise area was well looked after as was the rest of the farm. When I say farm it should really read ‘“Estate” as this is one very clean farm. The animals are all friendly and very relaxed around people and dogs. The beach is a wonderful place to spend time if you want to relax with the only noise being the waves. We were pleased to have sat where the Enid Blyton film Five on a Treasure island adaptation had been filmed in 1995. You can walk to Ilfracombe along the coastal path which takes around 2 hours at a slow pace. A great location with wonderful cottage to use as a base for exploring the area.

I’ve just got back from a few days away at Widmouth Farm Cottages and can truthfully say this is one of the nicest, cleanest and most peaceful places I’ve ever stayed.

The cottages are all laid out within a large courtyard area, with picnic benches and private gardens. I booked Robin but was very kindly upgraded to Swallow and when I walked in, I was not disappointed. First impression was that it was beautifully decorated with modern furniture and soft furnishings. It was spotlessly clean from top to bottom and very welcoming. The kitchen area is very well stocked and the bathroom is well appointed with a nice big walk in shower. The bedrooms were again spotlessly clean with crisp, fresh sheets and lovely soft furnishings, throws and cushions. Walking out of the cottage into my own front garden with furniture, out into the larger courtyard towards the animal enclosure, I didn’t see much of them while I was here, but I took a walk down the field, on the mowed path to the private beach. It’s quite steep and a little rocky but that’s the Devon coast for you. The beach is lovely and quiet and I could see Watermouth bay from where I stood on the shore. I have nothing negative or neutral to say about this place, it’s all positive. Turning right out of the cottages and a couple of miles later, you come across Hele Bay, which is a lovely little inlet cove. I had a pasty and coffee at the cafe there and found a comfy place to soak up the sun and read. I spent several days at Woolacombe, and visited my favourite food outlet, S&P Fish Shop in Ilfracombe harbour, where I bought a delicious crab sandwich, which I took to Woolacombe and sat on the beach watching the tide come in. Widmouth Farm is beautifully kept outside too, grass neatly mowed, planters full and the courtyards all swept and clean. The helpful utility room gives you washing machine and dryer, and there’s also a basket full of bagged animal feed, at 40p/bag and there’s an honesty box next to it to pay for these. There’s also a boot wash area for ramblers. Just lovely. Thank you, Bethany and family for this wonderful and peaceful little haven. I very much hope to return!

Hi we did not stay in the Swallow cottage the owners up graded free of charge to the Heron cottage The cottage was brilliant everything you needed was there the beds linen and trowels excellent The areas around the cottages very tidy and the animals are grandson loved to feed them All round a great break Thank youn

Lovely cosy cottage, cottage and grounds clean and well maintained, great to have access to an enclosed dog exercise area and the private beach and costal path.

Nice to be able to feed the goats, sheep and alpacas. Would definitely stay again if in North Devon

Very much enjoyed my week at Widmouth Farm.

I stayed in Swallow Cottage which was very clean and comfortable. It is a great location from which to explore the north Devon coastline and Exmoor.

We had an excellent break in a fantastic place which really recharged my batteries!

! I came home feeling refreshed, particularly as I was able to swim most days in the sea at your private beach, how brilliant. I would recommend your property to all my friends. Thank you. Alison Dahill

Delightful cottage in the best location - dog friendly and the property owners lovely and welcoming.

The private beach was absolutely amazing and made this an extra special stay. We can't wait to come back next year and will be looking at dates shortly! The location has everything you could possibly want and was peaceful and stunning.

We loved the cottage and the surrounding area.

The private beach was amazing and we loved swimming there. We were close to other beautiful beaches and it was fun driving and finding new places to walk and swim.

A lovely little cottage in a wonderful setting.

Clean with all the facilities you’d expect. My son loved the play area, animals and beach. The only thing I’d say is that I’d rather forego the bedside tables and have a king size bed.

Widmouth farm cottages are set in the most beautiful location.

We couldn’t of found a better place to relax and enjoy the whole visit. Beth the manager was great, we fed the animals with her and fresh eggs were brought to the cottage. We will definitely be re booking.

I would love to say it was horrid just so I could easily re-book in future.

The place was ideal especially with a 8 month pup. The owners/managers were great people, friendly and attentive. If you are looking for a nice setting with lovely walks and close by towns to drive to I would highly recommend Widmouth Farm Cottages

My husband had to sleep in single bed as the double bed was only a 3/4 … no signal on our phones which was a real pain.

So no internet. No leaflets left in the cottage for things to do.

Beautiful, clean holiday cottage in an absolutely stunning location.

Being on a farm AND having a private beach meant that this was just perfect for children and dogs!

The cottage was very cute and well kitted out.

The main bed was very small and soft which made it difficult for two full sized people to sleep in however there was a spare bedroom. The grounds were beautiful, it was really good fun feeding the goats and Alpacas on the farm. Great location for walking the South West Coastal path as the entrance to the path is just across the field. Beautiful views from the farm and lovely little courtyard and private beach. The owners were extremely helpful, and friendly.

Brilliant dog friendly pubs with food everywhere. Despite awful weather we had a brilliant holiday.

We loved the location and the animals on the farm.

The upstairs of the cottage was beautiful. The kitchen/lounge area was small but adequate for 2 people. It could do with a bathroom refurbishment but other cottages on site were going through updates whilst we were there so hopefully Swallow Cottage will too.

Wonderful hosts, beautiful location and very dog friendly

Great location between Combe Martin and Ilfracombe, the cottage we stayed in ( Swallow ) is in need of some TLC, but there are plans to update all the cottages.

The animals on the farm have free range and you get to meet the goats, geese, chickens and alpacas, especially at 9am every morning when you get the chance to feed them. Really well organised establishment, very clean and the private beach is an added bonus. We needed some extra plates and bowls, but the owners responded very quickly to our request. Highly recommend and we will return as soon as we can

The cottage was lovely, it was clean and reasonably well equipped.

It’s location was beautiful and the private beach a real asset. The bed in the double room was not a standard double - it was smaller. Although very comfortable not ideal. The sofa was very uncomfortable and would put us off returning to this cottage.
